If you’re looking for a new favorite spot in the Crossroads, look no further than Kon Tiki, the vibrant new libations and taco eatery that has taken Kansas City by storm. The moment you step through the door, you’re enveloped in a lively atmosphere that’s equal parts island escape and urban chic.
The interior of Kon Tiki is a masterclass in ambiance. With its eclectic mix of tropical decor, warm lighting, and modern touches, the space is inviting and buzzing with energy. It’s perfect for a casual dinner, a fun night out with friends, or even a spontaneous date night.
But let’s talk about the real star here—the food and drinks. Kon Tiki’s menu is an absolute revelation. The tacos are unlike anything I’ve tasted in KC, each one bursting with unique flavors and fresh ingredients. From the succulent, perfectly marinated carne asada to the bold and zesty shrimp tacos, every bite transports you to a culinary paradise. Don’t skip the vegetarian options, either—the squash taco 🌮 is delightfully tasty.
And then there are the libations. The mixologists at Kon Tiki have truly outdone themselves, crafting a cocktail menu that’s inventive and irresistible. Their signature tiki-inspired drinks are the ideal complement to the menu’s vibrant flavors. Whether you’re in the mood for a classic Mai Tai or something more adventurous like their “Pele Paloma” (a refreshing blend of grapefruit juice and spirits), every sip feels like a mini-vacation.
Service at Kon Tiki is top-notch as well. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and genuinely passionate about what they do. They’re always happy to make recommendations and ensure that everyone feels welcome and taken care of.
All in all, Kon Tiki is a stellar addition to the Crossroads scene, effortlessly blending creative cuisine, inspired cocktails, and a welcoming atmosphere. It’s not just a place to eat—it’s a destination. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, make sure to put Kon Tiki at the top of your list. You won’t be...
Read moreOur group of six always loves, trying, funding cocktail bars. However, will definitely not be returning to this. The menu that was given to us however, the staff did not seem to be educated about their menu and what they were out of other things were brought to us and when we looked confused, they looked at us. We were the ones and just said yeah we’re out of that although no one told us that when we ordered it? Then the frozen drinks that we ordered came out to us and they just said yeah our machine is acting up right now and walked away. So I asked to send my drinks back because they were terrible and not what I ordered and decided to order something else. However, I was still charged for the drink that I did not even drink and I informed them were incorrect and what was on the menu Was not even what they brought me. I never got the drink that I ordered instead of the frozen drinks that turned out to be dun-drinkable, I never even received that order and yet I was still charged for the flight that I did not even drink. It is so frustrating because it has a cute vibe. It could be promising, but there’s no sense of customer service feeling like we did wrong sorry we didn’t communicate with you. We were out and just brought you something else instead and when you order a frozen drink and it didn’t even come out frozen syrup, let us off and we want to have a good experience. There was none of that was just ordered it. Yeah we didn’t tell you. We’re out of this and yeah, it’s not our best right now. It’s kind of shitty but we’re still gonna charge you anyways. Very sad to say this did not leave a good impression and we would not recommend this to any of our friends...
Read moreI recently visited Kon Tiki and, unfortunately, the drinks were quite underwhelming.
Mai Tai: The orgeat (almond syrup) had a bitter taste, giving the entire drink an unpleasant undertone. I couldn't taste the punch from the dark rum either. Whether it was supposed to be a float or mixed in, the bold flavor of the dark rum was missing.
Pain Killer: This drink was also disappointing. The cream of coconut and pineapple juice should create a smooth texture when shaken with ice due to the aeration, but this drink lacked that. The overproof plantation rum should have held up against the dilution from the juices and ice, but the flavors just didn't come through.
Siren's Song: This was the most disappointing drink of the night. It tasted like Grenadine in water, even though there was no Grenadine in it. The orange notes of the Cointreau were absent, and the drink overall was pretty bland.
KonTiki: The only good drink was their signature Kon Tiki, and the sweetness probably saved it from being a failure.
On a positive note, the decor and vibes were on point, and the staff were really warm and accommodating. I haven't tried the tacos yet, but I plan to on my next visit. Despite the disappointing drinks, I'm willing to give Kon Tiki another shot on a less busy day. Hopefully, I'll get to enjoy some amazing Tiki drinks and update this review...
