Attend at your own risk!! Some girlfriends and I were so excited to go to the Jackson Hole Rodeo as we were on vacation and prepaid for tickets to be a part of the fun. I grew up riding horses and know quite a bit and what to expect, this also means I know the risks which come with riding. Within the first 30 minutes of the show, a bronc horse had fallen on its rider... holding my breathe, I saw both horse and rider were back on their feet and seemingly alright. This should have been my warning. As my friends and I continued having a good time, another set of bronc riders began. This is when another horse fell on the rider... this pair was not as lucky as the first. Gasps from my friends surrounded me as I stood up to see what happened... This poor horses leg was completely shattered, as they stood the horse up (why they would have the horse walk is another topic), the leg was dangling like jello. The horse tried putting its leg down to walk and its knee completely inverted, this brings nausea and tears as I write, knowing the pain this poor thing was going through. At this time, my girlfriends unaware, I had to explain the fate of the horse in which there was little to no chance of survival.
I reviewed my decision to attend this rodeo, because now I know I have paid $40 for this horse to give its life for my own entertainment. This will never be worth it for me, 2 falls in an hour... we...
Read moreThe Jackson Hole Rodeo is a very unique piece of living American Frontier History Situated in the heart of a progressive town that has otherwise removed the many previous generations' impact on the area. Change is inevitable, and maybe I am tainted. I come from a big city and have lived in several small towns that have adopted city mentality, infrastructure, and planning it's moved those areas away from many generations' positive impacts.
The Jackson Hole Rodeo and Rodeo's across America are an opportunity for young people (including my 3 year old grandson) to go and be part of American culture. There is heart and soul in the Rodeo that encompasses the special kinship American Ranchers and Farmers have had with their horses and bulls.
The Rodeo remembers, acknowledges, and celebrates God, Faith, and Family in the details.
It's a reminder that it is ok to love America and Americans.
God bless The Wilson's, God Bless The Jackson Hole Rodeo and God Bless America. I sure hope that The Jackson Hole Rodeo moves to a town that will celebrate...
Read moreThis is the second time experiencing the wonders of Jackson Hole Rodeo and watching people with far more confidence then me preform amazing feats (and with much better body condition. Glaring at you, 35 year old Army destroyed back)
First was barrel racing and bull riding back part year. Amazing. Good old cowboy sports, shennigians, and rodeo clowns. The blindfolded YMCA was amazing to watch.
Second was figure 8 racing this year. No idea what the holy heck was going on other then DAREDEVIL HIGH SPEED SHENNIGIANS IN CLAPPED OUT WRECKS AND A PT CRUISER. Glorious. Completely impossible to understand what the heck was going on due to the speed, dust, parts flying off, and engine smoke from rings failing plus near misses every few seconds.
Tldr: bring a cushion, your butt is fusing to the metal benches and you will be come one with the stands. All hail shennigians on hoof or tire. Go moose!
The taco truck was good too. Great...
