It's been about a year since we have been to Deli George. The last time I was here I was really unimpressed with the apple gorgonzola salad. The apple slices were huge. There wasn't much in the lettuce department. For 14 bucks, there wasn't a lot of salad to it. My husband always gets the Boise Philly and they always do a good job. So, it's hard for me to say no when my husband wants to come here.
We stopped in today for a late lunch. My husband ordered his normal. I decided to be different and ordered the black and blue brat. The picture they have on the brat in their menu looked so good so I had to get it.
We grabbed a table and hung out till our food was ready. The food came out nice and hot. My husband's sandwich looked killer like always. Mine...... I wish I could have said the same. My brat came on a sandwich bun. It still looked good but I knew it was going to be a lot of breading to my brat. The brat as savory and peppery. It was good and had a good snap to it. It was kinda hard to enjoy the brat since they drowned my bun with the ground mustard. It was really overwhelming. And for 2 bucks you can add sauerkraut. Don't bother adding it cause you barely get any. My husband's sandwich was good. The filet was tender and the cheese was nice and melty.
Overall, it was an ok meal. I wish they would have told me about the bun being different. I would have ordered something else. I really want to like this place. They are local and I know the serve great did but I just haven't had that...
Read moreThis place is not the same since they have sold the company. I went during the lunch rush Friday and it was empty compared to what it use to be. I tried to sit in a couple of spots, but there was plates and other garbage there. I would of been understanding, however a lot of the employees (from what it seemed, as one of them would serve food) we're sitting there drinking beer. Food was nothing compared to what it use to be. The potato salad was way to garlicky, and I love garlic, I just don't think anyone taste tested. I also got the chicken salad sandwich, which I have gotten for years and it was so bland, and not what it use to be. My final complaint is the price. I have been coming here for 8 years(when they first moved to Broadway) and it's never bugged me. However, I paid $30 for my 14 month old daughter and I to eat. We got 2 drinks, a potato salad, chicken salad sandwich and a half of build your own just with ham and a couple of veggies. Sadly, I will not being coming back here anymore. I will miss it, as it's been my favorite deli in Boise for years. I will forever remember it for what it use to be, not...
Read moreI have been on the hunt for good sandwich shops in the Boise area and would consider my self an amateur sandwich connoisseur. Deli George is definitely up there in great sandwich shops. The atmosphere although a bit cluttered and dim was very homey. I tried the beef dip and the “Hey, that’s not Italian”. Starting with the beef dip. It was solid. The bread was really good, and the beer was well cooked. The dip itself was very good and have moisture to the sandwich. On the downside, there lacked sauce and seasoning. Thus, I would give it a 6/10. On the other hand, the “Hey, that’s not Italian” was superb. The bread was amazing, with peppers and herbs of sorts. The lettuce and sauce added the right amount of mistier, although it could have had a bit more sauce and salt. It was a really good cold saw high though. I’d give it a 7/10 but it could have a 7.5 potential if the addiction of more salt and sauces. Overall deli George was a great experience and I would recommend for a good sandwich if you are looking to...
