I was in Kanab with my daughters and decided to eat at Houston's after looking at the menu and seeing that it had good reviews. We walked over there and checked in. The hostess at the front didn't give us a time but took my name down. The front lobby area had a bench and then a counter. Everything was full and with Covid we decided to step outside. We sat on the bench right next to the door. We waited there for about 10 minutes and then decided to go back in to see how much longer. The hostess was not there and the bench was empty so we took a seat there. We she came back she saw us and grabbed some menus and made a comment about us coming back. She then said follow her and she took off. My daughters literally needed to run in order to keep up with her. In her hurry the silverware she was carrying went flying out of the napkin nearly hitting someone sitting at a booth. She got to a back room I guess for overflow and we were seated in a dark corner at a table for 6 and there were only 3 of us. There were empty booths in the main dining area and there were empty tables for 4 in the overflow. It ultimately was just a very uncomfortable spot. She put the 2 things of silverware she had left on the table and walked away. We sat there for about 10 minutes when our waitress finally showed up and without introducing herself or greeting us in anyway just said bluntly said what do you want. Mind you we hadn't even ordered drinks or anything yet. So we told her what drinks we wanted and our food choices. About 5 minutes later she comes back with our drinks and the hostess was with her and brought us water. I ordered lemonade and it was completely watered down. Not the waitresses fault that the machine was out of the mixture. However we didn't see her again until she brought us our food. Then I asked for the raspberry lemonade instead and informed her the regular lemonade was really watered down. She rolled her eyes and walked away. She surprisingly did bring me a new drink but did so without a word. We finished eating, my oldest didn't care for her food due to it being to spicy. So when the waitress asked if she wanted a box she said no it was to spicy. I wasn't paying attention but when the waitress walked away my daughter said she must have made the waitress mad. I asked her why and my daughter said the waitress rolled her eyes and shook her head when she said she didn't want a box because the food was spicy. This was by far the worst experience I have ever had a restaurant. For whatever reason I still left her a $5 (10%) tip because we did get some service regardless of how bad it was. I know we will be avoiding this place on our future trips to this area. My daughters were literally talking about how horrible it was there for the next 2 days and compared every restaurant we went to after that to Houston's and always said at least they treat us...
Read moreWe were looking for a place to eat lunch after our guided tour. We are not from this town, so apparently a lot of places don't offer indoor sitting until 4 pm or so, and it was raining. We were soaked by the time we got to the restaurant. The wait to be seated wasn't long even though we had 2 parties in front of us. All we wanted is hot coffee and hot soup to warm up. The teenage boy who took our drinks order, brought coffee that was barely warm and spilled water in front of me on the table. Then our waitress came and took our order. She wasn't rude, but wasn't friendly either. She took our order and left. I needed to wipe the table , but we didn't have utensils or napkins on the table. We were able to ask the waitress for utensils and I felt bad asking her for a hot coffee, but I was freezing, so as she was walking away I got enough courage to ask her for hot coffee. I was polite and said please and sorry to have bothered you. And she rolled her eyes as she was walking away. WTH? She brought our food and that's THE LAST we saw of her. She didn't check on us once, even though we needed straws and to go box. She came dropped the check on our table and left. Didn't even ask if we needed anything. We had to flag another waitress to ask for a to go box. I mean, come on! We were tired and cold and hungry. We didn't complain, we weren't rude. I really don't understand her attitude towards our group. I'm definitely never going back and won't be advising anyone who asks for recommendations for a food place in Kanab to visit this restaurant. Attitude matters in a hospitality business. I worked as a waitress in Miami, Vegas and Salt Lake City. I have years of experience. I've NEVER been this rude to anyone. Even if she has a bad day, she shouldn't take it out on...
Read moreI stopped in one day for the first time and enjoyed their double cheeseburger with house fries. Today I stopped in because I didn’t have room for pie last time. I love a good coconut cream, and this one did not disappoint. This in-house-made pie is custardy with lots of whipped cream and made with actual shredded coconut throughout. The crust was so flaky. I took this one to go up 89 near Hog Canyon to enjoy. So my last chance to try the chocolate cream pie before they close for the 2023 season. It too is made in house as well. So good 🫶🏼. For a visit both short and sweet, thank you for the good food and pie.
August 8th 2025 So I’m back after nearly 2 years. I was really hoping the pies would be just as good as they were the previous times. They are the same. The coconut cream is my favorite, and if you order any of the cream pies, you better be into whipped cream 😳🤣.. literally💙. Staff is still just as friendly. Their food is amazing as well. I use this place for my decadent craving sweet tooth. I’m Yet to find any pie that comes close to theirs. I’ve been to Oregon and back. In the end, I have found the best place to enjoy this decadent coconut cream pie is out amongst the red rock of this beautiful desert location. Gotta...
