We were happy to get a table at Frontera at dinner time just a couple hours after our plane landed in Orlando. We were in the mood for fine-dining Mexican and that’s what Frontera promised to be. I started with the Play With Fire cocktail which is infused with jalapeño and is supposed to offer bit of a kick as a result, prepared with my choice of tequila or mezcal. I went with the waiter’s choice of Mezcal (a smokier liquor that the waiter assured me was the staff’s choice for this drink.) The first one that came wasn’t smokey and had no hint of the jalapeno. I think the bartender made it wrong…they brought a second which did have that promised smokey flavor but still wasn’t particularly spicy as one would expect from a drink called “Play With Fire” and whose second ingredient is jalapeño. A little disappointing. I had the Grilled Zucchini, Mushroom and Potato Enchiladas…there are a few vegetarian items on the menu including a Zucchini tostada, a mushroom trot and a couple of salads.) I thought the flavor was good in the enchiladas but it was a VERY heavy dish (heavt as in rich). I couldn’t finish it. (My wife felt the same way about the dish she ordered…very heavy.) We also had a side of chips and salsa. (Generally speaking I think Mexican restaurants should automatically give chips and salsa…it feels like the official amuse bouche of the Mexican food world…so a bit of a bummer we had to separately buy chips and salsa.) The 2 salsas it came with were really tasty…a chipotle red and and “herby” verde. Loved them both, though the chips themselves were a little off in terms of taste and texture. They were nice enough to create a vegetarian version of the tacos from the kids menu for our kid (A nice plate with a couple of house-made flour tortillas with cheese in them and a side of beans, rice and carrots. It actually looked like the tastiest and somewhat lightest dish on the table and he was happy with it. Well we definitely got a fine dining experience but weren’t overly happy with what we received which is disappointing when going to a super pricy restaurant.

Frontera Cocina, a Mexican style restaurant that understands its roots and looks to go above and beyond the status quo when it comes to flavor, presentation, and high quality ingredients. From the moment I first stepped in I was greeted by the friendly staff in the front where I was seated immediately after having made a reservation about a week in advance. I highly recommend you make a reservation since the restaurant was really full but not operating at 100% capacity. They made sure that each table was well over 6 feet apart and offered digital menus so you can browse through all their delicious selection from the comfort of your phone. I am Hispanic and the interior of the restaurant felt like I was visiting a very rich grandma who decided to go all out and make it feel as homey and welcoming as possible. Which paired perfectly with all of their dishes. Ok, now to get to the good stuff, THE FOOD. Just thinking about what I ordered that day still has me salivating from how Incredible it was. I started off with the chips and guac(The guac was limey but not to much where it kills the flavor and it was also smothered with bacon bits) and the Quesos Fundido(A melted cheese pot served with a side of tortilla and the actual cheese was mixed with chorizo and onions. The stretch factor of the cheese when you dipped your fork inside was insane, combined with the chorizo you could not ask for a better duo). For the entree I went with pork tacos( the meat you can tell was very well seasoned and just tore apart from just touching it, which made each bite to your taco effortless and not a war to rip off a piece of meat. This also came with a small amount of guac, warm tortillas, and black beans). Overall, this restaurant has my heart and I will definitely be coming back when I am in the area again. -The Fashionable Foodie

Booked a table at Frontera Cocina and was very much looking forward to a night of fresh Mexican feasting...what we got however was quite something else. First we were greeted nicely by the front of house staff. The team didn't make us do that random 5 minute wait that normally is custom in American restaurants and sat us straight away which was nice. However table had no physical menus and no cutlery. The waiter took our drinks order and the starter order. The starter came out before the drinks which was our first concern. We had the guacamole chips and the guacamole was completely tasteless. The chips were tasty. Drinks wise we had Coors light so can't get that wrong but one of us ordered a sangria which had no fruit in it at all and just looked and tasted like a red wine. Our drinks arrived and shortly after the mains followed. Almost impossibly fast. The whole experience felt like quick service as we had been sat, ordered drinks, starters and got our mains within 30mins. We thought okay the menu isn't expansive so they must be masters of the dishes they serve. This is not the case. The meals were all luke warm and relatively low quality. The pork was tough and tasteless and the enchiladas were cold. You could clearly tell dishes were cooked a long time ago and had just been warmed up. Not good enough when you charge north of $22 a dish. Even after all mains were served we still had no cutlery so had to request from the server. All in all a dissapointing experience having been something we looked forward too. The team gave us a discount based on our experience. I'd like to see improvements before we head back. Master your menu and deliver a dinning experience. Not expensive, poorly cooked quick service. If I want that I'll go to the parks.

Our waitress blamed me for a cilantro accident (I’m allergic) “that’s on you” she said to me when she relized there was cilantro in a sauce.

She heard me coughing, after a few bites my throat was getting irritated. She said “is that spicy” I said no not really. A few min later she rushed to me to inform me the sauce I was eating had a little cilantro. But then started to politely scold me that it’s my fault. I was not even upset, it happens it’s not a big deal. But the fact she continued to give me reasons why it was my fault was just unprofessional.

I ordered the Yucca fries but asked for all the sauces and toppings on the side so everyone at the table including my 2 year old nephew could partake. It also illuminated the cilantro issue.

The menu listed the seasoned mayo, the green chili sauce, the lime & the cilantro in that order with camas after each ingredient.

When she brought me the yucca fries she said “everything is on the side and no cilantro” I thanked her and began to dip them in the green chili sauce and that’s when I began to cough.

After accusing me of it being my fault she added “it says on the menu that cilantro is in the sauce”

I had enough of her insisting I’m to blame, I said “NO it does not say cilantro is in the sauce it clearly states it’s an ingredient separated by camas and cilantro is listed last no there near the sauce descriptions.

