I stayed at the Wyndham Lake Buena Vista in Orlando, FL for 8 nights while attending a professional conference. Unfortunately, my experience took a dramatic turn on the 6th night when I discovered a live bed bug in my room. I immediately reported it to the front desk. Security and housekeeping came up and confirmed it was, indeed, a live bed bug. My room was then blocked off for inspection, and I was allowed to move rooms with just enough clothing for the next day.
The following day, I was informed that the inspector found two additional bed bugs in the headboard. I was shocked, concerned, and suddenly facing the overwhelming possibility of bringing bed bugs back to my home — a very serious issue for anyone, let alone a mother of six living in rural Alaska where pest treatment resources are extremely limited.
When I tried to speak with management about compensation and assistance — even just to get my tennis shoes for a planned outing that evening — the response I received was deeply disappointing. I was told the hotel would only refund the original card used for the room, which was not mine. I explained that I could not access those funds since the accommodations had been paid for on my behalf. I also explained that I had purchased a new suitcase filled with clothes for my six children, which now all needed to be treated. The manager said the only reimbursement they could offer was $4 for the laundry machines. After a confirmed bed bug infestation, I was understandably uncomfortable using any in-house laundry facilities. I still have not unpacked my belongings in fear of bringing bugs into my home.
I shared that the situation was now preventing me from attending parts of my $1500 conference, and from enjoying the few vacation activities I had planned. Instead, I was consumed with the logistics and fear of bringing pests home to my family. I expressed that if I couldn’t get help directly, I might have to share my experience publicly through social media or the news — which I believe is my right to do. Shockingly, the manager accused me that telling her I’m going to social media is threatening her, and warned that I would be trespassed if I said it again. Going to social media (and saying I will do so) is not a threat.
To make matters worse, she then called who she believed to be my boss — while I was still in the middle of dealing with this — and told them I was threatening her and that they were needed at the front desk. When my colleague arrived, I calmly explained what I had actually said and emphasized that I simply want to share my own experience. My colleague agrees that’s not a threat.
I also asked the manager if I could record our conversation and acknowledged Florida’s two-party consent laws — I asked for her consent, which she refused, but this clearly was not a secretive or hostile request. Her reaction was unprofessional, and her willingness to involve my employer was completely inappropriate. It felt like an attempt to intimidate me or jeopardize my employment — all while I was exhausted, and in the middle of a very real health and safety crisis.
Throughout this, I repeatedly expressed that I was deeply worried about the safety implications of having slept in a bed bug-infested bed. This was completely disregarded.
The hotel’s response showed a shocking lack of empathy, accountability, and professionalism. If you’re considering staying here — especially with children, or for business travel — I urge you to reconsider. The staff may be friendly at the front desk, but if you encounter any real issues, especially something as serious as bed bugs, management will not have your back.
This experience has left me emotionally distressed and financially impacted — all because I trusted this hotel for what should have been a safe, comfortable, and professional stay. This has been an overwhelmingly awful situation and threats to be trespassed from a hotel because they would not try to resolve the bed bug issue is something I would never have imagined...
