On our way back to Idaho from Yellowstone July 15, we swung south through Jackson. We arrived there right around noon on a Tuesday, the entire downtown area was a total zoo. Drove around for a half hour looking for a single space to park with no luck. We were hoping to lunch at a downtown spot.
So we gave up and started heading out of town. Found this place on Google maps and with some road construction/closure it might be slightly difficult to get in for a week or so? But we found a parking spot right near the front. It’s a little “hole in the wall” place, a little dated and not the cleanest place we have ever been in, but the food is excellent.
They seem to have a bunch of different Chinese dishes in addition to the usual ones, I presume they are “more authentic“. Being a typical American, we got the combination dishes, which I assume take the place of the usual “lunch specials”. I’m sure the menu is the same for lunch and dinner. They seemed a little pricey at $19.95 each, but we figured it’s sort of a touristy town and that was not outrageous.
I put the $20-$30 per person range since with tax it came to just over $20. We just had water. I didn’t even think about it until now, but hot tea was not offered nor drank. That would’ve gone well with the meal actually.
Turns out it’s a very large amount of food for the money, we each took home more than half leftovers, I just devoured mine for a large lunch.
I got the triple special: chicken, beef, and shrimp. They come with choice of fried or white rice, three types of soup, and a spring roll or crab Rangoon? Maybe a couple other options?
The hot and sour soup was delicious, had a nice amount of kick to it and lots of good stuff in it.
The fried rice and spring roll were only average, but still tasty.
The main course was absolutely delicious. Large amounts of beef, chicken and about eight shrimp. Just the right amount of vegetables, not too much broccoli, and the other vegetables, all were cooked perfectly to my taste anyway. The sauce was excellent and a good amount.
They didn’t overload it with excess vegetables (especially onions) as some places do.
My wife got the orange chicken combo, with white rice and wonton soup, and was just as impressed.
They have a dozen or more selections for the combos, in addition to single dishes of every other thing that Chinese restaurants usually have. Based on what we got, I would think any of it would be excellent.
Highly recommended if you can handle slightly less than pristine/spotless accommodations. Nothing that offended my sensibilities. Great service and...
Read moreThis may be one of the top Chinese restaurants I have been to traveling the world, and I love love love Asian food. I wasn't expecting much due to the area, but boy was I wrong. My husband and I ordered the fried pork ribs in typhoon shelter style, along with mongolian beef, and yang chow fried rice. The typhoon dish was out of this world amazing. Maybe one of the best Chinese dishes either of us have had, ever. My husband doesn't even like Chinese food that much and he devoured this dish barely coming up for air. This dish is made up of bone-in pork ribs that have been fried, tossed in a Shanghai style sauce, and then sprinkled with fried cornbread crumbs. The flavor was just mind blowing. This should be a must try dish when visiting Jackson Hole. Unfortunately I have never seen this dish in any other Chinese restaurants, not even ones that specialize in Shanghai style cuisine. We didn't have time to take a picture of this dish because once we started eating it we couldn't stop. But there is a picture of it on the outside of the restaurants' window.
The yang chow fried rice paired well with the mongolian beef, although a little bland, but a little soy sauce and black pepper and it too hit the spot. The mongolian beef was tender and full of flavor. Btw the portions are huge, we got 4 meals out of this order. I would travel back to Jackson to eat here again. Wish I could pursue them to relocate closer to...
Read moreI'm not picky, but this should really be 1.5 stars regarding the food. Not sure if it was just an off day for China Fun or what. But wow, where do I start?
My wife and I tried this place out on a Saturday because the other place didn't open until later. We ordered the General Tao's chicken combination platter for $20 bucks and split it. You get soup and an appetizer. We added a small egg drop soup to it. The hot and sour soup was so salty that I was unable to finish it. Then the General Tao's came out and it looked good. We started eating it, and I asked my wife if it tasted fishy? She said yeah. I thought they were frying everything together, including shrimp and crab. Regardless, General Tao's chicken shouldn't taste like fish. After reading some of the other reviews claiming the oil was rancid, it made sense. Everything was way too salty as well and the egg roll was tiny and mushy. The fried rice was just steamed rice disguised with soy sauce. We only ate about half of the food and didn't even bother to take the leftovers to go.
The waiter was OK, but seemed to know what I was talking about when I mentioned that the cook needed to change the oil. Anyway, my wife and I didn't have a lot of fun at China Fun. This place needs to step...
