I'd like to thank Baraboo Supper Club for an amazing experience. I had a party of two. We had cheese curds, Caesar Salad (hers), Clam Chowder (mine), 8oz Filet Oscar Style (we both love steak and seafood), Creme Brulee (hers), Grasshopper ice cream shake (mine) and an espresso Martini (shared).
The cheese curd appetizer set a pretty high bar right from the start. My clam chowder was perfect temp and flavorful. To all appearances the Caesar was quite satisfactory on her side. The Filet Oscar Style was cooked perfect to my medium rare request, as was hers. The flavor was top notch and nearly melt in the mouth. I'm not sure I would have needed a steak knife if I didn't have it. I had the asparagus on the side, and the attention to detail was great. The Creme Brulee had perfect crust and a warm silky texture that was spot on. My shake was ice cream with alcohol in it - I'm a pretty simple guy and it was amazing. The espresso martini surprised both of us, it was strong, and the espresso taste was more pronounced than expected.
I've read some other reviews about seating and service and atmosphere. I'd like to take a minute to provide my perspective - I'm from Wisconsin, and I'm aware of the "supper club" vibe from my younger days. Supper clubs, in my observation were intended to be a close quarters affair. To be sat next to another couple or family is exactly the way it would have happened in the hey-day. I wouldn't take points off for being sat next to another table that became occupied (and we were on this occasion). The restaurant is in the Renegade Hotel on Grove street in Boise. It faces a newly remodeled and revitalized street in the heart of Boise. I paid close attention to the view from the restaurant to the street and I think their seating layout accurately reflects an authentic experience. The waitstaff was extremely attentive and looking sharp in appearance. One of my favorite things about the night, besides my gorgeous date, was the ambiance as the night went on. Our reservations were for 6pm and it was overcast when we arrived, by the time we left near 8pm the restaurant lighting was perfectly mood-setting and the jazz was fitting of the intimate environment.
Short story long - we loved it, and we...
Read moreLast night we ate at Baraboo for the 2nd time. I will begin with the great and end with the bad / my feedback.
The server we had, Noor - I believe was his name, was wonderful. Such a sweet, attentive & charming young man. He is very knowledgeable on the menu & it’s ingredients.
We had some vegetable sides for appetizers since the options on appetizers are non existent for myself with a gluten allergy.
We both then had the French onion soup which was a 4/5. Tasty and perfectly hot.
I ordered the sirloin steak & my husband ordered the crispy salmon. His was perfectly cooked. Although, I can tell they buy farmed not wild salmon which is a shame, especially for the price. You can tell when dye is added in farmed salmon by the fisheries via their food. The potatoes that came with the salmon were cooked fine, but beyond bland. Some butter, fried garlic, lemon zest or some herbs would go a long way to improve this dish.
Unfortunately, the worst - my steak was totally charred & over cooked to a brittle dry lump. I ordered it medium & it was the most over cooked & dry / ruined steak I’ve ever had at a restaurant sadly. I should have said something to our server but at the time I didn’t want to wait another 20 minutes or so for my meal. I only ate less than a quarter of it. It was not even chewable.
The side (brussel sprouts) with the steak were also completely bland & tasteless.
A disappointing 2nd (and maybe last?) date night meal out. The first time we went we had the chicken & the lamb ribs both which were tasty. But, again the sides were super bland & tasteless. Herbs needed! Garlic!...
Read moreThis was our second time at Baraboo Supper Club in downtown Boise, and it lived up to the hype we built for our friends who were first-timers. We arrived a bit early and were thrilled to be seated right away in one of their spacious, oversized booths, perfect for our group of four. We kicked things off with cocktails, all of which were well-made and delicious. I love that you can order wine by the glass in either a 6oz or 9oz pour, giving you flexibility to suit your drinkin' mood. For appetizers, we shared the baked bread and calamari, both of which were outstanding and were a great start. All four of us opted for steaks, though the menu had plenty of tempting options. Three of us chose filets, and I went with the port wine sauce (worth the extra cost!). My meal was rounded out with a fresh salad and perfectly cooked broccolini, both excellent. I couldn’t resist ordering a side of whipped mashed potatoes, which were creamy and enough I could share with everyone. Everything was cooked to perfection, and the friendly, attentive wait staff made the experience even better. The vibe at Baraboo is always a highlight, think late ‘60s supper club with a cool, retro feel. It’s not the cheapest spot in town, but the food, service, and atmosphere make it worth every penny. We’re already planning to bring more friends next time! Pro tip: If you have time, arrive early and head to the rooftop bar for a drink. The views of Boise are incredible, and it’s a fun spot to start the evening. Highly recommend Baraboo Supper Club for a...
