Asian dining options in the Katy area continue to expand, thanks in no small part to the opening of Katy Asian Town. There are all sorts of fun dining options to be found here and one of our family favorites is Zake Sushi Lounge, also known as Zake Sushi & Ramen.
The interior of this restaurant is larger than expected and it maintains a nice, cool, home- like vibe. It is reasonably quiet, too, and this especially true if you get one of the corner spaces, reserved for larger parties of 5 or more. You can easily hear each other while you chat and eat. The light fixtures are cool, too, and add to the vibe.
With food, this restaurant serves up a large selection of appetizers and we often start by ordering the spring rolls. For the main course, you can select among sushi rolls, ramen noodle bowls, 2- piece nigiri, and other choices.
I like the food served at Zake Sushi & Ramen and have found most all of it to my liking. My other family members feel the same way. I also like that they offer several non- seafood options, since I don’t really like seafood that much. The servings are usually moderate in size and can be finished in a single visit, but there is one exception, and that is the Bento boxes. It will take time to finish these large and varied meals and there is a good chance you will end up taking food home with you.
For drinks, Zake Sushi & Ramen has a handful of beers, sake, wine, etc. I love Thai tea and this is what I usually order when I visit. I found the service good, too, and I like that they present a fork in addition to chopsticks, since many people do not like or cannot properly use chopsticks.
Katy Asian Town is a great addition to the Katy, Texas area. Zake Sushi & Ramen is a great place for Japanese food and it’s a restaurant...
Read moreThe restaurant my group wanted to go to had a wait so we decided to stop by here as there was a open table Saturday night. The place was busy as it was during a dinner rush, so it took a while to get seated. Afterwards we were seated the waiter was in a rush as it was a busy night. So we didn't expect to have great service. We were waiting for a fifth person, but expected to get our meal ordered while we waited for him. However, the waiter never came by our table after 15-20 minutes. We assumed it was because of the busy night. We finally flagged him down and ordered and our last guest arrived. We ordered 4 Texas short rib ramen, 1 duck ramen, 1 volcano roll, and 1 skydiver. The sushi was ok, but the ramen was a different story. The short ribs were tender and the only thing that saved the dish. Everyone had different ratio of noodles and broth. The broth did not taste like ramen whatsoever. It was more like a pho broth, but they called the dish ramen. My friend did not rave about her duck ramen either. We ate our food and didn't say anything as we assumed it was just a busy night. As the night winded down and the dinner rush was over, we noticed the entire restaurant was emptied. However the waiter never came by to refill our waters. He only came by to take our order and deliver the food. When we wanted to pay the bill, he was no where in sight even though there was only a couple of tables eating. We ended up going to the counter to pay and noticed he was sitting in the corner. Also, this place has a automatic 18% gratuity tip for a table of 5. I guess that's why we had such bad service. But lesson learned, never go into a restaurant that has mediocre reviews even it looks like it has business. Avoid...
Read moreTaste: I avoid this topic because we all have different palates. Only way you’ll find out that you like the taste is by consuming it yourself.
Food: Portion sizes are phenomenal.
Price range: Reasonable.
Presentation: Bento boxes, shrimp tempura appetizer, and sashimi set came out nicely. The only concern I have is with the seaweed salad, the sides of the plate were chipped. Please be careful because there will be certain individuals like myself whom will be concern if there are pieces of the plate in the meal. That is a no-no.
Service: Ordering of the meal and the time it took to come out was efficient. I did place an order for masago and another sushi item, it did not come out which was not a big concern.
Issues: It would be nice to let guests know ahead of time there will be a paid tips portion on the bill on top of additional tips that could be added by the guest. The bill was around $111.82 and the paidtips was around $20 and some change which 18%. I would decreased the tip only because of one major issue that concerns me which is personal. I attracted unwanted attention in my life, it won’t go away. Certain individuals continuously participate in that particular behavior I will not look at you with kind eyes. No such thing as coincidence. We all have to make choices some good and evil. We have to live with our sins. That major issue is what prevented your establishment from receiving a 5 star rating.
Zake Sushi Lounge, I do want your business to thrive. It can be challenging especially when there are negative comments. Do not let negative comments bring you down. Let them help you grow into a better establishment. I do appreciate...
