We traveled 3 days out of our way on our road trip to eat at Buffalo Phil's in the Wisconsin Dells. We discovered this place through an Instagram reel that showcased the Lego displays and the train-delivered food. We were extremely excited and modified our plans significantly to ensure we could arrive around mealtime. We arrived at 1pm on a Monday, when the restaurant was not busy, but we arrived at the same time as 2 different families. There were plenty of tables open, but the wait was still long, solely due to the hostess, whose name I believe was Ann, taking a very long time to seat each group. Each time she returned, she would immediately complain to the next guest about how far she had walked. She did not ask the family ahead of us about any table options, but she did ask us about table options, offering us only a high-top table and a booth. We chose the booth on the assumption that it was where the train would deliver food, or that every table would have train-delivered food, since that was core to their concept. We were mistaken. The hostess sat us in 1 of the 4 booths in the entire restaurant that did not have train-delivered food. It was in the bar area, but we later discovered that there were 4 additional booths in the bar area that served train-delivered food; however, she didn't seat us at any of them. We believed that all the tables with train-delivered food had been taken, and I did not want to cause a scene, so I tried to hide my severe disappointment. About halfway through the meal, I went to the bathroom and noticed that there were at least 5 open tables seated next to the train. When we were about to leave, I asked a different hostess (the one who had seated us was standing near the bar, still complaining about how far she had walked today) how to get a table with train-delivered food. She informed me that the hostess is supposed to ask every guest if they would like that option. I explained that we were not asked and that I had driven 3 days to be profiled by the original hostess, who assumed I didn't want train-delivered food. If I wasn't interested in that, why would I eat there? The food was extremely lackluster. I ordered the Buffalo Burger, which would've been mediocre at best, but the lettuce, tomato, and onion that were "placed on the side" were actually placed underneath my burger with the tomato on top, causing the bun to be soggy by the time it arrived at the table. I love fries, and theirs were so bad I couldn't finish them. My girlfriend got the fried chicken wrap, which she described as not better than any chicken wrap she's ever made at home. After we had finished eating, we walked around the property to see the Legos. This is when we noticed a couple of very disappointing things. The first being that there were now at least a dozen open tables next to the train, which just fueled my disappointment and annoyance about not being seated at one. The second thing was that the restaurant consisted of only two rooms plus the bar. The 1st room connected to the bar featured a Lego display showcasing different Lego City, Architecture, and Animal sets designed to resemble the Wisconsin Dells. The 2nd room featured a display of only Lego Star Wars, my personal favorite, with 100% of the tables in the room situated next to the train. However, it was chosen to close this room instead of the 1st room, which had only ~65% tables seated next to the train. On top of this, the Lego Star Wars room had a "Galaxy Light Show" that you had to pay to operate! This is a business offering at least a dozen different services to make money, yet they still charge to view the decor! Overall, I feel it was a complete waste of time to go out of our way to eat here. If you have young kids and are willing to make a fuss to ensure they're happy while fueling the owner's greed, then I'm sure it's a really cool place to visit, with unique decor and a large property featuring various games. Otherwise, I would stay...

Buffalo Phil’s Pizza & Grille is one of the most unique and family-friendly restaurants in Wisconsin Dells. Located right next to the Outlets at the Dells, this restaurant is famous for its train-delivered food—yes, your meals and drinks are literally brought to your table by a model train! Beyond the fun and novelty, the food is surprisingly good and reasonably priced, making it a great stop whether you’re with family, friends, or just looking for a fun dining experience.
The Train Experience
The biggest draw of Buffalo Phil’s is the train delivery system. If you sit in one of the designated train-delivery sections, a miniature train chugs along a track and stops at your table to drop off food, drinks, and even condiments. This feature makes it an absolute hit for kids and adults alike—there’s something really fun about seeing a train roll up with your meal!
