Stopped in for a bagel on the way through town in June, 2023. The Grapes & Grinds is what it sounds like. A nice little coffee shop and wine bar. The outside is really nice with Adirondack chairs and other nice places to relax and have coffee or a glass of wine. Just a nice place. Inside is no different. Very well done. And of course, a gift shop that every place seems to have in towns like this. I ordered a bagel, which cost approximately $5. I found the price of the bagel to seem higher compared to most places with the same offing. But other items such as coffee or such didn't seem drastically higher than other places. I paid with a credit card, so of course it wants you to tip them. I don't care for pre tipping. I especially don't care for pre tipping when there is no actual service rendered. But I worry that some people may retaliate if they see you don't tip. As such, I feel extorted a pay a tip. I'm not saying anyone there would do such a thing, but the possibility is there. In this case my instincts were right about tipping before an actual service. When I got where I was going with my bagel, I found they only cut the bagel in half. They put the spread inside and you have to put the spread on yourself. Good thing I didn't want to eat the bagel while on the road to make time. I would have to pull over to make my own bagel that I just paid G&G to make for me. So where is the service. I guess you now have to tip for just handing you a bagel. You basically have to make the bagel yourself. Speaking of this $5 bagel, it was by no means a bagel in my definition. It was nothing more than your basic roll. Nothing about it looked, had the distinguishing characteristics of a bagel, or even tasted like a bagel. No I bought a $5 roll with spread I had to put on myself. So don't waste your time with these bagels, unless you never actually had a bagel. Now I don't want to totally down play the rest of the offerings at Grapes & Grinds. They may be excellent, I don't know. I'm only expressing my opinion on the service and product I paid for, yet feel I did not receive. Unfortunately I can't give them a second try since I was only in the area briefly. So I am still giving them a total of four stars because they may be very good everywhere else. And the decor and environment of G&G is very nice. So do give them a try and form your...
Read moreGreat curb appeal and good items on the menu. We were in town on vacation and we decided to stop in on our way back home. A young man helped us and was being over friendly to my wife which I thought was weird. We ordered our stuff and our kids saw the playground so my wife advised me to take the kids and let them play outside and that she would bring the drinks and food outside so I did so. When she was walking out I see the young man carrying our drinks and food to our table which I thought was a little strange as well. Anyways we were on our way back home and she brings up the coffee shop man and how she was making her feel uncomfortable and thought it was weird when he insisted on bringing the drinks to our table I agreed she also notified me about him making a remark of saying that she should get a man that would do stuff like Carry her drinks out for her. VERY uncalled for. We have 3 children together and have been together for some time now. She did not want to tell me while we were at the coffee shop because she felt like there would of been conflict between myself and that young man which is understandable and would of been likely. I hope This young man sees this review and should learn from this. Anyways great coffee and gelato but not so...
Read moreBefore you continue you should know the previous two mornings we had horrific hotel coffee so this review might seem biased because that’s what I’m immediately comparing it to.
The hot chocolate was excellent. Nothing negative to say about it.
The hot white mocha coffee was excellent. You get an immediate hit of sweet white mocha and the coffee is strong enough to power through for the finish. If I were to compare it to Starbucks, I’d have to say it was slightly superior. Given the option, I’d choose this cup over theirs.
The iced caramel Frappuccino was also very good. It wasn’t quite sweet enough but a quick ask to the staff and they happily gave it a few more pumps of caramel and couldn’t have been kinder. They were all smiles.
All in all this was a nice spot with good coffee mixes. There’s a slight chance I’d look for maybe something better but if I’m back in this neck of the woods again I’d be more than happy to return.
They also had some fun little games out front...
