It was cool, it was the first time dining in this location. We were going to do a review but made it just a personal eat day. Nevertheless The sides and complimentary cornbread was the highlight unfortunately not our entre choices. We started off with the oxtail mac & cheese, egg rolls. There was no real meat inside of ours. It just looked like the mac & cheese was mixed in with little pieces I guess and it taste extremely tangy so I wasn’t sure why it tasted like that I don’t know if it was the sauce or some sort of cheese, overwhelmed it, but This was not the best to me or my man. The shell of it was good. Now the sides.. the Yams were tasty sliced up sweet potatoes, cabbage is braised and more of a vinegar flavor, red beans and rice, okra, and the Mac was really good as well, and the collard greens were all right. Now the entrées that we chose were not the best tasting for me or my partner. I had the shrimp and lemon pepper wings. And all honesty the shrimp was very translucent, even though it was fried so not enough batter, and my wings were supposedly gonna be wet, but the only wetness on the wings was actually the taste of freshly squeeze lemon on them literally so I did not finish them. My guy ordered the salmon dish that’s supposed to be stuffed however they ran out of the actual sauce, is supposed to lay in and served him the salmon alone, which just should not have happened because it just looked like a piece of salmon with some spinach mixture on top and it was very fishy like not cooked hard and he sent it back needless to say. (That’s when he was told they were out of all the other components) so it may hv been better if it looked like IG. If you like good sweet Kool-Aid with different flavor layers, then that is definitely there. It was too sweet for me or him to drink personally, but others may love that The mini cornbread were really, really good with the butter and that’s the breakdown of what we had. I also will have preferred menus that have been laminated or just a new printed sheet. Parking was cool. Found a meter around the corner and walked up. Music was a...
Read moreI drove 45 minutes to try this restaurant…I spent $60 but the food was worth it. Deliciousness all the way around…. I gave only 3 stars because I specifically ordered dressing without gravy and after getting home, I realized mine was swimming in it. I wasn’t able to eat it but my chicken, oxtails, mac & cheese, and yams, helped me to forget about it.
Editing my prior review……I would be remiss if I didn’t leave an updated review. First of all, today is my birthday….a friend asked me what I wanted for dinner and I chose to give Annie’s another try since I didn’t have to drive. He drove me to this shared location and on this visit. I walked up to the window instead of using the kiosk. The service was waaaaaaayyyyyy more personal. The owner came out from the back to greet me herself. She gifted my friend and I beverages, mine was a delectable green colored concoction and she gave him a yellow drink to match his outfit😳I ordered my usual soul food favorites, fried chicken wings, macaroni and cheese, yams, and dressing without gravy. My meal was PERFECTLY PREPARED!! When I tell you she put her foot in it……she did. Not only did she make good on her word that she would take care of me if I came back but I felt her passion for what she does come through her food. It was an amazing experience and I look forward to Annie’s getting their own space one day. I hate this location compared to Fairfax but the owner made us feel more like friends than customers. She also took the time to run off a few undesirables hanging around the storefront. I’ve read the other comments. Don’t let the venue scare you away; use the kiosk or order in person, just make sure you patronize this place. I want her to be soooo busy that she outgrows this space and is forced to get her own🤤🤤I anxiously await my next trek from Seal Beach to Hollywood…..ummmm did I happen to mention the birthday present she gave me? In a sealed brown paper bag was a peach cobbler and bread pudding for dessert. Such a special treat...
Read moreI had patronized Annie's at least on 4 occassions in 2022 up until my last visit on 02/27/2022. I really liked the food, on some occasions it was better than on others, I assume due to different hands preparing the food. On 3 occasions the yams were delicious, soft, not stringy texture, and had that sweet caramelized flavor that good yams have, on one occasion the yams didn't have that consistency of the other occasions, they were hard, stringy and somewhat dry. The explanation for my one star rating is because of the non service that was rendered on 02/27/22. I ordered online the bbq chicken combo, was notified online that my order would be ready for pickup more than an hour after I placed the order, @ 9:06 PM which is after closing. That was a flag but I brushed it off and went in to pickup my order. When I arrived, it was packed, I stood in line patiently as I witnessed the person behind me have his order taken before I was assisted. When I got to the counter I stated that I had an online takeout pickup, was told to check the table where online orders are placed, no order was up for me, so I let boss lady know, was assisted after about 15 minutes of being overlooked, then was told that my order was cancelled because they ran out of bbq chicken and that I should've been notified and she just walked away so I immediately left The order was cancelled but the payment wasn't cancelled, I recently reviewed my card statement and saw that I paid for an order that I never received. Customer service was atrocious that night. Don't know if I can patronize them again...
