Read moreMonday evening about 6:00pm went to the Rocking V Cafe Kanab, Utah website to join the waitlist for dinner. I was unable to use this function because the website said "Come on in there is no wait." My husband and I grabbed our coats and headed to the Cafe. The Cafe was less than a 5 minute drive. We walk in and I'm told there is a wait list. We would be 5th in line. I question this and am told the other guest must have jumped on the waitlist in the 5 minutes it took us to drive to the Cafe. We are waiting on a bench inside when a party of 3 come in. They ask if there is a wait. They are told no we will clean this table (just vacated) and it's yours. The guest sees us sitting and asks "Oh are you waiting for a table?". I say yes. She says to the hostess you don't have to seat us they are waiting. She says "They can wait." And then she sat them at the table. Clearly they were a friend. POOR example of customer service. I hope the owner sees this review. I doubt the hostess was the owner. UPDATE: Well the hostess was not the owner but as luck would have it one of the owners/manager came to the hostess stand and asked how we were doing. It was a friendly, casual comment. My husband walked him thru our experience thus far. Hostess returned, denied it all. He said we would be seated next. We were not, two other parties of two were seated by the hostess before us. I'm not sure why we didn't leave and really wish we had. The food was over-priced, mediocre at best and my dish had a piece of wood in it. Wood? How does that happen? However the best part of the evening, which almost made the rest of the evening worth it again happened with the hostess. A couple comes in and asks how long for a table for two. They were told at least an hour, hostess "couldn't really say". They say I see you have several empty tables outdoors could we sit at one of those? The hostess says "Do you have a dog?" Potential customer "Excuse me?". Hostess "You have to have a dog to sit outside." Potential customers and my husband and I laugh out loud. Hostess "Not joking". Potential customer "We have one in our hotel room." Hostess "Maybe you should have brought it". Potential customers no longer customers of any kind. They don't know that leaving the dog behind saved them from purchasing an expensive meal that would not have been fit...
Read moreTwelve archaeologists stumbled into town after three days of intense off trail hiking and the Rocking V Cafe quickly became our Valhalla stocked with refreshing milk and sweet, sweet honey. Not actual milk and honey; that’s a metaphor, for heaven’s sake. But the food and drink options here are absolutely phenomenal, worthy of a Viking feast after a long and difficult session of plundering and pillaging.
For the first time in my life I was presented with a food menu where every entree available spoke to me personally. I had a very difficult time deciding what to eat, yet, hypocritically, deciding what to eat was no chore at all. Everything sounded so good that I didn’t regret my decision for a millisecond.
On my first night I chose the Magic Mushroom Madness, a delectable grilled portobello mushroom sandwich that was to die for. The mashed potato side was hefty and tasty, although a pinch under seasoned. I recommend more butter, salt, or a little dill.
On my second visit I ordered the Deep Dish Grilled Veggie Enchilada, and OMG it was phenomenal. Best enchilada I’ve ever eaten? Perhaps. And I’ve had a plethora of enchiladas in my time. Not traditional, by any means, but it paid the perfect tribute to this stalwart traditional Mexican dish.
I’ve literally waited years to try this place and I’m so glad I finally had the opportunity. This might very well be my favorite restaurant on planet earth. The service was fantastic, the ambience is homey and inviting, and the food is, in my opinion, worthy of a Michelin star.
My only gripe is the goddamn raven on the men’s restroom. I was dumbfounded while looking for the toilet, seeing the obvious “W” on the women’s water closet and finding a locked door next to it with a raven on it. So I pissed in the women’s restroom, apparently, not knowing that a raven somehow represented us men. I felt stupid and confused, but I definitely wasn’t the only one. Fix that and the Rocking V Cafe might become the Center of the...
