We spent an overnight at the Super 8 in Keystone after our visit to crazy Horse and Mount Rushmore. This was in June, 2023. We checked in late afternoon. The front desk person was attentive, friendly and professional. She was better than many front desk personal we have dealt with on our trip around the US. She told us she had not been there long and was actually from Minnesota. But either way, she was a pleasure to deal with. Our room was decent for a lower cost motel. I like to rate lodging by what they provide for you in a price. point, rather than what they don't. So it had the essentials like bed, shower, tv and yes a hair dryer that some lower cost motels may not provide. The bed was quite comfortable and we both slept well. The desk was a decent size, but not big. What I liked about it was it had a light close by on both sides which makes using the desk with a computer or such, much easier. In our room, which was a king size in the back section of the hotel, didn't put the desk right in front of the air conditioner like so many rooms we have come across have done. Now remember, our room wasn't in the main motel section. As such, things could be different. The TV was pretty small, but it did the job. The furniture was nice. We had a refrigerator, but the door dragged on the ground, which made opening and closing harder than it needed to be. But since it was only cooling water bottles for the next day, we survived the horror of it all. The bathroom section was a split setup with a large sink in the main room and the shower and toilet in a smaller bathroom. The shower had good water pressure and soft water. The sink counter was quite large and provided ample room for laying out your stuff. The AC/heating unit in our room was near the sink because of the layout of the rear building. It was probably one of the better setup's I've seen. Again, we were in the rear building, the main motel and its three floors probably are different. They offer a grab and go breakfast. But they are very upfront in telling you that breakfast is not their thing. We considered the grab and go option, but decided to instead buy something elsewhere that we probably would enjoy more. Although the coffee was pretty good. This overnight was not cheap. Even in a more cost effective motel like this Super 8, it still cost us approximately $140 with taxes. So you will pay extra to be in a more desirable area like Keystone. It was still less expensive than most options though. And it was 2 miles from Mount Rushmore. So the Super 8 in Keystone is a decent option if your looking for a clean less expensive place to stay...
Read moreMy wife and I took a spontaneous trip to see Mt. Rushmore, and with funds being tight as a medical student, I just booked what seemed to be the most affordable while still having decent reviews. In previous Super 8 stays, I haven't had bad experiences, per se, but the bar was still set pretty low in my mind. Well, suffice it to say I was blown away at this place. Leah a the front desk gave us the most friendly and helpful service I think I've ever had at any hotel, offering us personal recommendations for places to explore or where to eat. The other staff I met were also very pleasant and conversational. ||As far as the room goes, as I said before, the bar was set low in mind, but I was pleasantly surprised by our accusations. It's no 5 star resort by any means, but it was clean, organized, and ready for use. The building is a little old, and the sink faucet was broken (not unusable. The handle to adjust the heat and pressure was just loose and free spinning. It took some finesse to adjust the temperature). The beds were amazing, though. Usually I don't sleep well at hotels, but my wife and I actually enjoyed one of the better nights of sleep in a long time, we were so comfortable. The heating and AC worked fine, the door locked well, they card keys had no issues, and the in-room appliances were perfectly functional. The wifi was a tad slow, but hey, who goes to Keystone to just stay in the hotel and surf the web? ||Breakfast was provided, but there wasn't much to it. I'd recommend going somewhere in town or packing food. It was just a brown paper bag with a muffin, a tiny carton of apple juice, a diced peaches/tangerines carton, and some dried banana. Basically airplane snacks in a bag, honestly. It'd be adequate for a kid, maybe, but not for an adult with an appetite for protein. No complaints, though, as I was greatful to have anything that I didn't have to make.||Definitely would stay here again! Only reason I give 4/5 instead of 5 is because of the sink and...

Joker2OneActual 1/5 6 minutes ago on Google I booked a room with their call center, a few hours later at 8:53pm I recieved a call from the location I had booked in Keystone, the man from the hotel asked how long I would be, because he was leaving at 10 and said that he would stash my card for me in a hidden area. I cut my trip to Mt. Rushmore short and arrived at the hotel with 5mins to spare before 10, the attendant notified me with careful instructions to where my room was, in the rear of the building and left, locking the front door, he said that he would be gone all night. So upon returning, after getting dinner, I spent an hour looking for room 407 to the rear of the building, to no avail, I tried calling the fromt desk, but no one at all was working in this hotel! I finally started using my card on the doors, until one opened, it was 401. I called their booking line to complain, and they dodged my complaints and referred me to their customer service... and transferred the call to them, which ended up being the voicemail to the front office of the hotel i was staying in, after the phone rang forever... If someone got locked out of their room, they better be ready to sleep in the parking lot if there is no night...
