Chuy's — Restaurant in Katy

My husband and I were in last night. We usually go a couple times a month, love us some queso covered burittos. Usually everything is pretty good which is why I'm leaving 3 stars instead of 1, as we will be back. But last night our server was horrible. We first thought he was over whelmed but sadly no it looked like he had 3 tables, us, a table of 4 that seemed to be finishing up and a table of 5 that sat down just after us. It became clear pretty quick he had judged us from the moment we sat down that he's wasn't going to make a big tip off us. He dropped off chips and dips and took our drink order, never gave us his name just asked what we wanted to drink, then when he dropped off our drinks he took our appetizer order and food order and we never saw him again. Our queso was dropped off by another waiter at the same time our chips were empty and even though I tried multiple times to flag our waiter down including holding the empty chip basket up he never came back despit looking at us several times. The table of five next to us was apparently the important table as he never left their side. A different waiter that brought our food and refilled our chips so we could eat our now cold queso. Our food was brought to the table at room temperature, which told us it had been sitting in the window for some time. Our waiter never came to ask how the food was or check on us. When we finished we waited for our check to come but again our waiter was standing by for his table of 5, which chips and drinks had been refilled at this point for them. My husband ended up asking yet another waiter for a manager so we could pay and leave. In the 50 minister we were there we saw our waiter 2 times and only in the first 5 minutes. I wish we had got his name. We will definitely not sit in his area again. Last night he was next to the patio. I work retail so we usually take good care of people knowing how stressfull the job can be. Last night was pretty clear we were not on his prioity...

Food was great, service…not so much. They sat at us two different shaped tables pushed together. We’re a party of six and they seated us at a round table pushed next to a square table. It was a very awkward setup, and uncomfortable for the people in the middle. That alone isn’t a big deal nor is it review worthy but since I’m leaving a review I figured I’d throw that in there. What I really came to leave a review about was the rude lady who served us our food. She threw the food at us, rolled her eyes and huffed when we asked for silverware, failed to get us the silverware twice, and ultimately asked another waitstaff to grab it for us. I usually don’t like to claim racism but I genuinely think that’s what it was given in this case given how rude she was for absolutely zero reason yet didn’t seem to be this rude to other patrons. She only became “nicer” when she heard us talking amongst ourselves that someone like her should be reported to the manager. Also, cherry on top was the fact that she had long nails that were sitting on our food. FDA regulations state that food serve workers should have short and clean cut nails. Being served food by waitstaff whose long and unsanitary nails are sitting in your plate is a HUGE health concern. Wait staff in question had reddish brown curly hair tied back in a ponytail. Let’s just dive right in. It’s a flat two stars for me. Service was just okay. Calling in to order was a bit iffy, there was a bit of rude tainted with a bit of rush. The fact that service isn’t good matching the fact that the food wasn’t good was very disappointing. I’m not sure how important places like this are to Texas but as a visitor it’s definitely a no for me, would not recommend. They did get the order correct so point for that but service and taste wise epic fail. It’s not authentic Mexican at all. How do you mess up plain old Mexican or Spanish rice at a Mexican restaurant is beyond me. It’s flavorless really and should definitely be less costly all things considered. I can appreciate that they work pretty quickly on prepping but hell at the expense of giving out bad tasting food they get no points for that in my book. I would not recommend this place not even if you’re starving lol, and if this is your only option my second star is for the French fries because everything else was beneath standard. The ordering process was so rushed you’d think the food was going to be fire the way I was hurried off the phone and then had to call in again to make a second order because we were a nice sized group at the time.
