Where do I start?! I can't share enough with everyone how upset I was with the outcome of the cake. I contacted MANY bakeries in Houston regarding creating a special anniversary cake for our conference's 100th anniversary. It was for our shining star reception at the Marriott Marquis Houston and I had many communications with the owner - Richard Jucker - regarding the concept (provided a picture of my inspiration cake) and he reassured me countless times that he could easily create the cake. He immediately put me at ease. There were red flags prior to the event - a lack of follow-up after my many inquiries regarding the pictures for the cake being received, etc. - but I still felt that I would receive what I paid for. It was confirmed that the cake would be delivered by 3:30 pm. I repeat - 3:30 pm. My reception was 6 - 7pm. The cake didn't get to my event until 6:45 pm. I didn't receive any phone calls or was notified that the cake would be arriving late; no heads up, nada ... zilch communication. I contacted the bakery multiple times as to the cake's whereabouts and eventually spoke to the owner (they gave me his cell #) - who was apologetic .... however by that time, I was extremely upset, disappointed and frustrated. Unbeknownst to me, he quietly arrived with the cake and immediately left ... at 6:45 pm. As I mentioned before, my event ended at 7 pm. The cake was also supposed to serve as a showpiece/photo-op for conference attendees. I've attached the style and design for what I wanted for our conference’s 100th anniversary cake VS what I actually got .... I'm still speechless as to what showed up at reception and I still have no words. What was supposed to be a celebratory and joyous event, ended up being filled with complete and utter disappointment - from the lack of professionalism and communication towards the end ..... to the actual CAKE ... which looked rushed and sloppy.

UPDATE...Thank you to the Owner for your apology. I want to clarify there was no damage to the cake. The detail of the original photo provided was not followed exactly as I asked. Please look at the feet of the boy on the cake your designed and the picture I provided. You will see the boy has no shoes. The other issue was my baby shower was at 12 noon. Pick was at 10:30 and I did not received my cake until almost 11:15am and there was no notice or call of this discrepancy to make other adjustments. Placing the order was very easy. Staff was patient and very helpful when deciding on all of the details. I was given very strict instructions that because I was picking up on a Sunday, May 5th, I only had a very short 30 mins window to pick up the cake. I arrived on time, 30 mins before the bakery was closing only to find out my cake was not complete. They were backed up and there was only 1 person in the store filling the booked orders that day. We where told it would only take a few minutes but instead took over a half hour. I wished someone would have contacted me prior so that I could have made another arrangements but there was no call and the only compensation was some cookies and water. This was not adequate based on the price I paid for this cake. I want to add that the cake tasted very good but fell apart because the outside was not given enough time to set. In the end the cake was nice but not complete based on the photo provided. Note I did ask to substitute the crowns for flowers. But you can see the boy shoes was not done. The cake was very important part of my shower, I was so excited but was very disappointed at the turn of events.

So, I ordered a cake for my daughter’s bday from The Village Bakery for a marble cake w Oreo filling. The guy even said, “we can do a much better job” than the pic I sent him. And not just he case. The fondant was on cardboard! Couldn’t even do candles bc the cardboard. Anyhow, Called them at 10am asking what time for pickup the day of. They said they were a bit behind and if 4pm was ok. That was fine as guests weren’t showing until 6pm. Did it 3 weeks in advance. The DAY OF at 2pm, they called and said they didn’t have the marble cake, nor Oreo filling. Why didn’t they mention when I’d called earlier? My daughter was devastated! They, also, didn’t have the cake ready until almost 6pm. We had dinner reservations at 6:30! I pulled their reviews via Google and this is VERY common for them. They actually refused any form of refund. I only asked for a small portion. Just a HORRIBLE experience. If you need reliability, this isn’t who you want to go with. And the cake was average, at best. But to boot. I posted in my neighborhood group and the wife got wind and started harassing me w comments on my post being insanely rude comments. Some are 2am. I think she was inebriated. Just poor customer service. I have very high expectations bc I usually love supporting small local businesses.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have a good experience with this bakery. I got a phone call 3/16 at 1:14 stating that my cake wouldn’t be ready the day of the party until 4 o’clock when I was originally told 3. I said that would be fine, however, I’d have to send someone else to come and pick it up since I would be setting up for a birthday party set to start at 5pm. I asked for $10-20 off the cake (which I thought was reasonable) so I could give the person picking up the cake gas money. The guy that initially called me said he would ask the manager and would give me a call back. After not getting a returned call, I called the bakery at 2:25 and was then told by another baker “sorry but the manager said no”. I asked to speak to the manager and he immediately gets on the phone and says “we’ll issue you a refund” and hangs up on me. I then called back and told the manager how unprofessional it was to hang up on me. He proceeds to scream in the phone saying how I came into his bakery last minute/the week of wanting a cake and how his other customers order their cake weeks in advance. He continues to scream through the phone not letting me get one word in. After spewing out his frustrations with me, he then says “we’ll have your cake ready at 3 and hangs up on me for a second time”. Utter disbelief is an understatement.

