Free box combo during the birthday month of Caniac Club members
I arrived fashionably late to the Raising Cane's party. First opening in the area in Costa Mesa, then Downey, and finally the closest one to me in Lakewood. I've heard about the long lines, mixed reviews on the chicken (delicious to overrated), overpriced menu. So, I was reticent to go to a fast food chicken chain when I'm quite happy with my go-to, Church's Chicken. Before 2019 came upon us, I was looking for a new place to eat & review, so I decided to hit up Raising Cane's and hoped for the best I wouldn't arrive at a time when the line would be crazy. Fortunately, I beat the rush and ordered the box combo.
box combo- Four lightly breaded white meat chicken fingers. The breading was crunchy, having come piping hot from the kitchen, and the white meat was tender & juicy. The sauce is great! Tangy, creamy, it kicks things up a notch. I'd order another one, to have enough for both the chicken and the fries. What was a letdown was the Texas toast. Expecting a crispy, buttery crunch upon first bite (e.g. Sizzler's cheese toast), I found a soft, limp piece of white bread. I'd, personally, substitute for another coleslaw or more fries next time.
The box combo is $8+, but I ordered it w/o a soft drink, and the bill dropped to $7+.
I did, however, try Raising Cane's unsweetened tea and found it refreshing, w/ strong flavor.
Service was good. The employees were pumping out the box combos in rapid fire, despite the masses coming in & out. Wait time was less than 10 minutes. Ample seating, it's just occupied most of the time.
Parking is at the Lakewood Center. Drive thru available, but gets quickly backed up. Beware when parking, as you may get blocked.
Final verdict - Raising Cane's is good! But, pricey! I can go to Church's Chicken and get the same amount of food for less, plus not deal with long lines and lack of parking. The sauce is what makes Raising Cane's stand out for me. I do like the food, however, and plan to come by every so often, just not on a regular basis. Of course, I'll make sure to redeem my free birthday month box combo whenever August comes around,...
Read moreI get there's always a long line in the drive thru but it moves rather quickly. However, when I was handed my bag with food, I noticed it was only one box. I ordered 2 different food items. As the cashier was collecting my change I opened it and saw it wasn't what I ordered. I handed to bag back to her letting her know that this wasn't my order and instead of taking my word for it or taking the bag back, she repeated what I had ordered! I had to interrupt her telling her know once again that it was not my order!!! Making it seem as if I'm a liar and that she didn't do anything wrong. She finally takes the bag back, opened it and sure enough she saw that it wasn't my order. I could hear them all fighting over on who dropped the ball. One manager cones out to help them sort this out. The cashier then tells me to pull up to a number stall because now I had to wait for my food. I refused. Waited about 2 minutes and finally got my food. The wait time wasn't long, what bothered me is that NO ONE was apologetic. The cashier nor the manager apologized for messing my order up. Cashier just handed me my bag and barely said have a goodnight while having the window practically closed. Very unprofessional, including...
Read moreThey are a bit expensive but I would go back. Not anytime soon though. This is my subjective opinion on Cane's. Cane's chicken tenders, to me, are similar to Carl's Jr's tenders. Cane's breading in the tenders are better though. It reminds me of Jolly Bee's chicken and to me, that's the best fried chicken. It tastes homemade. It also reminds me of a tempura batter. Their Cane's sauce is good but it is similar to McDonald's Signature sauce (yes they taste different, but that was the first thing that came to mind), their fries were good to me and it was an extra brownie point that their fries didn't have a lot of salt on them and that's without me having to ask for light salt, but they are similar to DelTaco's fries but thinner. Their Cole slaw was edible but it seem like it was missing something but I just don't know what. And last but not least, the bread that they served with it was perfect to me. Overall, they are good and I would go back, but not anytime soon. This was my first time eating here after hearing all of the rave about Cane's and I'm not disappointed but...