I didn’t even complain as I began to cough. For the entire meal, my throat was getting a bit swollen & irritated and I just kept eating ice to keep my throat tolerable. I spent the entire evening clearing my throat, until I walked back to my hotel and found allergy medicine. My throat is so incredibly sore now. Again, things happen it was an accident no big deal but this waitresses bad rude attitude ended up being a very big deal.

After we paid the bill I found a menu and saw I was correct and I showed the waitress and read it to her, she began to dissagree and continue to argue with me. I tried to explain over & over that the camas separated the ingredients but she kept insisting the it means cilantro is in the sauce.

Is there something she was avoiding? What happened if the waitress accidentally gives a customer an allergy food after she asks about allergies and offered to make sure there is no allergic food in the meals she serves. What happens if a meal gets sent back after the waitress relizes the made a mistake?

Why would she try so hard to put the blame on the customer? We had a heated discussion and my children were embarrassed and my family & pretty much ruined the rest of the evening. After debating with her I had to explain what a Cama was used for in English literature. Not my finest moment and definitely could have handled it with much more control of my words.

This waitress needs training in customer service. If a manager would like to reach out I’ll give you the time, date & reservation name so you can figure out the name of...

WOW!! Our first crappy experience at a Rick Bayless establishment. First, let me say, THE FRONTERA COCINA BAR STAFF WAS, AS ALWAYS, EXTRAORDINARY. We love them and the effort they make in always making guests feel at home -- and we love their spectacular margaritas and the food. This bar staff had to deal with A LOT of nonsense today. I feel terrible for them. It was disarming and upsetting to us as guests. We have been regulars here for the entire 8 years FC has existed. Today was the first jarringly bad experience we've ever had here in EIGHT YEARS. Why? Outsiders. Interlopers. Basura. Seriously!! We love this bar staff, this wait staff and this kitchen staff at Frontera. Tremendous cocktails, tremendous food, tremendous service. Always. BUT TODAY, the owners allowed outside folks to just take over the bar, to prep for a private party the next day, and these obnoxious people absolutely steamrolled the regular staff and showed ZERO respect for the staff and for us, THE GUESTS. I'm still stunned at how obnoxious they were. Odioso. This group of six or seven people just took over half the bar and paid NO MIND to respecting the bar staff, their work, and their guests. They hardly spoke to the bar staff as they took over their workstation. For hours, we watched this. They seemed to think they owned the place. Words can't suffice to describe how incredibly rude they were and how it affected our experience as guests. It was so bad, we had to get up and move across the bar to get away from them, as they kept shoving more of their equipment and cocktail experiments further and further into our laps, liquids flying and slopping everywhere. NO regard whatsoever for THE GUESTS. And no regard for the staff. So beyond disrespectful. They made it impossible for the bar staff to do their jobs -- and the bar was busy, of course. We watched bartenders weave around them and move their boxes and cartons and gallons and carts full of mixers and bottles and beakers every five minutes, to the point the bar staff could hardly work. I've never seen Frontera Cocina like this. And management just stood by. Such a disappointment to witness as a guest, having it affect our time at FC today in such a disappointing way. Who is more important? The guests?? Or these yahoos who shoved the guests and the FC staff out of the way to do whatever they pleased?? Today, management made it feel like these non-staff people were far more important than any guest or staff. Once we moved across the bar to get away from them, our night improved, but only by so much -- it was appalling to watch these people be so incredibly disrespectful to the bar staff. Wow. Simply unacceptable and so disappointing for a Rick Bayless hot spot. Who pays the bills? Guests pay the bills. For us, as regular guests for FC's entire eight years, this was an appalling display and stunningly "bad show." DO...

ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE – I Would Give Zero Stars If I Could

Let me start by saying that I am not someone who complains lightly. I understand restaurants get busy. I understand mistakes happen. But what we experienced at this establishment was not just a mistake or a bad night — it was pure, unfiltered negligence and complete disregard for paying customers.

We walked in, were seated, and then… nothing. No greeting. No water. No menus. Not even a “someone will be with you shortly.” We sat there for an entire hour without a single staff member acknowledging our presence. And no — it was not busy. The place was far from full. In fact, what made this worse was the sight of several staff members literally just standing around, laughing, talking, doing NOTHING. They were fully aware of our presence and actively ignored us.

After 60 minutes of being ignored, I politely went up and reminded them we were still waiting to be served. The response? Nothing changed. We sat back down, giving them the benefit of the doubt, thinking surely now they’ll come. Nope. Another 15 minutes passed — still no one came to our table. Not a single employee. Not a hello. Not a glass of water. NOTHING.

To top it off, as we were leaving (after sitting there for 1 hour and 20 minutes with zero service), we informed yet another staff member of our experience. Their response? A shrug and a sarcastic “sorry.” That’s it. No apology, no accountability, no attempt to correct what had happened. Just a lazy, disinterested shrug — as if we were the ones inconveniencing them by expecting basic human decency.

This was hands down the worst treatment I have ever received in a restaurant. Ever. And I’ve traveled a lot. I’ve eaten at high-end places, dive diners, fast food joints — everywhere. Never in my life have I been treated with such complete disregard. I don’t care how good your food supposedly is — if you can’t even manage the bare minimum of customer service, you don’t deserve to be in business.

Unprofessional doesn’t even begin to describe it. This was unbelievable, rude, disrespectful, and frankly, embarrassing for the restaurant. I wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy.

Save your time, your money, and your sanity. Go literally anywhere else. This place doesn’t deserve...
