Located at the base of the longest gondola in North America expectations were high as we arrived for dinner. We visited 3 days before the 23/24 ski season kicked off to an almost empty bar area (we were given a choice to sit on the restaurant side). Other than a few employees talking about the upcoming season red bull TV played on a 5 minute loop on the wall and a big screen had football. I ordered the ribeye (no mention of what it came with) and my partner ordered the pulled pork tacos. I'm typically a rare steak person but a handy diagram at the table strongly urged me to order medium rare which I did. The steak came with a potato puree (I really can't call it mashed potatoes due to the texture) and "mixed vegetables" which consisted of mostly carrots and some broccoli with a great amount of garlic. I'll start with the steak, first, it was a very solid well done. No pink to be found, a solid grey. It tastes good but was unseasoned and somehow was missing any char on the outside. The steak was also served at room temperature (which was a trend with all of the food). The veggies were to be expected from previously frozen likely microwave reheated room temperature veggies. The saving grace (actually of the whole meal for me) was ample amounts of garlic on the veggies (thank you whoever's idea that was). The potato puree, my first bite my taste buds went into shock and then rebellion. "Are the potatoes, here taste" was all I could manage to my partner. She, being a mashed potato connoisseur, immediately replied she had no idea. There was something very sour and tangy that was overriding any other flavor. My guess was either Greek yogurt or too old sour cream. I asked the bartender/server and neither was on the short list ingredients so my imagination kicked in hinting at something fuzzy and much too old. The tacos.. The meat oddly had no flavor and the sauce tasted like beer and beer only. Not bad if you're a beer fan but neither of us are... The cilantro creme on top tasted like purely ground cilantro with a tiny bit of cream and something we couldn't place that made the tip of our tongues tingle and had a slight bitter spicy after taste. She took a bite, I took a bite, she sent them back to the kitchen.
Now, what was good? Welp, not good but outright amazing. First, we got the poutine to start and it exceeded expectations. If it had been a little hotter (see comment above about room temp) it would have been 10/10 but was 9/10 instead. The fries were crisp, the brown gravy was very tasty and the large cheese curds were well seasoned with a hint of spice. There was a good ratio of green onions sprinkled on the Kerry everything and tasted fantastic.
For desert we ordered the cookies and cream cake. Unfortunately they were out...
Service: the bartender/server was awesome. He was attentive and handled the issue we had with grace. I felt bad for him after we overheard him telling another employee that of the handful of tables yed had that night every one of them had problems with...
Read moreThe short version: over 90 minutes of frustration before having our receipt torn & crumpled up then thrown into the trash while being told in a passive aggressive manner that we wouldn’t be charged, hey thanks!
Long version: We came in to the front entrance and we were standing there as a customer received their to go order. The employee handed it off and the individual exited, we remained by the counter yet the employee walked off. After 3 minutes of no one returning I went over to a gentleman working in the bar and stated we would like to have dinner and sit out side, so he took us back to the restaurant side and asked the same girl that had walked off to seat us. She then told us if we wanted to be outside we had to sit on bar patio and the gentleman we talked to would be out soon to take our orders. It was as if no one wanted the responsibility of providing us with service. But reluctantly we got a table outside and the experience only went down hill from there. There was only one employee working the whole bar side (which could be overwhelming, but to be fair there were 3 people at the bar top and only 2 tables with guests.) So that being said it took 20 minutes for him to take our drink order which actually gave us time to pick our dinner orders. 10 minutes later we received 3/4 of our drinks so we reminded him of the chocolate milk we ordered. 5 minutes later he came back out but only to talk to some other guests about mountain biking and his bike shop he was opening, after a 7 minutes conversation he turned around to go back inside and I said “excuse me can we get her chocolate milk” and he just said ”ohhhh yeah she still hasn’t gotten that” and with out apology he headed inside. So we finally got our order 37 minutes after initially placing our order, only bad part was we didn’t get one of the dishes and still hadn’t received the finally drink. 54 min after placing our initial order (we had a timer running because we have had poor experiences prior at Noah’s) we finally just asked for our check and to leave. We waited a while and hadn’t got our card back so we went in to make sure it was paid. At this time we stated the food was good but this had been terrible service, the server went on a tangent of how he was alone and too busy and it was the kitchens fault that it was slow. With out apologizing once for the inconveniences he tore up the receipt crumpled the pieces and tossed it in the trash saying “ya know what then? I guess you just won’t pay for anything.” As if that was a consolation for the poor experience. We didn’t want anything for free, the food was delicious and great portions for the prices and it was an awesome atmosphere but the service left a lot to be desired and we just wanted to let that be known was all. So instead of him being understanding he became passive aggressive and dismissed the situation (thus leading to...
Read moreIt was July 12 2015. There wasn't much to like. The waitress basically bitched us out for walking in the door in the first place. She was horrible! She made it clear she was a server, covering for a late bartender, and even though there was hardly anyone in there, she was awful to everybody. She was mad her food was sitting there getting cold, she said she desperately needed a cigarette. She went on and on ranting and raving, and making customers uncomfortable. She was unbelievably rude to eveyone. She was the worst server I've ever seen in 40 years. She even yelled at a few customers, including one of my friends. It was so bad, we were afraid to ask her for another beer. Honestly, she was so ridiculous, everyone in the place was in disbelief. We were all looking at each other like "is this really happening"? Then she asked my friend how many beers he had so she could tab him out. He said 1. She charged him for 3! He was afraid to even bring this to her attention because at this point we knew she would lash out at us, for HER mistake. He eventually did, and she made such a big deal out of it, he just said he would pay for them anyway! This was by far the most horrible dining experience I've ever had. I will never return to this horribly managed place and I will make it my life's crusade to make sure nobody I know will ever set foot in Noah's Canteen. I can't believe this awful server has a job in the restaurant business at all. She needs to be fired. Even the other employees were embarrassed, but nobody did anything about it. I saw her get in tangles with many of the customers. It was quite a spectacle. Whoever manages this place, should probably be fired too. We all ordered food which was mediocre at best. My friend couldn't even eat his sandwich, but certainly wasn't going to complain, out of fear for his life. We got fries with our meals, and I'm not even kidding.........there was 11 french fries on my plate! 11! It looked liked they split my fries up onto all 3 of our plates! We dropped $60 on lunch in this place. What a...
