Alright, folks, let me spill the beans on the mind-blowing O.G. Burger at The Oakmont! This bad boy is no ordinary burger. From the locally baked brioche bun to the mouthwatering 8oz beef blend patty, it's a flavor explosion like no other!
My two sisters and I visited The Oakmont for the first time, and it was delightful. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm hospitality and a cozy atmosphere. The decor is truly captivating—a blend of dark, speakeasy-inspired elements with quirky eclecticism. The cool, tricked-out vibes reminiscent of a stylish basement hangout.
We kicked things off with an appetizer that set the bar high—Fried Deviled Eggs. Let me just say, those dang eggs were absolutely amazing! Lightly breaded and fried egg whites filled with a truffle egg mix, bacon, dill, and smoked paprika. It was a unique twist on a classic dish that left us wanting more. The combination of flavors was out of this world, setting the tone for an incredible dining experience.
Now, let's get to the star of the show—my O.G. Burger! First things first, that patty is the real deal. They've blended chuck, brisket, and short rib beef, and boy, does it make a difference. It's juicy, tender, and bursting with flavor. With every bite, I was thanking my lucky stars!
But hold up, we're not done yet. This burger takes gourmet to a whole new level. Slapped with sharp cheddar that melted into a cheesy dream, and topped with crispy bacon that added a smoky, savory kick, each bite was pure bliss! The meaty goodness was balanced with a pile of shredded romaine lettuce, juicy tomato slices, and zesty red onions. More onion would have been nice, but hey, it's a minor quibble. That burger had me doing a happy dance!
Now, let's talk about that garlic aioli. Holy moly, it's creamy, garlicky heaven! Just pure magic, my friends! Oh, and don't even get me started on the homemade pickles served on the side. Tangy, slightly crunchy, and just the right amount of pickle goodness. Mmm, mm, umph!
Two of us had the O.G, and the other sister went for the Oakmont chicken sandwich. Let me tell you, she was going on and on about that flavor bomb! Tender, crispy chicken, yummy toppings, and a perfectly toasted bun—it was a hit all around. One of the most memorable moments was when my sister took her first bite of the O.G. Burger. As she savored the combination of the juicy beef patty, melted sharp cheddar, and smoky bacon, her eyes widened with delight, and she let out an involuntary "Mmm!" that echoed through the cozy dining space. Pure joy!
To complement our sandwiches, we couldn't resist ordering the garlic truffle fries. Trust me, they were the perfect sidekick to that already sensational burger. The fries were crispy, seasoned to perfection, and infused with the unmistakable aroma of truffle—adding an extra layer of decadence to the whole experience. All served up with ketchup and that oh-so-delicious garlic aioli!
As if our taste buds weren't already in foodie heaven, we couldn't resist trying a dessert. We shared the Bread Pudding—a delightful finale to our meal. The combination of challah bread, cinnamon, bourbon creme anglaise, blueberry, blackberry, candied pecans, and powdered sugar was simply heavenly. It was comfort food at its finest!
Oh! And the libations were exceptional! My Ol' Fashioned was rich and full-flavored, with no hint of watered-down bourbon. My sister’s stout paired perfectly with her O.G. Burger, while The Influencer cocktail added a refreshing touch to the other sister's crispy fried chicken sandwich. Who could ask for more?
Before I wrap this up, I must give a special shoutout to Kaisa and Nate for their exceptional service. They were friendly, attentive, and made our dining experience even more enjoyable with their helpful suggestions. Their passion for food and commitment to creating a memorable experience stood out!
Listen up, folks. The O.G. Burger is the real deal. If you're looking for a flavor-packed burger experience that'll blow your socks off, this is the one. Trust me, you...
Read moreGrab a cup of tea and take a seat because this review is a doozy. This was my first time at this restaurant and the atmosphere and food were good. But that doesn't account for what I'm about to say. Myself and two friends come in and are told it will be 15 to 20 minutes before we have a table. Totally fine. We are at the bar for maybe 3 minutes and a worker comes up and tells us that our table is ready. We sit down and order our drinks and appetizer. Both take quite a while to get to our table. However they also bring a side salad. I flag our waitress down to say we didn't order one and she says the tables got mixed up and proceeds to pick up the salad from our table and immediately takes it to the table that ordered it. Same salad. We then continue waiting for our food for about 45 min-1hr. Once we have our food and have been eating for about 5 minutes our waitress comes over and says that she doesn't want us to feel like were getting kicked out but asks if we can be done eating by 8:45 due to a reservation, which was 20 minutes from that point in time. We agree and begin scarfing down our food. Then, what I'm thinking is the manger, comes over to our table again and says: "Ladies, I will pay for your ENTIRE meal if you guys move over to the lounge." And the lounge was two pink velvet couches. Of course we agree bc free food and also we no longer have to rush to eat. My friends and I finish eating and we get up to leave and our waitress RUNS to catch us at the door and says; " I know we said we would pay for your entire meal, but that doesn't include drinks". We each got one alcoholic beverage. So at the door, in a very busy restaurant, this woman makes us pay for the drinks that were not clarified we would have to pay for when the manager originally said he would pay for the entire meal and made us move. It made us look like we were dining and dashing after we got asked to hurry up and leave and then asked to move. While the food was delicious, my experience was terrible and my first time will be my last time. And I will tell all people who I interact with about this experience. Oakmont, it is not our fault you did not plan accordingly for a reservation and this is a classic example of " a mistake on your part does not account for an emergency on mine". You should have let us have a completely free meal or clarified that the drinks were in fact not included in the "entire meal" statement originally made nor RAN TO STOP AS AT THE DOOR TO PAY.
Update: the owner contacted me personally and apologized for the situation. He explained to the managers and staff how that wasnt the correct way to handle things and how my experience...
Read moreMyself and two colleagues stopped in for dinner while in town on business. I had found researching local restaurants via Google Maps and it appeared intriguing. It surpassed all expectations. From the friendly staff to the ambience (sort of edgy/ultra-lounge like a reformed dive bar that has roots in perhaps some dark places but has taken on a powerful more modern vibe) to the food which was amazing in terms of diversity, quality and quantity.
The drinks were particularly good especially recommend The Smoking Gun - PERFECT refreshing chill/summer drink and my friends both would recommend their choices the Cajun Salmon Tacos and the Tequila Chicken dinners. I had the Oakmont Chicken Sandwich (crispy vs. grilled) per our server's recommendation. We also had the blue corn quesadillas for starter which were really good.
And about that server, BIG kudos to Manuela C. When you travel around the country you have a lot of meals in a lot of restaurants (well not in the last year and 9 months, but you get the picture). She was about as perfect a server as one could hope for. Took care of three out-of-towners start to finish, solid recommendations, great personality and made us all equally welcome and sorry to leave.
We'd all ABSOLUTELY come back in just for the quirky atmosphere and food, but honestly Manuela was the major part of making tonight (our first road trip seeing each other in almost two years) extra perfect. She's a treasure and would be a role model anywhere.
If you're in Indianapolis and are looking for more food than you can eat that's also fantastic and service that will keep you coming back - stop by The Oakmont! We struggled to finish everything and had to surrender leaving some food behind which is NOT usual for...
