Had Pietrini for the first time and dined in with a few friends. We ordered the garlic breadsticks, rosemary bread with burrata, and 2 caesar salads to share. My favorite was the garlic breadsticks, pass on the caesar next time (really bland). We ordered 3 pizzas + 2 NY slices for mains — those were all fantastic. Also ordered the cheesecake, tiramisu, and hot honey gelato for dessert — all great picks. This is a place I’d normally highly recommend. However, the reason for my low score is because of the rest of how my evening went. I had also ordered 2 pizzas to take home at the same time we put in our dine in order. I advised our server of this at the time of ordering and when we were close to being ready to leave, I asked for them to give me the pies. They brought them out immediately. Weird, I thought. Confirmed the pies were cold on arrival. Not ideal but whatever because I was taking it home, anyway, right? When I got home, I immediately reheated a few slices from both pizzas and had my partner taste them (I only took 2-3 bites since I had just eaten but didn’t want him to dine alone and was excited for him to try it out). Nothing tasted off but we were up for HOURS with food poisoning. It seems like everyone else in my party who dined in was fine. Not sure what happened with my take home pizzas but I guess they had gone bad. My best guess is either the mushrooms (because…mushrooms /shrug) or maybe they made the pizzas right when I ordered (along with the rest of our dine-in food?) and it possibly just sat there for hours at room temp? Absolutely no idea what the issue was but it was a shame to end the night that way after such a great experience, otherwise. Wanted to say service was great but possibly not since they might have been the one responsible for not communicating the appropriate timing of baking the pies? (Unclear how FOH/BOH operates/communicates here) Not sure if my partner is willing to risk it again. I might but, if I do, definitely won’t be ordering any takeout until I’m about just about to leave since it seems like they don’t hold the ticket on making it to maintain proper...
Read moreI’m so sick and tired of driving 30 miles for this place and then finding out that they’re closed. They have the most ridiculous and unpredictable hours of any restaurant in Southern California. Rude and inconsiderate!! We love their pizza but we’re through with this place. (After reading the response, below, from the owner, I have mixed feelings and want to stress that the pizza is the best we’ve found in the area but the owner’s response is a bit disingenuous since it isn’t just the one time that this has happened. Pietrini’s closes early without notification. They close for employee parties and other events. It would have to be the biggest coincidence of all time that this has only happened on the days when we’ve decided to make the drive to Pietrini’s. There are plenty of hardships in life for all of us but businesses have a responsibility to the public to keep their word regarding hours that they claim to be open. This is literally the only restaurant I’ve ever known that’s been closed on 4 occasions that we’ve visited—contrary to their posted hours. I highly recommend the food and suggest that if you plan to eat at Pietrini’s, don’t count on them being open because they clearly don’t plan to change the way they’re doing business. I’d have a lot more respect for the owner’s response if they just admitted that they have family hardship and they don’t always honor their posted hours. Instead she chose to make it sound like a one-time event and imply that I have a lack of sympathy for her problems. I will not compete by listing illness and deaths in my family in the past year but I will say that gas prices are high so call before...
Read moreHusband has been working like a madman this week. He needed to take a break and get out of the house.
I thought, let's try that pizza place next to Starbucks (that we have frequented like way too many times this past 16 months) Anyway, it was around 1:50 and come to find they close at 2:30 and reopen at 5 for dinner. Anyway, I called to order take out. We got there around 2:15. And the pizza chef behind the counter asked if we've been helped. We are here for a pick up. And they got our pizzas ready to enter the oven. 3 minutes he says, it will be done. I want one of those ovens!
Our order - 2 x Napoletanas: The Salsiccia - San Marzano pomodori, fior di latte, sweet Italian fennel sausage, parmigiano, fresh basil, evoo. $16. The sausage is crazily good. love the fennel. Plus fennel has many of health benefits :)
The Funghi - Like the Salsiccia but instead of sausage, the topping is Maitake mushrooms. Love shrooms. $16 Did you know Maitake is good for your immune system?
Those are my two favorite pizza toppings. sausage and mushrooms. So, the crust is really good. I haven't had designer pizza in a while so it was a real treat. Crust is a little chewy, how I prefer. The edge was nice and puffy and perfect to dip in a little olive oil and crush red peppers and parm.
Oh, and while we were waiting, the music is heard from above and it was playing Nat King Cole. Perfect jazzy vocalist got me hankering even more for our pizzas. Thank you for your choice of music. There is nothing more satisfying than good music and good food.
Looking forward to dining in next time so we can enjoy some beers on tap or wine or...
