Basics Cooperative Natural Foods — Restaurant in Janesville

Been a long-time customer of Basics, and have often overlooked some of the down sides when I shopped there often.

I don't live in the area any more, but here visiting family, and stopped in to pick up a few things, including some chicken. I wouldn't normally buy chicken here because items are so overpriced so I like to stick with things I can't get elsewhere (like Woodman's). But I was here, needed chicken, and felt the extra expense was worth not having to make the additional trip to another store.

I really wish I had gone to Woodman's.

When I got home, opened the packages of chicken to cook them, they were both completely bad. I have smelled rotten meat before, but this was so sickening, I had to double wrap it in plastic bags before throwing it in the trash.

Checked the package date and they should not have gone off.

As far as other reviews mentioning staff attitude, I've never had a bad experience with most of the checkers. However, on occasion when I've been browsing the supplements area I've gotten some attitude or just weird tone. As soon as Amazon Prime came about I ditched buying supplements from Basics specifically because of this.

I was really surprised at how much Woodman's has expanded their choices of organic foods, so really not any reason for me to shop at Basics anymore. It's a shame, because I would rather spend my money at the co-op, but it's not worth it if I'm getting overcharged on rotten...

Looking at the 2 older reviews, either the Coop has all new personnel or the writers have an axe to grind. I've been going there for over a year (traveling from Delavan to shop) and couldn't be happier. Their staff has gone out of their way to be helpful, and everyone positive, upbeat. Regarding prices, this is a specialized food store already! You can't compare to Woodman's and as far as Willy st, I lived in Madison 7 years and shopped at Willy's the entire time. I found prices fairly comparable, but Willy's has a huge customer base which can affect prices. Shopping sales and special sale days allows an even bigger savings, as well as becoming a member. Nasty reviews are always just painful to see, glad I won't be encountering those writers. ...

Im noticing a decline in the quality of the muffins and smoothies i get from the cafe in basics. When i first tasted the GF muffins i has at least 2-3 choices and they were moist and tasted so good. It was amazing. But now in the last 3 weeks 90 percent of the time all they make are bluberry and they are not moist and they crumble easily and they dont taste as good. Also their smoothies used to be thick now they are very watered down so u dont get all the protein powered ur actually paying for. If something doesnt change i wont be going anymore.
