Up until three years ago, we’d drive out to Layton from Magna to eat at Tony’s about 3 times a month on average, until my business interests drew me away from Utah. Now I’m back and where did I want to go (out to eat) first? Tony’s of course… but it’s not the same Tony’s I remember from a few years ago.
Before, we’d show up with a party of 2, 6, 10 or 12 and everybody would order the “all you can eat” because we just love sushi and Tony’s used to be one of the best places to enjoy ourselves and enjoy some really good sushi. Tony and the crew always made us feel like family, and we always tipped the waitresses and sushi chefs very generously.
This time though, my friend accidentally ordered more sushi than he could eat. To make matters worse; the nigari was made with twice as much rice as we were accustomed to. To make a long story a bit shorter; my friend could not finish what he ordered and as we were preparing to leave, something extraordinary happened.
The young (white kid) who was pretending to be a sushi chef (or the sushi police) confronted my friend quite rudely and accused him of stealing because he couldn’t finish what he ordered… he actually said “you’ve got your pockets full of rice!” which wasn’t true at all.
The fact is that my friends and I have spent thousands of dollars at Tony’s and other all you can eat sushi establishments, and from time to time, we’ve ordered more than we could eat. We’re happy to pay whatever the price is for our meal and additionally for anything the managers feel is “wasted” but we’ve never been subjected to such rude, unprofessional treatment by any establishment we’ve chosen to patronize.
Once upon a time, we felt like Tony’s was “our place” and we bragged it up to all our friends. We’ve treated many people to their first sushi experience at Tony’s, and most of them became repeat customers.
Sadly, now when somebody suggests we grab some sushi at Tony’s, I’m going to say “not a chance in hell… I’ll never spend another dime in that joint; they treated my friend like a common criminal and embarrassed not only us, but I’d imagine themselves as well.
We’ve never had a problem paying for what we ordered, whether we eat everything on our plates or not; what I won’t abide is the way that low-rent piece of work posing as a sushi chef treated my friend, without any provocation at all. If they wanted to charge us double, but the experience was otherwise a pleasant one, we’d have paid the bill and happily returned another day with more of our friends. Now though; they’ll not only lose our business but all of our friends...
Read moreWe moved to Layton 4 years ago & found Tony's. We've done both take out, dine-in & "all you can eat" dine-in. Several visits were fantastic & I let everyone know! Even went there with a few friends for get togethers!
Well that ALL STOPS after tonight's visit! !!
We were seated rather quickly... awesome! Greeted by our waitress nicely ... great! Ordered food & didn't wait too long since the place was virtually empty.
Most of the rolls lacked much flavor & were filled with A LOT of rice, very little fish & not enough sauce.
We have always been ppl to order 12 or so rolls so didn't think much of putting 11 rolls on our "All You Can Eat" order sheet. Our waitress took it, turned it in & shortly after brought us 7 rolls.
After finishing several (waiting for quite a while), & wondering why our last 4 hadn't been brought to us yet, our waitress finally came to check on us (remember they were basically empty) & asked if we were ok. I responded by saying yes, just waiting for our last rolls. She reacted as if I was lying, that I had gotten them! She chose to remind us about their no take home policy... uhhh yea! Then went to the sushi counter & dug through order forms to have our last rolls made. (We modified to only get 3 more)
She came back claiming they weren't made because they only allow 3 rolls per person per round .... seems a lil off since they brought us 7 rolls & they weren't even the 1st 7 on our list!
The rolls came; we hated 1 (Firecracker), didn't care for the filling on another (Winter) & completed the last one.
We stacked up our plates to go & another waitress came over to us & very rudely stated that they would be charging us for "rice waste" ... ... uhhh WHAT? I told her we wouldn't be paying because had we not had to wait for the last rolls we could have finished more of the 1st ones & the "waste" from the last ones were things we didn't like.
My husband & I were just really blown away because no one has ever said they'd charge us for leaving rice! No other restaurant & not once at Tony's!
Like I said ... we won't be returning due to these ridiculous "policies" that they've chosen to enforce now that have never been...
Read moreLast Monday we went this place with my friend and we decided to try all you can eat sushi. Everything was fine my friend done eating and got box for leftovers and I decided to eat more and ordered some more rolls. We been in different sushi places all around the world, different states and also in Utah too and most of the places charge you for box or leftover foods we already know that. But that day while I was still eating server asked me if I want box for my food and we thought that probably server going to be done with her shift and leave and we didn’t want to keep the table busy for too long and I accepted the box. Then when the check came in I just realize they charged me way more than my friend and there was a Asian lady and I kindly asked her what was the reason for it and she showed me that all the food on the table and I told her I’m still eating and I didn’t ask for the box but the waitress asked me for it and I told her in restaurant or menu we didn’t see anything about that and our server didn’t let us know before asking too. And then lady started raising her voice to me many times and told me that they told us about this rules before and I replied her many times that nobody didn’t let us know and every time she kept talking she was getting more rude. Even I told her extra 10,15 dollars doesn’t even bother me and we was going to leave good tip for this place but just because customers kindly questioning something,It doesn’t gives you a right to be rude and raise your voice to a customer. Don’t go this place,I wouldn’t even go again. Arguing with customer and yelling at them just over a question,it was a very bad experience. The food was ok but the treatment we get as a customer...