Read moreLove the resorts here!!Fantastic area no matter what your looking for in Orlando! Everything cost a little more around this location but that's to be expected as is the crowd. Good place to take kids & or teens! So much to do. Have stayed in the Grand hotel tower and the other towers with time share condos. The hotel boasts a little more "grand appreance" as far as the lobby and over all room presentation. That being said you couldn't beat the price I paid for a two bedroom condo with a full kitchen (stocked with everything needed to cook), living room, oversized balcony, dinning for 6,bar/counter area that adds an additional 4 person seating and 2 bathrooms( in guest room it's jack & jill style). We had plenty of room( each room has its own TV, so three per condo-living & each bedroom). The master has a king bed & sunkentub +standup shower and they have two sinks in the master and these areas are separated so you have more space, 2nd bedroom has 2 queen beds and the couch pulls out. Staff is beyond kind and helpfu on the hotel side & club side! You can't beat the amenities or the lush greenery at this resort! You can come here and never leave the property and have tons to do for you and your kids. Several beautiful pools boast views of "sunken pirate ships" with beach entrance pools, lazy rivers, a beautiful lake in the middle with great views & wildlife. Several bars & restaurants on site. There are places to grill ,an ice cream shop, minni golf, a play ground. There are walkways throughout that connect and safety is top notch here. No one is here that is not suppose to be so you feel safe letting kids walk around as the ground is well monitored by staff. Bonus at night you have an AMAZING view of the Epcot fireworks 🎆 They happen at 9pm sharp every night. I love this resort but especially for the price point it delivers. Everyone is sure to be happy as older kids can make friends and play and you can relax poolside or in the lazy river. The resort has something for kids from younger to teens. The water also has wildlife and GIANT koi fish and you can get food from the desk to feed them. Rooms have washer & dryers & have shampoo/conditioner/body wash & lotion stocked in both restrooms( & it's a nice brand of aromatherapy kind), hand soap, dish soap, salt & pepper , laundry soap, dish sponge. I would recommend taking paper plates-they have paper towels ;). Also, upside to staying on the club side vs. Hotel is no additional resort fees or parking fees. They hold 200$ for incidentals thats refunded upon check out. Resort wrist bands work as your room key and teens must be 16 & up to charge to your room. You can't reserve Lakeview or what tower on the Club side ( even though all properties are attached) however you can request when you check in for a higher floor, tower or view. My recommendation would be look at the map and see what amenities you would like to be closest too & ask for that tower. I broke my ankle recently so I also learned the guys outside in golf carts will take you from tower to tower so you dont have to move your car or walk too far. They offer shuttles to the parks. Ice cream, sushi & several restaurants/bars on site. Two gift shops. Two lazy rivers,a park, amiptheater, at least 5 pools,Water slides at no additional cost. In the main hotel a Starbucks & on club wyndham a coffe shop, Daily printed activities, Your kids you will not be...
Read moreI took my daughter on a surprise birthday trip to Tampa and Disney. We stayed one night at this hotel. The gentleman that initially checked us in did not seem interested in telling me anything about the hotel or restaurants. We were early so we were told to go somewhere and they would text when the room was ready. When I received the text, I went back and the lady that helped was much more helpful and receptive to my daughter’s sensory issues. She gave great instructions on the shuttle to Disney and the hotel amenities. When we got to the room, we noticed it was a bit older but ok. When we came back from the park, we asked for a late check out and were told they could only do until 12:30pm. The bed was not comfortable. There were people upstairs and next door extremely loud into wee hours of the night. The phone did not work for us to contact the front desk so I had to call from my regular phone to the front desk. What upset me the most was the fact that housekeeping was pounding…not knocking..POUNDING…on the door at 8:30am even with the DND on the door, the sensory noted on the room and the late check out. When I didn’t answer, they came back 5 minutes later pounding again. I jumped up because I thought something was wrong. I opened the door and the gentleman from housekeeping was down a few rooms and said “oh, my fault” Are you serious? Now my daughter is up having a meltdown scared. When I calmed her down, they started cleaning the next room about 9am and making as much noise as they could and slamming the vacuum into the walls. When we got up and ready to go down to check out, I explained what happened to the front desk attendant. He didn’t seem interested in getting the manager as I asked and said he would not charge me the resort fee of $40. When I asked to still speak to the manager, he said “Ok but your issue is with housekeeping not the front desk and you should talk to them. We aren’t going to do anything more.” Not very customer appropriate. A lady came out and said she was the manager but I don’t think she was. I told her what happened and she literally saw my daughter have an episode there at the desk because of a dropped piece of luggage. She was not recommending doing anything else. I normally like Wyndham. I come to Disney a lot and stay in different places. This is not a hotel I will recommend or stay at in the future. I will also not recommend it to any of our programs that I set up accommodations for. Very disappointed in the hotel and how everything...
