Dexter's Backyard BBQ — Restaurant in Isla de Vieques

Absolutely DELICIOUS bbq. My friend got the pulled pork, bbq chicken, and cheesy corn and LOVED it all. I'm vegetarian, so I never expect there to be much at a BBQ place for me, but Dexter had me covered! I had an absolutely fantastic homemade veggie sausage and it was all dressed up. Delicious sauce, slaw, crispy onions... It was mouth watering. Sweet tea was delicious, and the coleslaw was the best I've ever had. Perfect amount of sweet, to tangy, to zesty, to crunchy... On top of the food being excellent, you can tell that Dexter himself cares deeply about ever diner who visits having an excellent experience. He's on top of everything and totally focused on the details. I recently saw a food vlogger do a glowing spot on Dexter's food, and I absolutely had the same experience: just blown away by the quality of both food...

Wow, just wow! After an extraordinarily disappointing venture for BBQ the day before, we found THE place to go. The smell alone was the best green flag. Dexter is so welcoming and he definitely knows what he's doing!

I got the mashed potato bowl with brisket, and my mouth was already watering before my fork could make it to my mouth. The brisket was so juicy and falling apart, on top of garlic mashed potatoes with cheesey corn and frizzled onions. Friends had the pulled pork, the brisket sandwich and the trash dog and all were more than satisfied. Had to take a guava cream cheese fruit pie home for later, and it was devine.

Dexter is not only an awesome & friendly dude but he also makes excellent BBQ - trust me, I worked for both Oink&Moo BBQ and The Piggery up in the states. We ordered an Arnold Palmer, the Rancho Brisket, and the Pulled Pork Sandwich and all of it exceeded expectations for taste, quality, and price. The Rancho Brisket was on a cornbread biscuit which was an excellent choice - even the dang pickles were on point. Highly recommend the Bowls & also the Trash Dog! Overall, a fantastic Food Truck to catch on Mondays in Esperanza (and other different places...
