The Conch Shack — Restaurant in Key West

My wife and I ate here. Strangely, after a day of sightseeing and eating and sunlight cruising, I wanted a burger. She wanted conch fritters and this place was on her list. I ordered the dbl cheeseburger, hand cut fries and my wife got the conch fritters. Hands down the best burger and fries I have had in a very long time. The flavor was perfect.

My wife loved the fritters and I enjoyed them as well. Not having any comparisons, I was not disappointed. While chatting with Dave, the manager, I spoke about going to the Lobster Shack and having a lobster roll. He was almost offended because (unknown to me) The Conch Shack and Dave were the original place to bring in and serve Maine Lobster in a lobster roll. All others are copy cats. I realize what I am about to say will be hard to believe, but it’s true. I ordered a lobster roll to compare.

Now I have to say, I absolutely loved the lobster roll at Lobster Shack. Amazing. The one I ordered? Let’s just say it was a completely different flavor and so delicious. Granted, I was full, but how can you not eat a lobster roll the had at least a pound of lobster on a grilled in butter bun that is only flavored with salty butter? You can’t. Completely different flavor so can’t compare them to each other. Like apples and oranges. You can love both for different reasons. If I have time while still here, I will go back to the Conch Shack to try it again on an empty stomach.

Me and couple of friends stop here to get some food and we collectively decided that we were going to take the food to go. One of us got our food and we sat on a bench on the side of the restaurant. My friend was going through his bag and snacked on his food while we were waiting for the rest of our food. The guy working the register asked us if we were making him bag our food for no reason if we weren’t eating to go. He then started saying in our face so we could hear “ idk what is wrong with people, everyone is just stupid nowadays.” Another customer decided to chime in and talk more about it with guys but I couldn’t hear what he was saying” they continued to talk badly about us trying to make us feel bad about him bagging our food. The food was not that bad it was just the customer service was horrible and I wouldn’t recommend snacking on your food while your waiting on the rest of it cause the guy is just going to cry and be...

I give The Conch Shack 3.5☆ because even though the lobster roll ($22) was good, the seafood sampler platter ($18) was just ok. I did like they had the seafood sampler because we got to try 3 of their conch fritter with 5 fried shrimp and one piece of fried fish. The conch fritter tasted good but basically tasted like a hushpuppy with one small sliver of conch. Wish there was more conch but I guess all conch fritters are like that? The fried shrimp and fish were just ok. And the fries were soft and not crispy but that could be because I had to take it back to the hotel to eat because they only had 3 barstool chairs at their shack counter if you wanted to eat there.
