Freshly opened and already firing on all cylinders. The Donnie Salami sandwich is a knockout, thinly sliced salami and roast turkey layered with American cheese, shredded lettuce, tomato, onion, pepperoncini peppers on a homemade crackly seeded roll that holds every juicy bite. Insanely good. The pizza is thin crust perfection blistered edges, bubbly cheese. The eggplant parm is a revelation: hand-breaded slices, fried crisp, stacked with house marinara and molten mozzarella, then baked till the top is golden and caramelized. Just like at their restaurant. Same love goes into the chicken parm pounded cutlets, lightly breaded, tender inside, smothered in that rich red Mazzeos sauce and stretchy cheese. Both are available as sandwiches or dinner-ready trays. Prepared foods shine: eggplant and chicken parm by the pound, garlicky spinach, roasted peppers, fresh pasta salads. We ordered the classic Italian and crispy chicken Caesar sandwiches, the broccoli salad, broccoli rabe, black and white cookies plus a couple cannoli and a few cookies from the market. I loved the new deli. I stopped by this week just to see what they had and pick up something for dinner. I wanted to try everything but decided on the lasagna.
