First off, my husband and actually my entire family really like and enjoy capital grille or used to.. This review is based on our most recent experience.
My husband and I arrived with 2 other friends for our dinner reservation during restaurant week. But it was also a birthday celebration for my husband and we had noted that on our reservation.
We had requested a high chair for our friends baby, and the hostess seemed very rude and made us feel like that was quite an inconvenience. Once we got through this adversity with the hostess, we were walking to the table with another hostess and her outfit didn’t really seem like what you’d see in a higher class restaurant but to each their own. Once being sat, we asked for another restaurant week menu as several in our party didn’t have one. This again, was a huge inconvenience. She responded in the most unhelpful way, essentially telling us it wasn’t her job and to ask our server. So far this dinner is not going as you’d expect in a 5 star restaurant.
So then comes our server, first impression was that she was a bit slow and not confident.. We ordered two alcoholic drinks and they took around 20 minutes to come out, we were hungry and ready to fully order by the time we saw her again. She was a very inattentive waitress and frankly didn’t seem like she could contribute much to the experience. Every single food item took a very long time to come out, and she was also MIA for most of the evening. Our table even started wondering if she had quit because it took so long for her to come to our table at one point (well several points).
Now for the food: the steak we ordered was overall chewy and lacked flavor. The drinks were “ok” not as good as we remembered. Maybe the overall atmosphere was contributing- but who knows. There really wasn’t any dish that was memorable. Overall I would not recommend this location, it was an embarrassment to the establishment if you ask me.
They didn’t do anything special for my husbands birthday and never even acknowledged it even though there was a card on the table. Just disappointing.
My recommendation as someone who has experienced higher class restaurants, hire people who want to serve and give the best experience to your patrons. Go the extra mile in...

Read moreAs a life-long Kansas Citian, I am embarrassed to share that I enjoyed my first meal at Capital Grille this last week. My husband and I celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary at Capital Grille and we were BLOWN away by the incredible food, service and atmosphere. While our reservation was a 7:30pm and we had arrived about 5-10 minutes early, we didn't get seated until 20-30 minutes after our reservation. This was no big deal to me as I have previously worked in the restaurant industry (as a hostess on the Plaza) and understand the intricacies of coordinating reservations/open-tables/walk-ins during busy times. The service MORE than made up for our initial wait time. Our server was Brooke and she made the experience so enjoyable. Her demeanor is professional but not stuffy and she really put us at ease as first-timers. She even made some great suggestions regarding portion sizes and brought out a sample of the new Doli vodka drink (pineapple infused vodka) which tasted incredible. We appreciated the complimentary anniversary desert that included a gluten free, egg free flourless chocolate torte! As someone with multiple food allergies, I felt very safe eating here and cannot wait to return! We also appreciated that the acoustics of the restaurant made conversation easier for those who are hard of hearing (the restaurant is carpeted and the ambient music is not too loud). I liked that the dining room was separate from the bar which also lends it self to easier conversation. There happened to be a private party disbanding the back room which is right near the restrooms and I did end up getting awkwardly stuck in the crowd for about 2 minutes while trying to walk back to my table from the restroom. You will not find a better steak and better service than...
