Parking Problems Overshadowed an Otherwise Promising Stay at The Sparrow
The Sparrow is a boutique hotel located in upper downtown Boise, offering a unique, niche lodging experience. Its convenient location—within walking distance of restaurants, bars, and shopping—was the main reason I chose to stay there.
Before booking, I did my research. Their website mentions that parking is “first come, first serve,” but upon check-in, I was offered paid onsite parking with a designated space and a pass to hang on my rearview mirror. Given the hotel’s limited parking, paying for a reserved spot seemed like a smart decision to avoid off-site or street parking.
However, the reality of the parking situation was far from what was promised. Even though I paid for a designated spot, there was no guarantee it would actually be available. The hotel's parking policy is poorly enforced, and there appears to be little accountability for unauthorized vehicles taking up reserved spaces.
When I raised the issue with staff, their only solution was to refund the parking fee and advise me to park on the street. I reluctantly did so, only to find the same vehicle still parked in my assigned spot the next morning—now with a new parking pass. Once again, the front desk staff had no real resolution, eventually escalating the situation by suggesting I leave the hotel altogether and offering a full refund for my stay.
None of the local staff were able—or willing—to effectively resolve the issue. I had to contact the manager directly and explain that all I wanted was access to the services I had paid for and been promised. Without proper enforcement or willingness to tow unauthorized vehicles, charging for parking feels completely unjustified.
This frustrating parking situation cast a shadow over what should have been a relaxing and enjoyable getaway. It’s an issue that could have been easily resolved with better communication, clear policy enforcement, and proactive customer service—none of which were present...
Read moreI am giving this place a two-star rating, primarily from services associated with the hotel. It is a nice boutique hotel in Boise and the decor is interesting. My stay was pleasant.
That said, it is impossible to get in contact with someone unless you are standing in front of them at the desk. When my flight was cancelled to Boise the evening before, I could not get anyone to answer the phone. I had a co-worker go to the desk to let them know I was unable to arrive that evening. After my stay, I realized they took the room rate for a three-night stay and bumped up the prices on a two-night stay to keep the overall cost the same (they did not take off the one night, so I essentially paid for two hotel rooms). I have once again reached out to understand the hotel bill and cannot get a person to email or call.
IF everything goes well, you will have a pleasant experience. However, if anything goes wrong, don't expect anyone on the other end to be helpful unless you can stand in front of them. I like to give boutique hotels a shot, but this stay has reminded me why my status with Hilton and...
Read moreDuring my recent stay, I loved the hotel’s prime location and unique layout. The room was cozy with a fresh twist on standard hotel decor, featuring local Boise touches that added character. Everything was impeccably clean, and the water pressure was excellent—with reliably hot water throughout. Although parking was a challenge (a common downtown issue, especially for truck drivers), the staff made up for it by reserving a spot for me.
However, noise was a significant drawback. The room was quite loud—every appliance seemed to have its own volume, and I could hear people talking and even yelling outside. The nearby business area, particularly the garbage compactor, was disruptive enough to impact my sleep, leaving me with only a few hours of rest. If you’re a light sleeper or value quiet nights, you might want to explore other options.
Overall, I’d rate this hotel a three out of five. While it offers charm, comfort, and excellent service, the noise levels severely affected the quality...
