I hate to have to write this review but it is a must. I typically go to their drive through so the food has never been an issue but last night was unbelievable.
A group of friends and I came in to this location. Now I’m never one to call “ racist “ so you all can be the judge of that but three of us are african American and one caucasian . As soon as we got there one friend ( white one) dashes to the bathroom before we get seated. Someone comes over a minute after and proceeds to seat us.
Now we do prefer booths but never said we wouldn’t accept a table. so as we walked up to the table ,one of my other friends asked if there were any booths available. We all can clearly see at least three booths open but he didn’t say anything. So she asks again assuming he didn’t hear her.
Now this man practically went off . He goes to say “ we don’t have any clean! This is the only place you can sit. I'm the only person here today so I don’t need this right now. And if you want to have an attitude you all can get up and go. I’m the manager so I have that authority.”
At this point We’re all in shock . I rush to the bathroom where one friend still was to let her know we will not be staying. I tell her exactly what happens and of course she’s pissed. So we left that filthy bathroom and to our surprise all the empty booths we saw were filled . Mind you This whole ordeal happened within only about 5 minutes tops. So my friend ( the white) asked him why we couldn’t have a booth yet he filled one of them a mintue later with a middle aged white couple.
He tells her because “ your little friend had an attitude” we ask to speak to somone above him but he just walked off. No one had an attitude but him. The friend asking for the booth asked one simple question and he blows up.
Now what really got me is as we left he said “ yeah you guys can leave , I’ve lost customers before and you’ll just be another one” again this is coming from the so called manger. He never gave us his name but he had dark short hair , about 5”8 and had weird piercings in his ear.
We called customer service immediately and made our way to the applebees across the street .. we asked them for a booth and the lovely gentleman there offered to actually check and...
Read moreif youre going to go here go through the drive through especially at night. i have visited this location about 10 times now i love steak n shake and i live down the street so its convienient and the cooks do a good job. however everyone else sucks. when i walk in the door i am never greeted immidiately but i make eye contact.with several.associates or managers who are usually just standing around sometimes they even stare at me as if theyre saying "what are you doing here?" eventually something kicks in and they realize theyre AT THEIR JOBS! and i get greeted taken to a table and they take my order i get my drink 10 minutes after placing my order and then i get the wonderful experience of watching my food sit in the window after its finished for atleast another 10 minutes and then after i get my food i never see my server again. i am a server myself so i try to make things as easy as possible i get no ice so i need less refills . i move my cup to the edge of the table to signal i need a refil. i stack my plates to make it easy to clean but my service is always the same. same waitress a middle agedish butch woman who always complains how hard her job is but if she would put her phone down and pay attention to her table not only would she make more money but it wouldnt be so hard to catch up. not like she tries to revisit her table for even the two minute two bite checkback which is basic for any server. i even saw her training another server who would let her do that? that poor girl is going to develop the same poor habits and hate her job just as much. and then during the training this butch woman stared right at my empty glass and did nothing. im a server but i do not tip cashiers. she doesnt even come back to the table so i can give her help or advice with her job but unfortunately it would appear the laziness and apathy goes right up to the gm. i hope regional reads this and can get this place into shape or even the servers so they can realize that getting refils and checking up on your taable is part of their job and their customers will actually pay them if they do their job properly. but... chances are they wont...
Read moreThis is a rating of a particular experience than of the Steak 'n Shake itself, which is newer, clean, and set up just like every other one I've been in.
I took a group of about 30 students here on the way home from a field trip. This is a good group of students who had been complimented throughout the day on their behavior.
First of all, it took FOREVER to be served. To be clear, the establishment was not busy. There were only about 4 other customers, and they had all been served when we came in.
Before I had even gotten my drink, one waitress complained to myself and the other teachers that kids were "only ordering shakes". After some questioning, I found that her issue was that the kids weren't spending a lot of money. Upon discovering this, I was agitated. I reminded her that her job is to serve them, not to judge or police their orders. Before I received my meal, another waitress came with the first, complaining that waitresses were not being tipped. I questioned how she could even know that since I could see some kids (not to mention myself) hadn't even gotten their food yet! It didn't take a genius to piece together that the kids, having gotten their bills before their meals were paying with cash (because they are kids and don't have credit cards), and the waitresses were seeing no tip on the receipts BECAUSE IT WAS A CASH TRANSACTION.
Infuriated, I asked to speak to a manager. He was very apologetic, and my meal was not interrupted anymore, but I could hear the waitresses complaining from halfway across the room.
After I ate what I'm sure was a sneezeburger, I paid and left - you guessed it - without leaving a tip for the only...
