Garden Table is an overpriced hipster past their prime restaurant serving below average food, & with little regard to customer satisfaction. We were in the restaurant just past their 10 am opening on Sunday 10/15/23 Front of house staff were positive, upbeat, & friendly & we were seated right away. The restaurant was approximately 30% occupied. Waits were long between menu drop off? Orders being taken, & the foods arrival. Now to the most important information EAT SOME PLACE ELSE. My order consisted of 2 cold rubbery over cooked poached eggs that I believe were not made today. Dry tasteless un seasoned potatoes (also served below temp) As for the biscuit - I would have rather have had a cheap store brand canned biscuit. This one was hard, cold, dense to the point of being brick like & flavorless. The pepper bacon was miss named, it would have been better called salt bacon. It too was cold, fatty, & completely overcooked. Not like crispy/crumbly overcooked, but oh look I just made shoe leather overcooked. The best thing on my plate was the blueberry compote. It was delicious. I decided to just order a slice of toast to enjoy with my compote , but alas our waitress never returned. She passed by a few times but never glanced our way. I did watch her laughing it up with another staff member at the back of the room for several minutes (15) but we were not on her radar. My husband’s blueberry stack was a block, I’m not kidding, a block of dry overcooked maybe cornbread/ pancake stuff cut into slabs. There were no blueberries in it, but I think it was called a stack because there were a few blueberries on the plate & the slabs were “stacked?” on them? The blueberries were tasty. My daughters meal was the biscuits & gravy. Just don’t. As our waitress never returned I had to forgo the toast & leave my blueberry compote behind. The waitress did bring out our check after someone else cleared our nearly full plates away. Never asking if we enjoyed our meals or if we required anything else. The receipt came with a requested 25% tip. Ah No. I attempted to scroll down to a lower tip , but it only suggested down to 20% so I had to customize to 15%. Some will think that 15% was too high but I was hoping that the tip would be shared with the lovely front of house people. Do yourself a favor & don’t go to Garden Table. Try Tupelo Honey. The food there is delicious, both the biscuits & the potatoes are outstanding. The staff is also...
Read moreI wanted to share my recent experience at Garden Table Mass Ave with you. I brought six friends for lunch at noon today, and we had made reservations in advance. When we arrived, the hostess warmly welcomed us and seated us immediately, even though we were 15 minutes early.
Several of my friends had never been to Garden Table before, and I had been raving about how great it was. Our waitress was attentive, patient, and checked on us several times. The restaurant was not very busy, and many tables were unoccupied.
At the end of our meal, which totaled over $200, I asked Mallory, one of the waitresses, if she could take a quick picture for us. She was not waiting on a table or with customers but was standing off to the side, typing on her credit card reader. Since it wasn't busy, I figured it was a reasonable request. To my surprise, she responded, "Um, not right now, maybe you can just go ask someone else like a hostess or something." She said this in front of my entire party and another table that we knew. I was so taken aback that I didn't say anything in return.
One of our group members walked towards the hostess stand to ask if she could take a picture of us, and the hostess kindly agreed. As I began to walk towards the door, I noticed a bar in the middle of the restaurant with what seemed like a walkway through to the front door. As I started to walk through, a long dark-haired waitress with an emerald green top and jean shorts said, "Don't walk through here, don't walk through the bar, don't walk through here." She never stopped washing the glass to make eye contact with me, so I didn't realize she was talking to me at first. Once I did, I immediately turned around and walked around the bar. It was confusing, and I made an honest mistake, thinking it was a walkway. To me, behind the bar is where I could grab bottles of alcohol and start scooping ice.
While the food was amazing as usual, the seven of us will never return. Customer service is so easy and free—just be nice. It's pretty simple. We were not rude at any point, even after being snubbed by one waitress and...
Read moreI visited The Garden Table on 12.12.21 with my girlfriend and another couple. It was our first time at the restaurant; we didn’t want to leave and kept saying how it’s a must we come back.
Based on what I have heard/experienced first-hand, The Garden Table is stationed in one of the most popping areas in downtown Indianapolis, Mass Ave. As a result, along with the customer service and food, please expect a wait. However, it’s worth the wait. Suggestion: enjoy Mass Ave. while you wait, if it’s a nice day like today, and because the restaurant has a texting system that will let you know when your table is ready.
The service was on point, ask for Blake! Communication was clear, concise and accurate about the wait time and menu recommendations.
Last, but not least, the food was absolutely amazing. I tried a sample of the Neon Nector cold-pressed juice. OMG, it was so good; the restaurant put their on twist on orange juice. My only critique here is that the drink didn’t come over ice, but rather a chilled glass. I’m an ice lover and would have preferred the drink over ice. I also tried the Cinnamon Sugar Bites with apple butter and syrup. Three words: beignets watch out. These were a mixture of crispy and fluffy at the same time. You definitely have to put the apple butter and syrup on them (together) to get the full mouth watering experience. For my main entree, I had the Smoked Salmon Hash, with a fried instead of poached egg. When I say it’s a burst of flavors in your mouth, cooked to perfection, that’s actually an understatement. The bits and hash are “large entrees”, large enough to share with the table.
I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will be back to try another juice and...
