My son wanted pizza for his birthday so we decided to try out Gabe's instead of going to a big name pizza place. The window said "family dining', so my large family went right on it. We planned on eating there. There are 2 huge tv's inside. Commercials were on when we first walked in. While looking over the menu the show came back on... it was highly offensive. I won't even type out what I saw because it could be a trigger for someone to read it, but it was disgusting. There was only one employee working, and I asked him if he could please change the channel. He did, but you could tell he was annoyed at my request and changed it with a great deal of attitude. I thanked him and placed my order. That was a challenge because the sub my husband was ordering was meant to be no cheese. For some reason we were told that would make the bread hard. ? I don't know. So we sat down and waited for our order to be ready. We made a few trips up to the soda fountain, as we have a large family and it took a few trips of me and the kids to get everyone a drink. No lids for kids cups. The employee could be heard mumbling under his breath the entire time. My husband and I decided to get our food to go. So I went up to the counter and asked him if he could please make our order to go when it was ready. He said yes. My husband said that as soon as I turned around he was shaking his head at me... and again I heard the mumbling.
We brought the pizza home (in a bag?! no boxes?!), but didn't eat it. We wound up stopping somewhere else for lunch.
Bottom line: Wouldn't EVER go here again. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I can't speak for the quality of their pizza... but for me, service is important. If I'm going to be treated so poorly, I don't care if you have the best pizza on the planet, I won't be...
Read moreI'm relatively new to Kokomo, I consider myself fairly well traveled, a bit of a foody, and privileged to have tried as many establishments as I have. I have had commercial big name pizza and little mom and pop joints from around the Eastern United States. Although I don't ALWAYS want this type of pizza, when I do I would be hard pressed to find a better one anywhere else. I love the party cut, the zesty sausage in abundance, a pleasant snap to the thin cracker-like crust, and the slight sweetness to the sauce. It isn't traditional in every sense but delicious in the sense that matters most....taste. I was raving to a few people around town about Gabe's pizza and they continued with telling me about pizza king....telling me it was similar but better, as Indiana as pork loin sandwiches....so being one to always give it a try I succumbed to their suggestions. I have come to the conclusion that not only is pizza king different entirely but doesn't hold a candle to the pizza I've consistently got from Gabe's pizza, not does any place I've visited in Kokomo this far. I will continue to visit and enjoy these establishments as well as put forth my opinions of them any chance I get, enticing more and new people to try this place for the first time or others to just simply return here. Thank you for the wonderful product and it will be gravely missed when the time comes for me to...
Read moreThis rating is primarily for the W.Sycamore store, on 2 occasions they refused to answer their fone to take orders, one time is was at 10:15pm AMD the second time a week later at 10pm, CLOSING IS AT 11pm., The second time, drove by, open sign still on, but no answer. So we called the ALTO Road Gabes and geez, these kids answered the fone, it was 10:25pm, same night the Sycamore store refused to answer the fone. Gabes is one of my favorites for stromboli's, but may have to change is to was if this happens ONE more time, even ALTO folks said this isn't the first they heard about this, soooo I hope the OWNER/Manager re-evaluate his store employees on...
