Papalo Taqueria — Restaurant in Houston

I come here regularly. I've had the zanahoria taco, puerco en salsa verde taco, chicharron taco, tepache chicken rice bowl, and the Papalo salad. All are delicious.

My go to's are the tacos, with my favorites being the zanahoria, and both pork tacos. The zanahoria taco consists of roasted carrots topped with dressed greens, queso fresco, and toasted pumpkin seeds. Their chicharron is made from roasted pork belly. It has crispy skin and plenty of meat. Something that sets them apart from other places that serve tacos is that they nixtamalize the corn for their tortillas....

We went to try the carrot taco but didn’t realize they don’t start serving that until 11am. So we opted for breakfast menu. They were entirely sold out. Seriously? Finn Hall wasn’t even hopping. So okay - we go get coffee and wait an hour till 11:00. I kid you not we were the I to people in line at 10:55 and at 11:00 - guess what. “Sold out” of carrot tacos. WTH? We tried the pork belly - it was delicious. But the tepache chicken was dry, and no flavor. Covered in cabbage and spinach. Nothing special. How is this...

The menu has been updated if you haven’t noticed :D Had 3 tacos 2 of Tepache Chicken Tepache actually comes from Pineapple 🍍 when it’s fermented so this definitely gave the chicken such an absolute great taste! It most definitely was the highlight of my tacos! I also had the brisket but the chicken was even nicer! & I never say such a thing 😆 Customer service was great they answered all my questions! To top it off I had the Pineapple Agave drink which was also very tasty! Bonus: Tortillas are homemade...
