I go here often alone and have no issues. I was out with my family today and we called them to find out what time we needed to be there to have their lunch AYCE and the person who answered the phone said 3pm. We arrived at 2:30pm and I was greeted by someone who immediately told us that once it is past 3:30pm we could not order from their lunch menu any longer.
I was confused because I always thought if you were there before their lunch hour cut off time you can continue to order from the lunch menu. We were not planning to order from their dinner menu, because if we did we would come during dinner hours. Honestly, I don't even think we would have taken a whole hour to eat, but I didn't like the fact that we were being forced to either pay the dinner price or leave at 3:30pm, because they would not serve us from the lunch AYCE menu anymore even though we got there at 2:30pm.
I was upset and we left and went down the road to a place called Taizzi, and because of this experience I called them and asked when the cut off time for their lunch AYCE was. The man told me the same thing at 3pm. So we drove there and got there at 2:50pm and because we arrived during their lunch hours, they allowed us to order from their lunch menu past 4pm, because we were out as a family with the kids and we enjoyed hanging out and talking as we ate.
We left Taizzi around 4:15pm very satisfied with the service and the food. I will never bring my family back to Sushi-Ichii based on their AYCE policy. We spent well over $100 including an 18% tip at Taizzi. Imagine arriving at Sushi-Ichii at 2:50pm which is within their advertised lunch hours, and they will not allow you to order anymore food (which takes them 10-20 minutes to bring to your table) at 3:30pm unless you pay the dinner price even if you ONLY WANT TO ORDER FROM THEIR LUNCH MENU! The point is you got there during their lunch hour so they can't force you to order from the dinner menu if you don't want dinner items! Just an FYI if you get there close to...
Read moreThis restaurant spot was formerly Nagoya which had been there for the longest and I will miss it. The current restaurant opened recently had a nice modern feel and love the decor especially sitting in the booth looking at the transition color change.
We decided to order off the regular menu instead of AYCE menu as we were on a time crunch. Here was what we had ordered:
Luna tuna - delicious and freshly minced tuna which was mixed with fried panko and thinly sliced jalapeno on top dotted with Sriracha and drizzle with mayo on top; love it the combination of everything
Texan roll - again minced tuna in the middle with a slice of salmon on top drizzle with mayo....I am thinking there was a theme of drizzling mayo. It would have been nice to change up the drizzle topping :-)
We also ordered off the lunch menu which was served with ginger dressing salad and soup:
Tofu Teriyaki Kitchen Box - the tofu was fried drizzled with teriyaki sauce served on a bed of iceberg lettuce with a side of steamed vegetables, 4 pieces of California roll, 1 fried gyoza, 1 fried crab rangoon and fried rice. I like tofu but it was a bit bland even with the sauce. The fried rice was dry however it had a good flavor. The steamed vegetables was plain and lacked seasoning so I would recommend asking for the teriyaki sauce even though I can eat it plain without seasoning.
Steak and salmon hibachi - served with fried rice which was a bit on the dry side. The steak was a bit chewy but the salmon pieces were decent.
Overall I would give it 4.5 stars but if you come to a sushi restaurant I would just order just sushi related items(make a note to myself). The waitress was nice and attentive. She explained the menu and was very cordial. Next time I would try the AYCE for $18.99 when I am not...
Read moreHonestly, food and service has gotten worse everytime I go here but it’s fine. Except when I got sat, a workers kid ran behind us and when the server left, she left the kid and went to another table with other servers to clean it off. She left me with this random, unattended kid, actively playing with the menu on my table. I had to ask them whose kid this way in order for them to remove the unattended 3 year old from my table. I understand not having childcare and needing to work but not providing the child with entertainment and letting it run around the restaurant, touching tables with people sitting there, and not doing anything until being asked is CRAZY. I unfortunately am coming to pay $30+ on sushi, not to babysit.
Edit: I want to clarify that I never once blamed the child. My review was directed at the adults responsible for supervising him. I completely understand the challenges of balancing work and childcare, and I sympathize with any parent who has to bring their child to work. However, leaving a young child unattended at a customer’s table, touching menus, crosses a line of professional responsibility.
My “high expectations for a child” are actually high expectations for a business. I didn’t have any issue with the child being present or occasionally moving around the restaurant. My concern was about the lack of supervision and accountability from staff.
It’s unfortunate that the response to my review tried to guilt me rather than acknowledge the situation. I never faulted a mother for bringing her child to work. I only pointed out that customers shouldn’t be placed in the position of managing an unattended child. Holding a business to a reasonable standard of professionalism shouldn’t be...
