The establishment appeared to be inadequately staffed, and the employees exhibited limited English proficiency. My spouse and I visited the establishment with the intention of partaking in alcoholic beverages. We clearly communicated this to our server, yet she persistently inquired about our interest in ordering food. We requested two glasses of water and a carafe of Sangria. It became evident that she did not comprehend our request, prompting her to seek assistance from a colleague who possessed better English comprehension. Despite this intervention, only one glass of water was provided instead of the requested two. The individual who assisted us clarified that the establishment only offered Sangria by the glass and that it was a specialty house Sangria. He also reiterated the suggestion to order food. We reiterated our desire for beverages only and placed an order for two glasses of the house-made Sangria, requesting an additional glass of water. The establishment provided the customary chips and salsa. However, the salsa lacked flavor and had a watery consistency, resembling V8 juice with added cilantro and chili powder. This deviated from authentic Mexican cuisine and was the poorest salsa we have encountered. Upon receiving the beverages, we discovered that they did not resemble Sangria. Notably, there was an absence of red wine in the drinks. Instead, they consisted of a mixture of orange juice, lime juice, and spices, akin to a Margarita rather than Sangria. The cost of the beverages was $10.99 each, which, in all honesty, was excessive considering their actual value of approximately $5.00 each. Our overall experience with the beverages was negative, and as a result, I cannot recommend this establishment. As visitors to the area, we were disappointed by the quality of the restaurant and will not be returning in...
Read moreI feel bad writing a not so good review. The staff is really nice. However the food leaves a LOT to be desired. First of all, the salsa is from a can. They straight up told me that. That's a huge strike for me cuz I freaking LOVE salsa, but moving on. I ordered a chicken tostada and a side of beans. Got home and found the chicken tostada was actually beef. Which I could have dealt with but it was ground beef. Hamburger meat! What self respecting Mexican restaurant uses ground beef in anything? Much less tostadas? That meat should have been shredded! So I went back, and they graciously switched it out for a chicken tostada (they really ARE nice there). Got home and got ready to eat and..... It was ground beef again. No! But wait. I took a closer look and cautiously tasted it, and it was ground chicken. I don't think I've ever eaten ground chicken in my life. I didn't even know it existed. So nope. I'm done. The salsa and the ground meat was too much. On a side and less important note, the beans were not salted and there was barely any cheese on either the beans or the tostada. Since I want to exit on a positive note, I will say the drink list is extensive, with a ton of different margaritas to be had, so there's...
Read moreUpon entering El Mezcal Mexican Restaurant, one instantly notices all of the Mexican decor as well as the friendly waitresses. You are immediately greeted without hesitation and the workers are genuinely happy to see you. The food they serve tastes authentic and delicious. When I went, I ordered the chicken quesadilla as I often do. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the quesadilla was moist but not too moist. The flavors popped in your mouth and were absolutely delicious. Additionally, the sides that were served with it (beans an rice, per usual) were absolutely delicious. Didn’t taste store bought and were almost authentic. Being that I have traveled abroad to a hispanic country, I am very familiar with how authentic salsa should taste and how delicious it is when it is crafted correctly. The salsa that is served with the chips at El Mezcal is absolutely delicious and I would highly recommend it to anybody who lives on the west side of Washington Township. All in all, El Mezcal is a great competitor in the Mexican restaurant industry and is thriving at not just the food it creates, but in its customer...
