Impressive Small Concert Venue, Perfect KC Location. The Record Bar is a small concert venue in Kansas City within walking distance of major local hotels and other events venues and restaurants of downtown KC. If you stay at a hotel like the Courtyard by Marriott Kansas City Downtown/Convention Center, you’re within just a few blocks of easy walking to the venue. The venue has a small outdoor seating area which turned out to be fortuitous as I waited under the awning out of the drizzle early before the doors opened. The door staff were incredibly friendly and efficient in checking IDs, issuing wristbands, and checking tickets—really, some of the nicest and engaged security folks I’ve encountered at a venue. I was surprised to see a variety of seating options around the open dance floor on the main level and some seating on a balcony above—as someone who likes to sit during concerts, I really appreciated the seating. Hint: the seating is limited, so get there early to stake your claim. The stage is small, but the combination of stage, floorspace, and balcony created a nice, intimate space to view the band. I went to see The Church, a band I’ve seen live other times in other venues and cities. The staging and sound at the Record Bar were the best I’ve witnessed for this band. There was a long bar with very busy, efficient, and skilled bartenders—I really appreciated the professionalism and hustle of these staff. There were also some staff roaming to collect glasses, plates, and trash—very friendly and efficient and a nice touch. If you want food, you order/pay at the bar, get a buzzer, and go to the food window when your buzzer goes off—very efficient process for a club. The menu and the food were pretty good—I was surprised at the quality. Overall, the prices were extremely good; food, drinks, and tickets were reasonably and accurately priced. The crowd was young, friendly, and were by-in-large there just to have a good time—a good vibe at this venue. Overall, I rate Record Bar as a terrific value for small club intimacy, fantastic staff, well run processes/services, great combo of seating/stage/lighting, good food, and great prices. I’ll be looking forward for my next opportunity to attend a concert at the Record Bar. Highly...
Read moreWas so excited to win tickets. All the info said doors open at 6 and show starts at 7. I arrive at 6PM and am only one woman standing alone and the doors are locked. Manager sees me from inside but doesn't bother to tell me the times have now changed, doesn't even acknowledge me. I call them I am by myself standing outside and doors are locked. NOW he tells me I am wrong. The doors don't open till 7 and show starts at 8. i reiterate that I'm alone outside and have parked many blocks away. He told me to go somewhere and have a drink or go back to my car. Yes! He actually said that! Now some people are arriving also having seen the same info as I. One man said I should have read the reviews, that they do this all the time to customers. Someone realized the door is now unlocked and we all go in. The manager (RUDEST I've EVER encountered) starts yelling at us, telling us we are wrong. Tells one customer who tried to advise him of the listed times we all saw and he starts yelling at HER now and tells her to leave and that she won't be allowed back in. WHAT?!?! I've never encountered anything like this. We all go back outside and several of us left. I will never return and caution anyone else to not trust the times and not to expect to be treated well. Quite obviously safety of your customers is of NO concern to you. And they impression you give that I didn't treat any employee respectfully is absurd. I had very little contact with anyone except to say that I was a single woman standing out on the sidewalk alone. I was the one, among others that was treated disreputably. Poor way to run a business; Beware anyone going here. Times are often not correct and they don't take any...
Read moreMy daughter and I drove down to this venue from central Iowa on October 16th, to see a group that she had previously seen on the Van's Warped Tour (Yungblud).
This place could give lessons to the places we have like this in the Des Moines area! The Record Bar was clean, the restrooms were impressive (and clean). The food was awesome; I had the chicken fingers and fries. The other folks who attended the show were really cool and friendly. I met several nice people from St. Louis and Cameron, too.
About halfway into the main acts gig, my daughter had passed out because of the crowding in front of the stage. To the band's credit (and their crew), they immediately stopped the show, pulled her up across the stage, and to the back to get her some water and air. At this point the staff of this place also sprang into action to help out as well. They made sure she had plenty of water, got her something to eat, and repeatedly checked on her condition. This means more to me than anything else. Too many places, I'd venture to say, couldn't have cared less when something like this happens. I know, I've seen it too many times. This staff went above and beyond, however.
To the owner; you've got an excellent staff! To the staff; a million thanks - you guys...
