The Cigar Box used to be a favorite place for lunch and nice dining experiences at dinner for us and many of our friends and relatives. Something changed a while back. No longer open for lunch. Kitchen doesn't open until 5:00. Last couple times we went there for dinner, food things we wanted, they were out of. No longer offered 2 for 1 drinks at happy hour, but as of 7/12/19 it still has happy hour info on the same menu they have had for several years. 4 of us gave it another try last night. We were there from 4:45 to about 6:30. A Friday night and we were the only people eating? And maybe 5 other people in the place at the bar? Food was just not as good as it used to be. We used to get their stuffed mushrooms all the time. Big oversized mushrooms. Last night there was one large mushroom and three tiny mushrooms on the plate? What's up with that??? Pitiful. Salads used to be on nice sized salad plate with walnuts. Now on small plate, no nuts and last night there was a few pieces of old wilted lettuce on my plate. My steak parmesan was so over cooked it was hard to cut and tough to chew. Chicken Paula was dry. Wife asked for maybe some lemonada sauce and they said a small dish of sauce would be $5. They are trying to get people to not eat there! The people we went with last night used to like going here too. We gave it one more chance and left saying we will never go back. We used to buy multiple gift certificates here for Christmas gifts to people. We loved this place for a great meal. It's obvious the owner and or manager has lost interest in the food part of the business in the past year. Apparently they decided to cater more towards the late night drinking crowd. We...
Read moreWe honestly were surprised that is was not better. Recently there is a lot little places opening up in downtown. We have slowly been making our way around them all. While Cigar Box has been open a very long time it made our list. The bar is easy to with a large sign out front. That alone was nice as most of the other places try to be "hidden". The bar is more long than it is large. The bar top makes up about half of the seating area. During our time there the var stayed relatively busy. There were clearly regulars in the bar eat and drinking as they seemed to be "fixtures" almost. The staff while nice seemed distracted most of the time we were there. They were not busy at all most bar patrons. Overall the biggest let down was the food. There was a decent selection for a bar. And what they claimed to be favorites were the best of what we did have. The chicken was great and the fries were great. However everything else lacked a lot to us. Hopefully this was a fluke.
Visited Friday night at 6 pm Food was cost effective Drinks as they should be were expensive GREAT music GREAT atmosphere Staff lacked a lot to be desired Room for today's bar standards was...
Read moreWent to the cigar box on a Tuesday night for a friends birthday and had the most awful experience I have ever had at a bar. I asked if there were any Tuesday specials, and was answered with a rude "no". So I began asking what the draft beer prices were - which seemed like a huge chore for this bartender. I decided to get a domestic beer and proceeded to ask if hehad any suggestions for a birthday shot and got a snarky "not on Tuesdays - especially not for someone who got a cheap beer." He was very judgemental and rude to me from the beginning. We were going to all get birthday shooters, but I didn't want to spend one more penny or minute in there.
Before that, I had gone to the Cigar Box on a Saturday, where they had very friendly bartenders (not the Tuesday night guy) who helped me out immediately. We had a wonderful night with the live singing and entertainment. I was so excited to show new people this place to make it their favorite place too, but they were left with a sour taste in their mouth from the awful service we received -...
