Start your review of Wu Wei Din Chinese Cuisine - Lewisville. Paul T. Irving, TX 01 5/7/2022 Really fine Taiwanese / Chinese cuisine, so enjoyable at so many levels. Service is immaculate, and food delivery out of the glass-walled kitchen speedy, with plates arriving piping, steaming hot. Won ton parcels prepared for you from scratch in record time. Incredible attention clearly given to producing authentic flavors. And yet, this restaurant is accessible in terms of price - it's not expensive, and welcomes families. Shrimp and egg-fried rice a wonderful consistency, and yes, with a large amount of egg adding to the experience. The tea is really from Taiwan. Proprietor Todd is a whirlwind - constantly checking everything is running smoothly, and yet he makes the time to greet each customer too. The staff are so attentive and polite. And of course you know this Asian restaurant is getting it right when you see that a high proportion of the customers are Chinese!!! The Xiao Long Bar soup dumplings are completely authentic, - Todd makes the sauces himself - nothing out off a bottle here! I promise you, you should go, you...
Read moreYou know that scene in "Frozen" where they're singing and the one says "we finish each other's..." and the other says "...sandwiches"? That's basically how it is with me and my wife. It usually starts out with her saying "you know what I could go for?" and me saying the random and semi-obscure thing she could go for because I was thinking the same thing.
Anywho, the "thing" was soup dumplings (Xiao Long Bao) this time, and our mutual craving led us to finally try Wu Wei Din, which had been on our list for a while now because we had heard good things about it. And we were not disappointed! They have an extensive menu of authentic Chinese/Taiwanese cuisine (if I were smarter I'd be able to tell you the specific region. I believe it comes from the tasty region of that part of the world), and for you normies out there they've also got a large, and I'm sure delicious, section of the menu labeled "American Favorites". You get you some crab rangoons and don't let anybody yuck your yum.
But I digress. First up was scallion pancake. Delicious and crispy! I found that the chili oil at the table was a great complement to it. Not your average chinese-restaurant-chili-oil. After that, we tucked into our raison-d'être, the Xiao Long Bao (we went pork). These were fantastic! We've had these at several places now and these were easily among the best we've ever had. From there we went to the pork-and-shrimp with leek steamed dumplings and let me tell you, the flavor and texture were outstanding! Different and very tasty dipping sauce with them. Next up, we got the Dan Dan Noodles with braised pork. I've had these at several places as well. Sometimes they're more on the spicy end with just a hint of peanut; sometimes they're basically peanut butter soup noodles (ew). Here at WWD they were definitely peanut-forward but not sugary sweet (yay!) and incredibly tasty. The noodles themselves were well prepared and tender. I downed the sauce after we finished the noodles and would've licked the bowl if I thought I could get away with it. Last up were the spicy pork and shrimp wontons. I was pleasantly surprised that the sauce included the numb spice in them, which if you haven't experienced it, make every effort to do so. It's addicting. These had a pleasant level of heat-- my wife is a bad Mexican who doesn't like spicy food and she could handle it just fine -- and the flavor was exquisite. The wonton texture itself was also some of the best I've had in the area.
The service was top notch. We got there around 5:30 on a Friday and while it was starting to fill up we never felt too rushed or neglected and we got our food quickly. Host and servers were super friendly in a genuine way. Atmosphere was pleasant. For the sheer amount of food we got the prices seemed pretty reasonable. We will absolutely be...
Read moreOur visit to Wu Wei Din Chinese Cuisine in Lewisville was overall a good experience. We went there for dinner, and despite a wait time of about 30 minutes, the staff was organized, and we were seated faster than anticipated. The service was quick and efficient, making the dining experience smooth.
Appetizers:
Pork Xiao Long Bao - Steamed to perfection with a flavorful burst of broth in every bite.
Pan-Fried Pork Buns - Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside; these were a highlight of the meal.
Green Onion Pancakes - Light, flaky, and perfectly seasoned, making them an excellent starter.
Entrees:
Curry Chicken Rice: Unfortunately, this dish was a disappointment. The chicken was undercooked, which was a major letdown, although the curry itself had a good flavor. Sadly, it wasn’t enough to save the dish. We wouldn’t order this again.
General Tso’s Chicken: At the risk of sounding basic, this was the best entree of the night. The flavors were far superior to what you’d get from fast food or frozen options—crispy, flavorful, and satisfying.
Braised Beef Soup: A solid choice with rich broth and tender beef, making it a comforting dish.
Drinks: The Oolong Tea was excellent and met our expectations, providing a warm, aromatic accompaniment to the meal.
Portion Sizes & Value: All dishes had generous portions, enough for 1–1.5 people, which offers great value for money.
Other constructive feedback: Some of the plates used for serving didn’t complement the dishes well, making them awkward to eat from—especially when they were filled to the brim.
Final Thoughts: Great spot for authentic flavors with some standout dishes, like the General Tso’s Chicken and appetizers. While there were a few hiccups, the efficient service, generous portions, and value for money make it...
