I have been eating at pho bo ne ever since it opened, and the food has always been pleasant and good service. But I am sharing a recent experience that got me to leave this not so great review. As yall know, this years inflation has gotten everything raising prices so much it was almost painful to go to some places. Yummy pho was no exception but it kept certain food quality and service and also the 5 star rewards program that keeps offering discounts that got me going back. The other day, my whole family of 4 were there for lunch. We ordered a pho and a rice plate to share (kids are 4 and 6 and can share a dish with the adults), on the rice plate, the server even asked us if we wanted plain rice or fried rice, and we said plain rice. When everything came out, it was 2 pho bowls, so we had to return one of them. The server did come and apologized to us for the honest mistake. What was really interesting was when i went to the cashier and tried to pay for my order. The female cashier mentioned nothing about rewards (whereas before they would ask you for your rewards phone number to not only look at your discount but also to keep recording your reward points for this bill), and tried to make me pay for the full amount. I told her i have rewards, and after she typed in the phone number she asked me “(another persons name), are you him?” Even after I repeatedly told her no i am not that person, she just ignored me and told me I have no rewards. It is obvious there is no rewards since you just used a bogus account thats not me! So i took my phone out and showed her the message 5 star rewards sent me. As she was reading it out she still tried to deny the rewards by saying “your rewards expired….” then corrected herself “…not until 7/24.” I had to give her my phone number very slowly again and she looked unhappy as she applied my discount. This kind of behavior is obviously unacceptable to any customer. If you feel like giving out discount hurts your profit too much then dont offer any rewards at all instead of deliberately conning customers into not use their rewards so you can profit more! There are plenty of times I dined at your restaurant without using rewards, and tipped (a pho restaurant that offers pay at the counter is usually a no tip place by default). But after this incident, I am not so...
Read moreEver since Katy asiatown opened up, it's been so packed! I was craving steak and eggs and normally, I'd have to go to Bellaire for this. Finally, they opened this place! Four stars going strong! although it was busy, I was given wonderful service. I was able to put my name down on the list and once my table was ready, they walked me over and their smile never left their faces.
I started off with egg rolls. They are very typical, traditional Vietnamese egg rolls with the taro in it. I enjoyed it but I don't think it's a hit for most. I came with a couple of friends and they preferred it to be meaty-er if that's a word. The exterior was light and crispy, but it was lacking a little flavor.I would give this a three out of five.
I got #12 pho. At the time, I was sick. I think the broth was extremely flavorful. Normally, when i go to any ordinary pho shop, I need to add hoisin sauce or sriracha to add some flavor. This place was on the money! All it needed was a little lime and bean sprouts. I requested for the bean sprouts to be steamed, Unfortunately they did not bring them out that way. Because it was so busy I did not ask them again. Overall, the meats are cooked perfectly, they were not rubbish nor over cooked. 4/5
I also got the oxtails, I was a little disappointed because of the size. Our waiter had to check if they had more in the back, and they did but they were tiny!! Also, I've made oxtail soup before, it felt like the oxtails were not cooked enough. Normally they fall off the bone and instead, I had to constantly bite at it ferociously to get the meat! The soup was very good though! 3/5
My boyfriend got the pho special and from the looks of it, it was way too much meat! I assume it was intentional, but it was so overwhelming even to look at! He didn't even finish half because it was so much! The soup and everything else was very good. Four to five.
My friend got the traditional bo ne with Spam! Wow oh wow, he let me take a bite and it is jam-packed with flavor! The egg was definitely cooked perfectly, the steak was tender, this spam was salty enough. Overall, with the mayonnaise and the Pate, 5 out of 5! The only thing that I would probably request is that the plate was sizzling. It came out just steaming.
Great place to go. It was very clean when I went and the food was quality! I will...
Read moreIt is hard for me to rate this restaurant because it is a clean establishment with good customer service, but I feel it needs to be more authentic. Their Bun Bo Hue is more like the restaurants in Katy than on Bellaire Blvd, not enough lemon grass and the other seasonings that set Bun Bo Hue apart from Pho. Their Pho is good and I really do like the idea of including a beef rib in the Pho. It is a fresh take on Pho and certainly will make it stand out from all the other Pho restaurants in Katy. The fish sauce was delicious. Let me tell you really good fish sauce can turn anything great. Their fried egg rolls were another highlight especially dunked in the fish sauce provided. Now to the tough part..their Bo Ne. If I have never had it before in Vietnam or Bellaire I would say it was very tasty, but the overall experience just lacks a wow factor. The beef is cook and seasoned well enough with ample sauce/beef drippings to dip your bread in, but the butter and pate leave something to be desired. There really should be two eggs in the dish. The spam just seems out of place to me on the dish and I love spam. Maybe offer the beef along with two eggs and a Vietnamese meatball. Also they should have hot Vietnamese coffee since Bo Ne and Pho are usually eaten at breakfast. When I went there the the past two times I asked for it and was told they do not serve hot coffee. Trung Nguyen should be pretty standard at any Vietnamese restaurant. Again, good food if you have not had this kind of food before, but if you have you will leave wanting more. I hope that some changes for the better are made because I would really like to make this a "usual" place to eat at with my wife instead of driving to Bellaire all the time. It certainly has a lot of potential. 3.5/5 stars for me as...
