Updated 11/10/24 Still AWESOME. Not for everyone, especially the McDonald's gourmands and Taco Bellians. Clean, delicate, well prepared food. Again, not for everyone. Update 7/23/23: Still OMG AWESOME. Tried the bread pudding. Best I have ever had. THE BEST. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Update 5/21/23: STILL the best breakfast spot in Houston. Everything spot-on Excellent. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Original Review: Our new favorite breakfast place. First time here based upon high recommendations from multiple friends. The French House lives up to its stellar name and reputation. This place is THE REAL DEAL. Incredible breakfasts. INCREDIBLE. Everything spot-on excellent: Waffles: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ French Style Omelette: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Eggs, Sunnyside Up: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Biscuits: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Hash browns: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Bacon: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Coffee: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Cleanliness and ambiance: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Owner & staff: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The breakfasts are simple but elegant. Flavors incredible. Would rank this as one of the BEST breakfasts ANYWHERE. Look forward to exploring the rest of the breakfast menu and their sandwiches, which get accolades from those in the know who just want great food without all the flashing lights and self promoting hoopla. If your ego requires a hip, trendy, razzle-dazzle, cutesie menu that holds up and stands the test of time like a 1980's "Flock of Seagulls" haircut, this is not the place for you. Summary: Understated elegance and culinary finesse. Pristine/Clean. Genuine. Honest. High quality food. It's about the food here, not the photo op. The French House is genuine and excellent. They know who they are and they are not trying to be something they are not. Rock solid. Real deal. All about the food. Sure, it looks simple but the cook on the food and the flavors separate The French House from other breakfast restaurants including old school diner fare, like Avalon as well as trendy spots like Snooze. Simply excellent. NOTEWORTHY: 1. Omelettes are French styled omelettes. More refined, more flavorful than traditional American omelettes that are filled with ingredients. MOST ENJOYABLE. A real treat. 2. Biscuits are the best we've had in Houston, EVER. Not 2nd best. THE BEST. 3. YUM to the tenth power times seven divided by one. 4. The people are awesome. Owner and his staff are super nice. Customers also friendly and acknowledge one another. Kind of like University days. Actually saw and visited with people we knew on our first visit. Enjoy!

Firstly, the egg salad sandwich was delicious. The bread was fresh and toasted to perfection, and the egg salad filling was flavorful and satisfying. The fresh crisp lettuce and tomato was piled high giving the sandwich that extra crunch. My cup of cold cucumber soup was a refreshing and light addition to the meal. The soup was chilled, with a refreshing flavor that complemented the egg salad sandwich well. It was the perfect choice for a warm sunny day and left me feeling rejuvenated and satisfied. The service is also outstanding, as the owners are there running it all. They provide wide array of menu options, which includes both lunch and dinner. They open at 9am and close at 2:00 pm. Overall, I would highly recommend The French Cafe, especially if you're looking for a cozy and welcoming atmosphere with excellent service and delicious food. Their sandwiches and cold cucumber soup are two options that I would definitely recommend trying.

I see a lot of folks like this place, but it's a ok place to me. I consider it a expensive knock off of La Madeleine. The inside looks more like a diner than a French cafe. The display near the register had some deserts that I may try in my next visit. The menu is simple and direct. I did see some sandwiches and soups that folks were getting and they looked good. Unlike La Madeleine, you have to place your order and pick it up from the counter in most cases. The presentation gets a B. The monogram plates was a nice touch. My omelette was not runny with a little fluff and that's a plus. The waffle was perfectly cooked, golden brown and the syrup and berries with whipped cream brought the right balance of sweet and savory. This is a spot you would go to as an alternative to your weekend breakfast spot. Not every weekend, but if your regular spot is crammed with folks then this could be your "one in the pocket".
