This is the first time ever that I have left a review on anything, but I felt strongly about this place. The atmosphere was great, and the staff were extremely nice and engaging! The margaritas were also very tasty! The service however was not good - while the employees were lovely (one of the staff was very nice and reviewed the menu in detail with us), the whole set up seemed very disorganized and disjointed. We had three or four people asking us if we needed anything, but what we asked came to fruition 15 min-ish after we asked for it (i.e. water, chips and salsa), and typically from a different person. After waiting for someone to take our food order (it was our first time there, so we had requested a few additional minutes to look over the menu), our food didn’t come out for around 40 min. When our waitress brought our mole enchiladas out, she apologized for the delay saying that our “ticket got lost” - that was the first time we had heard an update on why it was taking forever. The two tacos we had ordered came out shortly after the enchiladas. Biting into the octopus chorizo taco, I was unable to pierce through the piece of octopus. It was incredibly chewy, and was so spicy that I had to spit it out. My boyfriend experienced the same thing. When our waitress came to check on us, I told her that we did not like that taco which I thought she may be interested in since we ordered it on her recommendation. She very nicely apologized. The food overall (besides the inedible octopus taco) was ok. Nothing I would recommend or desire to eat again. There was a couple next to our table that sent back their nachos twice due to them being cold, and eventually requested that they be removed from their bill. My biggest disgruntlement in the experience was the lack of accountability for the fact that 1) the food took forever due to a “lost ticket”, and 2) the food recommendation did not work out. I will not be going back, and not recommending this place to anyone. Again, the staff were extremely nice, I just wish there had been a little more ownership of the food and the process (i.e. long wait times). I don’t think it would have been too much to comp a $4 taco on a $58 bill. Or even a free margarita - anything to acknowledge and show appreciation for customers. Overall, very friendly staff with ok food and disorganized...
Read moreSo disappointed. The menu had unique items at good prices for downtown. I loved the open-air indoor seating. It was clean and had a nice ambiance. The bathroom was clean. They have non-typical Mexican menu items and that I was excited to try. My friend and I had the 3 specialty tacos and we had 6 different tacos. We also split a $7 tamale-like appetizer, that was roughly two bites each. At least that had flavor and wasn't as cold as the tacos we got (but also not very hot in the middle, like it had been microwaved). All the tacos came with cold, soggy tortillas and warm, to slighty-hot fillings. The fact that they serve the food on thin, aluminum plates probably adds to extreme loss of heat. The flavor wasn't really there. The salsas weren't hot enough. The carne asada was hard and chewy, like it had been recooked at least twice. The carnitas wasn't bad. But not very flavorful. The barbacoa was extremely dry and almost powdery. It had a nasty dog-food flavor/smell to it. I sent it back.
The worst part was the terrible rice and beans. The rice was bland, but at least cooked well. It just had no flavor. The beans were a disaster. They had no lard or seasoning whatsoever. They aren't the flavorful beans you get in any of the Mexican restaurants. They didn't even use salt, apparently. Worse, they were so dry that there were chunks of desiccated bits. Like it got over-microwaved. It was honestly disgusting. We were able to eat them after asking for salt (there is none on the tables), and slathering the mild hot sauces all over them. They were honestly the worst beans I've ever had in a restaurant, or even can. Taco Bell is 100x better. Wow. How do you screw up refried beans that much??
It was such a disappointing experience because the unusual variety promised so much. I wish I could say I would be going back. But with cold, soggy tortillas and lukewarm tacos- unfortunately I'm going to stick with the much-better taco carts and get food that is fresh, hot and priced...
Read moreOnce we received the food it was good, but the process of getting the food took forever and the service was terrible!!! I tried to contact management directly, but never received a callback and couldn't find an email address to discuss my concerns.
We ate at the restaurant on a recent Friday evening and there were about 20 people in the restaurant, 1 server, 1 bus boy, 1 bartender, and 4 cooks. The server appeared at our table after 10 minutes to take our order, when we asked the server about the happy hour, he tossed the happy menu on our table and walked away. He didn't come back for another 10 minutes. Once I was able to make eye contact with the server, he finally came back to our table and took the order.
After what I consider to be a reasonable time, we received the food. It was good, especially the gringa taco, but a bit on the small side. We quickly ate our food and wanted more, so instead of the server coming back to check on us, I had to get up and ask him to come back to our table and take another order.
Our second order took at least 20 minutes to be delivered. We ordered 4 tacos and nachos. It took so long that I walked over to the server and asked what was going on because he never came by and discussed the delay. Based on the cook to server ratio, I am assuming he forgot to put in the order. When the food finally arrived, it was missing the nachos. He told me that they burned them and are making another batch. I asked him to cancel the order of nachos. He obliged, never apologized and was just a terrible server.
I have eaten here about 5 times. The service is very hit or miss and I would expect that the owner/management would take a more active role in making sure the right people...