The Food
While the train service is the main attraction, the food is actually very good, which isn’t always the case with themed restaurants. • Brisket (14 oz for $22) – I went for the brisket, and it was tender, smoky, and flavorful. The portion size was generous, and for the price, it was a solid value. It had just the right amount of seasoning and smoke, making it one of the better briskets I’ve had in a non-BBQ specialty restaurant. • Rotisserie Chicken ($18.99) – My girlfriend got the half rotisserie chicken with broccoli and coleslaw. The chicken was juicy and well-seasoned, and the sides were fresh and well-prepared. The broccoli was steamed to perfection, and the coleslaw had a nice balance of creaminess and crunch. • The menu is diverse, offering everything from BBQ to pizza, burgers, pasta, and seafood. They also have great kid-friendly options, making it a perfect spot for families.
Pricing & Value
For Wisconsin Dells, where restaurant prices can be steep, Buffalo Phil’s is actually very reasonably priced for the quality and portion sizes. The brisket at $22 and the chicken meal at $18.99 felt fair, especially considering the portion sizes and overall experience.
Arcade & Additional Attractions
Buffalo Phil’s is connected to Knuckleheads, an entertainment center featuring an arcade, trampoline park, bowling, and rides. This makes it an ideal place to take kids—they can play before or after the meal while parents relax and enjoy their food.
Service & Atmosphere
The atmosphere is casual, fun, and family-oriented. The train-themed décor and lively environment make it a place where both kids and adults can enjoy themselves. The staff was friendly and efficient, keeping things moving smoothly even during busy hours.
Final Verdict
Buffalo Phil’s is a must-visit in Wisconsin Dells, whether you’re traveling with kids or just looking for a fun and unique dining experience. The train delivery system makes it memorable, the food is great for the price, and the connection to an arcade adds an extra layer of entertainment.
Pros: ✔ Food delivered by train – a one-of-a-kind experience ✔ Large portions and reasonably priced meals ✔ Delicious brisket and rotisserie chicken ✔ Family-friendly with an arcade and entertainment center attached ✔ Fun atmosphere with great service
Cons: ✖ Can get busy, especially on weekends (expect a wait) ✖ Not every table is in the train delivery section, so request one if you want the full experience
Overall Rating: 4/5 – A great spot for fun, food, and...
Read moreThis was our first time here. We had 5 of us in which on was a 7 year old. Our sever was less than par and seemed unhappy ti even be at work. Ordering drinks first was a disaster. We needed 2 of the Flashing fish bowl drinks, a tap beer, an Old Fashion and 3 waters. It was a nightmare for our server to get that straight. She then brought the drinks but forgot the waters. Had to tell her again and she only brought 3 back and one was supposed to have lemons but it didn’t. Food comes out, kids meal was supposed to be Mac n cheese with broccoli it came out with fries, 2 ordered the Brisket meal, the Brisket was like roast and dried out. The chips and salsa were fine but you only get two small things of Salsa and cheese for a big basket of chips. The Philly Cheesteak was good per the person eating it. A guy came and asked if we needed anything we asked for more water and the lemon plus the water from when we first sat down. The guy said “ I guess I can do that” rolled his eyes and walked away. Never brought water. Then we told our server and she never brought water either. By this time we are done. Our server brings the bill we asked to speak to the manager. She disappeared for quite some time then came back to our table to grab our cards out to pay our bills. I asked where the manager is, she rolled her eyes and walked away. Some time later the Manager came out listened to us explain our concerns. She apologized and said sorry and she would take something off our bill, she took $3 off ours and $7 off the others at our table. We’re hopeful this will be used as a Coaching opportunity to listen to your guests orders, get the drinks timely even after being asked 3 times to get them. We understand being a server can be challenging but this was horrible service. Food less than par and all the issues made for a really bad experience. There were only 2 tables in use and they were leaving when we were eating so there was no rushing and shouldn’t have been an issue for poor service. The eye rolls and rude comment when adking for water was really what made us feel the need to write a review. The guy that made the comment and eye roll was behind the bar when we were leaving, just standing there with no one at the bar. So, he clearly just didn’t feel the need to work while at work that he couldn’t bring us the waters ordered from the start. Why even come to the table if you don’t want to help your customers? Hopefully those two staff take this corrective criticism and do better in the future. We were more than nice about everything but others may...
