Had been wanting to check Mumtaz out for a long time. Stopped by for lunch recently and got my grub on.
When you enter, big menus are posted on the wall by the door. This is a super casual place with a Subway Sandwich Shop vibe (a small, pretty basic dining area). You order and pay at the counter and then seat yourself and they bring your food out to you when it's ready. Food is served on disposable plates or in plastic baskets depending on what you order and the utensils and cups are disposable (plastic) as well. They use styrofoam for to go items.
Seeing the food served with disposable plastic and styrofoam plates, cups and utensils was disappointing when we are facing such a monumental environmental crisis with so much garbage and single use plastic/styrofoam contaminating and destroying our land and oceans and the inhabitants of both.
Service was very friendly and we were greeted immediately upon entering.
Hubby and my son each had a Falafel Sandwich with French Fries and I had the Mezza Sampler which is vegetarian and included Hummus, Babaganoush, 2 Dolmas, 2 Falafel, 2 Spanakopita, 2 Cheese Sambusek, Tahini Sauce, Cucumber Sauce, Olives and Pita Bread.
The food came out pretty quickly. Both hubby and my son said their Falafel Sandwiches and Fries were fresh and hot and tasted good and that they felt that the sandwich size was good. The Mezza Sampler is certainly a generous portion of food (I couldn't eat it all so shared it with the table) but it did not match the picture from the menu. The menu showed the Mezza Sampler including 4 Falafel and 4 Cheese Sambusek but my plate had 2 of each. The menu picures/details and the food served should match. Everything was pretty good except the pita bread that seemed stale so that took my rating down a star for that because that made the entire meal less enjoyable, especially the hummus and Babaganoush. The hummus and Babaganoush tasted pretty good but seemed to be missing something - would have been better with more seasoning.
We thought the prices were a little high. Overall it was an okay experience and we left full. We agreed that we would definitely grab a bite to eat here again if in the area. Hopefully next time the Pita will be fresh and it would be amazing to see them using ecofriendly serving ware and takeout packaging the next...
Read moreI previously posted that Mumtaz had "the best Mediterranean food in Boulder County!" And was above 5 stars. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case.
First about the food. Most of the chicken entree was good. Chicken was seasoned and charred beautifully, and the pita and baklava were still great. However, the baba ghanouj was not good, and it used to be one of my favorites on the menu! It tasted like an entire bottle of liquid smoke had been poured in it and it was inedible. I used to love their falafel. I ordered a 5 piece of them, but they didn't come out with the food.
This leads me into the customer service: after I noticed we didn't receive the falafels and tasted the disgusting baba ghanouj, I went to speak the employee. First, I told her we didn't get our falafel order and an extra pita I ordered for my daughter. She then proceeded to dig through the trash for the receipt to show me she didn't put them on the order. When I was ordering the falafels she even asked me if I wanted a 2 or 5 piece of them. Since it was her mistake, I asked her to rectify theess up by giving me an order of falafels for free. She refused saying she "read the order back" at the end of the transaction. I have a disability that causes me to dissociate in social situations especially with strangers, so it hard for me to understand what people are verbally saying to me (a screen with the order on it so that the customer can see the order is a life saver for me because I can still focus on reading while dissociating). I felt like she was blaming me for her mistake. Then I told her the baba ghanouj is inedible and ask to switch it with hummus. Again she refused saying she had nothing to do with how it was made! It's not like I ate most of it and asked to switch; I had one bite. And what does it matter if she didn't have anything to do with the cooking. I was not satisfied with the product and that is what matters.
The customer service here was as great as the food was! What the hell happened? I use to drive from Longmont just for Mumtaz, but after this experience, I will no longer go here. I'm kind of sad because I love to support local business. But Cava has better customer service and the food is...
Read moreHorrible experience with the service today. I come here regularly and it's always great. Today I came for lunch and the first thing that was wrong was I thought I was shorted on my fries. Well I guess you have to be VERY SPECIFIC with Nor in order to get the meal. I figured ordering the gyro and drink was the meal or even she would offer the meal like any regular Cashier would but not her. I asked about the fries after getting the gyro and she said we didn't order it. I asked the price difference because what I had paid is normally what I pay when I get a meal. Her response was she didn't know and stood there like she didn't know what to do. I had to instruct her to get the price and keep in mind this WHOLE TIME she had attitude with the both of us. She came back and told us the price difference than tried to tell me what I said when ordering. My Uncle nicely tried to ask her if she was having a bad day and her attitude even got worse. I had enough so I asked for the manager and she said he wasn't there. I asked how to get a hold of him and she said she didn't know how to and to come back another day. I asked for his number and her response was "nope" and than walked away. After eating I attempted again to get his information and this time I asked the cook, he appeared he was about to give it to me and then I looked at her she was shaking her head at the cook telling him not to give it out. The cook told me to write my info down to give to the owner. Her attitude and personality should not be the face or who customer's have to deal with when coming to this great restaurant. We told her we come in there all the time and she mentioned she's related to the owner. The cook was a lot more friendly than her, maybe they should trade places. I'll be expecting a call from the owner.
UPDATE Mo the owner called me very quickly and apologized for his "employee" and will fix this issue....
