Abuelita's Birria & Mexican Food — Restaurant in Long Beach

One star only because I asked for cabeza and didn’t get cabeza. My sweet little grandma wanted cabeza, she hadn’t been out because of the pandemic and she had been asking me to pick up a cabeza burrito while I was out. After visiting a friends house tonight I came here, because ordering from daisy cafe before I seen abuelitas and it looked really good. Looked authentic, some in LB aren’t very authentic but it looked good. So I came here, she asked for specific instructions so on that I have to give 5 stars because she asked for everything separated, just a plain burrito, because she didn’t want the burrito soggy and wanted to build it herself in a sense. I made sure to say please and thank you cause as much as I don’t like getting a difficult order, I don’t like to give them. I asked for everything separated and that’s exactly what I received, super grateful for them having patience with the request. Everything, down to the sour cream was in separate little containers, awesome. But I got home, gave her her order, she said it’s not cabeza, it’s steak. And it’s not good. And she knows good food, she makes good food. She hasn’t been to the markets much, and I don’t shop the Mexican markets, so she’s been craving cabeza. Honestly, it would’ve been nice to just say it was out, that’s what they normally do. Had I seen it, I would’ve went back to my car and went to the other place I know has cabeza. This weird little hole in the wall restaurant made me sick. Funny how they have different names for the same type of restaurant in different locations which makes it hard to find them on the internet. The company I work for buys lunch for the office everyday, and this restaurant was listed as “House of Birria” on DoorDash. I tried to Google to find out where the one was that my company ordered food from and every time I typed in “House of Birria” the results kept directing me to one that was over 15 miles away. There’s no way that was the one my company ordered food from, so I had to do more digging online and coming to find out they ordered from “Abuelita’s Birria & Mexican Food” which is this one in Long Beach on Daisy Ave and it’s located 7 miles away from the company I work for.

I had a meat quesadilla with "asada" meat from here that gave me food poisoning. I woke up a few days ago early in the morning in a cold sweat with my heart racing, entire body extremely weak and shaking, and sick to my stomach! Didn't taste like beef at all. It could have been fried rat for all I know. Never again will I eat...

This restaurant is known for tacos, but I was craving enchiladas for awhile, so I ordered it. My delivery guy hand delivered it to me in this insulated bag to keep the food hot (which is the only thing I would give 5 stars to). The order was packed in this small black container and neatly packed in a brown bag. As soon as I sat down at my kitchen table and looked at it, it looked really small and had little rice and beans…. But i figure it might just be the right proportion. I was disappointed that it was not saucy enough, and that the meat, rice, and tortilla was super dry and flavorless. The only thing that kept it edible was the melted cheese on top. I didn’t appreciate the one half tomato and a few shredded lettuce next to the enchiladas as well.
