Garbo’s more like garbage! Ok that’s too harsh but as you can see with my rating the food was below satisfactory for us and I will break it down. PS: Sorry about the pictures I took a video and apparently you cannot upload videos so I had to take screenshots of my videos to show you the food. The last 2 pictures is where we stopped forcing ourselves to eat this very expensive sad meal. Quick back story: I always look at social media recommendations when I go somewhere new because you can see the food and you get the opinion of an assumed impartial customer. So that’s how we found Garbo’s the menu was hyped and the guy was raving about how tasty everything was. So we go there and basically went with the recommendation on the video: we ordered the Umami burger ($16), the Korean barbecue tacos (2 tacos for $16) and the one I was looking the most forward to the lobster roll (advertised as market price which basically means they can charge whatever they want and varies their prices whenever they want) since our total ended up being $75 I’m going to deduce mathematically that the lobster roll was around $30. So let’s start with the lobster roll. Again we paid $30 for what you see in this picture some slab of can seafood on a hot dog bun. For that price I was really seeing what the video showed: a luscious well seasoned well garnished full bun of delicious fresh lobster. What we got was a sad cluster of can lumps of “lobster” it looked sad and I felt duped. The tacos must have been soaked in soy sauce for a while because what you majorly tasted was that high sodium overwhelming your taste bud. Besides being overly salty, the tacos were better selection of the day for us. Finally there was nothing umami about that burger. It was just a cheese burger with bacon. And the burger was mediocre at best, meat lacked any flavor and seasoning. Now let’s talk about the service. We walked aimlessly the first five minutes trying to figure out if that place had a host or not. No one welcomed us, we ended up walking to the bar and we found out that we needed to go the truck and order our food and sit ourself wherever. So we ordered our food, went pick it up, found our own seat and also order our own drink at the bar even if its the non alcoholic drink. Oh and you also have to go back the the bar for soda refill. So all the waitress walking around were just for show? Or maybe they are all bartenders. Either way there was no service but they still wanted a 18% and up tip. We tipped 18% by the way. The atmosphere was nice though. They had live music and we managed to find a seat inside so we were cool (it was over 90 degrees outside) In conclusion. I do not recommend this place and I think that reviewer on social media was paid for his reviews and his plate was made to look a lot better than any average...
Read moreCame here for dinner during our first evening in town. We walked right up to it just off of Duval Street and had no idea it was attached to a bar with live music going on. A pleasant surprise. So we found a table, got some drinks, and then came over to order some grub.
We started off with the Yum Yum Shrimp Burrito (house made mango ginger habanero glazed shrimp, served Cayo Style (red cabbage, mango, onion, jalapeno, cilantro, and our house Caribbean sauce)).
This thing was massive. And it was delicious. Massively delicious. Good amount of shrimp in there, cooked well, with a sweet heat from the glaze, beautiful. Lots of veg inside, too, but not too much, everything had it's purpose. Crunchy red cabbage, bite from the onion, heat from the jalapeno, it was just very good. Get this.
Next came the UmamiBurger (1/2lb fresh ground angus, topped with a heirloom tomato, applewood bacon, chipotle gouda then served on a grilled brioche bun. If you are feeling adventurous ask for the Landon Calrissian).
This thing was also huge. I had no idea I'd get excellent portion sizes on an island that's basically a tourist trap. This burger was perfect. I can't stress that enough. Just go look at the pic. Large, juicy, well-seasoned, extra cheesy, perfect amount of veg, a strong bun, served with Voodoo chips. This might be the best thing I ate all my time on Key West.
Oh, and yes, I did get the Lando(n?) Calrissian. What that is is a heaping scoop of their Korean beef bulgogi in addition to their burger patty. So good. So ridiculous it was a lot of fun.
The final thing were the Korean BBQ Tacos (house made marinated beef short rib, napa cabbage, scallions, carrots, daikon, cilantro, citrus soy dressing, and sriracha).
These were less tacos and more just an excessive amount of meat falling off of a tortilla. Not complaining. It was excellent. Their marinade was very apartment and strong. But not too strong. All the little veg items basically made this a delicious bahn mi taco. Very good.
My visit here was amazing. Amazing food, amazing patio with live music, a full bar on property with booze and N/A options. Honestly, if I ever come back to the Keys, I'd...
Read moreI decided to try out Garbo’s Grill after I learned about it from Diner, Drive-Inns, and Dives. I also saw it on social media sites like Tik Tok, Instagram, and Facebook. This place is consistently ranked as one of the best in Key West, but to me it has no flavor, was dry, and very overpriced!
I tried the Korean BBQ Taco’s, Yum Yum Shrimp, Korean Style, and a bag of chips. In my opinion the Zappo’s chips were the best thing I had.
You order at the food truck, you pay, they give you a buzzer and when the buzzer goes off your food is ready. It says all food is cooked to order. The girl working the window asked if I wanted it spicy. Usually when someone asks this, they use good spice. To this place spicy means putting Sriracha on the food…
The Tacos were big, you get two tacos per Oder. But the meat was dry, chewy, and not seasoned at all! The tacos came with a slaw consisting of carrots and cabbage, and it has a sweet soy dressing. I asked for them spicy and they put the smallest amount of sriracha on it. See the picture.
I got the Yum Yum shrimp burrito. This was pretty good and came with a lot of shrimp, but this was very messy! The sauce was pouring out of the bottom of the burrito and made it hard to eat. The shrimp were seasoned pretty well, but again it was just a slaw inside.
I got Zappos Voodoo chips and they were great.
For two tacos, a burrito, and a bag of chips it was $34. They ask for a tip which is funny cause you get no service. I was really disappointed. I went right at 11:09 am when they first opened so it wasn’t busy.
Maybe try it out if you are a fan of the show. But Key West has a ton of better food options and don’t believe the hype...