I then stopped what I was doing and arrived to the the bakery to pick up the cake at 3:01 and I hear the manger say “tell her 10 more minutes”… I didn’t get the cake until 3:29 and sadly it wasn’t presented with an apology, no money off, and no greeting or acknowledgment from the manager. The few bakers that I encountered at the front were all really nice so my displeasure is only towards the manager and has nothing to do with the actual cake.

I went to Village Bakery on Wednesday March 13th and asked for a custom cake for Saturday March 16 which the bakery agreed to fulfill my order so if the manager was overwhelmed with orders and/or if it would be too last minute then that should’ve been conveyed to me. I would’ve accepted that and tried to find another bakery, simple. However, it was not, my order and deposit was gladly accepted. Don’t add more onto your plate and get mad at the customer for wanting you to adhere to the original time provided. I do understand time may have become out of sight while working, therefore, the tardiness could’ve been offset had the manger met me with grace, calmness, and understanding of my request.

Planning surprise parties can be very stressful and this absolutely added more stress and frustration. I paid close to $300 for the cake which included it being ready for Saturday so to be hung up on twice was unprofessional, distasteful, and absolutely absurd. I unfortunately, would never come back or recommend this bakery and I’m sure the owner could care less what I think since customer service was not on his agenda.

If it wasnt for this being the day of a surprise party, I wouldn’t have called back after being hung up the first time and I certainly wouldn’t have accepted the cake.

If you want to avoid a headache and unprofessionalism save yourself the trouble and try Bianca’s Custom Cakes on Caplin St or Sweetland Cakery on...

STOP! STEALING PEOPLES MONEY RICHARD! IT IS NOT A GOOD LOOK, ESPECIALLY ON A MAN. You make small business owners look bad. THESE PEOPLE ARE STRAIGHT UP THEIVES! My aunt order a cake, cupcakes, cake pops, and cookies from these people. I was obvious they rush through her order. They even had to nerve to post pictures on their Facebook page like they did a good job. TRUST ME, it is all an illusion. Richard Jucker the grandson of one the THREE BROTHER OF Three Brother's Bakery. With is actions, unprofessionalism, and lack of customer, he made his family's legacy look EXTREMELY bad. Richard is an untalented conartist who rushes through his work, and does not take to time to care whether or not they ruin peoples events. My aunt is having to sue him in order to cover her damages because this "see you next Tuesday" does not stand behind his work. The fondant was not set on any of the products, and he fail to inform my aunt of this. The cake was falling apart because the fondant was not set. The cookies were so horrible the kids would not even eat them. You could not even bite them because they were hard as bricks. The cup cakes were so dry they would choke a mule. Some lady brought the cake pops to the party. The cake pops were completely messed up, and she was crying trying to explain. The eyes were off and the were dirty. Then he tried to blame my aunt like it was her fault. Further, Richard called my aunt upset about her review. Then he sent an email to my aunt after she requested her money blaming her, the customer, and lie in the middle off all of it. Richard never post the compliants about his work on his Facebook page, and get upset when other post the truth about his work to warning other customers of what could happen. We have to stop people like him. After The Village Bakery get your money you will be at a loss because they will blame you for their short comings. Ricard will say, you took the product, but he does not tell you something is wrong with it either. He's a straight up theif. DON'T BECOME A VICTIM! please excuse any typos, I'm so upset this happen to my aunt, and even more so upset that the company does not want to...
