Overall I really liked this place. I have read all the other reviews, and while I can't vouch for some of the complaints, many of them seem to be some unique experience and perhaps they didn't research enough. My room was # 6. It was a second floor unit located out the backside. I can see this room being fine for a couple. I imagine pretty much all the rooms will be typical of a B and B, which means they will tend to be smaller. However my room had several closets which would offer plenty of space. Everything worked, the bed was comfortable, and I had no issues. I will most definitely plan to stay here again in the future.
What I liked: The room itself was perfect for me. I liked the upper floor location, and the bed was nice, as was the shower. The free breakfast was fine. Nothing fancy but it suited my needs. I don't feel it makes much sense to base your accommodation review on their breakfast. If that's your priority then maybe you need to pony up and go stay at one of the expensive waterfront places. Not to mention there's an awesome breakfast place right around the corner. The small spa was a nice treat. It's not a pool, but for me it was really nice to have. The location was also ideal for me...I liked being 10 seconds from Duval, and I prefer being closer to the southern end. The fridge was just a mini fridge, but plenty big for that style. You could easily keep a bunch of stuff in there if needed. Re service, every interaction I had was perfectly fine, friendly, and prompt. They have rules, as most places do...abide by them. Simple.
What wasn't so hot: The wifi wasn't that great for me, but then again I didn't really need it. My phone had perfect coverage for my needs. The outside deck was nice and big, but way too hot to use most times. Not their fault...it's Key West in June. I couldn't keep the blinds open because another deck was right next to my room, and the other units around could see right in anyway if they wanted. Again, it's a B and B in Key West, right near Duval. These places are quirky, but in a cool way. And re noise, yeah, it's right off Duval. In Key West. There WILL be occasional noise. It's like going to Las Vegas and saying "OH IT WAS WAY TOO BRIGHT".
That's about it. Like I said, I will return. I almost don't want to leave this review because I'd prefer that the nit-pickers keep others away. That way I stand a better chance of getting a room here...
Read moreThis was a wonderful place to stay on my first trip to Key West. My other half has had many visits to the Old Town district and knew we needed to be in walking distance to Duval. The included parking is well worth it. We parked on arrival and did not touch the car until we loaded it to go home. The lot is several blocks away, but better than street parking. The room was clean, the bed was very comfortable. We were upstairs in the back in room 5 with a king bed. The room was quiet during our stay. The rooms are small, but plenty big enough for our purposes, and they utilized every inch in the best way possible. I took the pictures as we checked out, so the bed is not perfectly made as it was on arrival, lol. JB was there on site and has been a Key West resident for many years and is a wealth of information. To me, that is a key part of a B&B, the personal touch. It is a smaller residence, but each room has a bathroom. There is a mini fridge in the rooms as well as a small coffee maker for those that require one. The soap/shampoo/conditioner in the shower are in wall dispensers as is the soap and body lotion at the sink to save space. The rooms have wall air conditioners that have a small remote to help manage them. There is a TV, but we never even turned it on! Continental breakfast is included, but if you have GF needs, you will need to supply your own. (I highly recommend Moondog, which is close by). The large hot tub on the property wes a welcome perk after walking all day. Overall it was a great place to stay for a weekend away and we look forward to staying here again...
Read moreBEWARE BEWARE BEWARE: owner became aggressive, engaged in discrimination, called the police and lied to them. We had an awful experience all the way around.
Our room was not ready at check in time, despite us receiving a call that it was ready hours earlier. The receptionist was unhelpful. We were asked to leave our task trained medical alert service dog in the hot car while waiting on the owner to come approve him. The owner showed up and was immediately aggressive.
He asked for an ADA service dog number, which doesn’t exist. I tried to show him the ADA requirements, Florida law, and the note from the doctor (all above and beyond what he is legally allowed to ask for), and he would not even look at it.
He called the police, lied to them, and told them we forced our way into the property (after they checked us in, gave us keys and a parking pass).
The police arrived, evaluated the service animal, and informed the owner he was engaging in discrimination, and opening himself up to litigation. He kicked us out anyway. After gathering our things, we chatted with the police officer outside who said he’d never seen anything like it, and provided us with information for a lawsuit.
Avoid at all costs. There are many better options nearby in the same price range where you won’t have to deal with volatile,...
