A wily frontier-woman has partially domesticated a small piece of Wild Alaska in the name of the Imperial Saloon on Frontier Street in Juneau Alaska.
The Imperial Saloon is just a few doors past the typical tourist taverns. An unassuming watering hole, the Imperial Saloon seeps the same self assurance that has long populated the furthest outposts of modern societies.
Out host, Shelly, has been running the Imperial, 365 days a year for over 30 years. For Christmas and Thanksgiving Shelly serves a full turkey dinner for the locals. Shelly has made the Imperial Saloon a real, old fashion, community-building, Public House.
In Juneau, if you would like a positive, local experience then I strongly recommend finding Shelly at the Imperial Saloon. Ask her to share some fascinating history about Alaska’s oldest and most famous liquor...
Read moreThe lady attending to the bar told me they have WiFi when I asked before ordering. She confirmed as much but had to call and ask the owner for the password. Meantime, she poured out my pint of Stella Artois and paid. All the while I am left standing by the bar ... waiting. I have no idea if she called her boss. She never kept me informed. I felt I was being ignored. When after a good 15 minutes I asked if she got the p/w she yelled at me, said she WhatsApped her boss and hadn't heard back from her. Unprovoked, she suddenly took my beer away and asked me to leave. Just leave, which I did, not wanting to create a scene. As far as I know, I was not being rude to her. Just anxious. We were expecting news from our children. Definitely not a nice way to treat your customers. Not impressed. Not impressed at all. This hapoened on Monday 28 August...

When I tried to close our TAB at the end of the night, one of the younger chubby curly thick long hair blonde bartenders gave us a very rude attitude saying she already closed out my TAB, which obviously wasn’t true. After much arguing we find out she closed my TAB with the wrong person and gave my card to him. He had the same bank card as me. I was playing pool with him and found out. I understand mistakes happen and went back to the bar to tip her anyway because I’m a nice guy… instead of apologizing for her mistake, she made a rude, sarcastic remark, and walks off. WOW. Rude and frankly unprofessional behavior. They need to treat your customers with more respect and not lose...
