My husband and I were invited to eat here with our family. What are you getting when you come here? Great Food and Novelty. You are paying a premium for the novelty, but they do a great job of making it feel like a dining experience.

Decor (3/5) The restaurant was beautifully decorated. Everything from the lighting to the doors felt like artwork. There was a lot of attention to detail paid to the decor. As we sat down the napkins were folded to look like samurai garb. The tables were lit with candles nested inside natural crystals. The big drawback here is that the place was very small. We shared a pretty small table designed for 6 people to be comfortable, but had 7 people. The 7th seat was thrown in at the end so it was constantly in the way as people were walking by. The walking spaces were very small. If you pushed your chair back to get out, you had to be careful to avoid bumping into another patron sitting at another table behind you. Because of the displays for all of the meals, realty on the table was very hard to come by. LUCKILY, they did attempt to compensate for this by clearing plates from our table very quickly. This kept the dinner table clean, and normally I would appreciate that, but the displays were such a pivotal part of the dining experience, I felt like we didn't get enough time to appreciate them before they were picked up to prepare for the next course.
Service (5/5) There was a valet service because parking in LA is a nightmare. Freddy Krueger watches movies about what it's like to find parking in LA. The valet service was $8. It was appointment only, but that also means that there was no wait for getting your seats. We were seated as soon as we walked in the door. When our water cups became empty, they were filled within a minute or two. The team was very receptive to our needs. They cleared the plates as soon as we were done and brought out the food very quickly.
Food (5/5) I got the rib-eye steak and the Diamonds are Forever alcoholic beverage. The steak was amazing. It was soft and juicy on the inside. It was chocked full of flavor on the outside, but wasn't stringy or chewy. It came out on a plate with a giant fork and a bone marrow topping. Even the sauce was served in a cow shaped bowl. The drink was served with a popsicle frozen with liquid nitrogen which gave it a very interesting smoke effect. The popsicle was also alcoholic so it made the drink stronger as it melted into the cup. The drink was served on an LED lit acrylic platform that also had a giant Diamond on it. My wife ordered the swordfish and the Sabrinatini alcoholic beverage. The swordfish was sweet. It was not dry or under cooked. The swordfish was served on a wooden mat that looked like a cutting board and a giant samurai sword, which was clever, because it was SWORD fish. It actually took me awhile to get that when we were at the restaurant. The Sabrinatini was also served with a popsicle. It had a chocolate monkey hanging from the glass which added a really nice facet to the flavor of the drink. After closer examination, even the chocolate sparkled in the light.
Price (4/5) The prices here were steep. Their appetizers are around 15 dollars each. Their drinks are around $20 each. Their entrees are around $30-60 each. A typical meal with a single shared appetizer, separate entrees, and separate drinks will run you $150 - $200 after taxes, tip and valet.
You are definitely and I mean DEFINITELY paying for the novelty, but it is worth a try for the experience. It makes for a great meal that is worthy of your instagram, facebook, and...
Read moreAs most have mentioned, this restaurant is about the OVER THE TOP experience! 5-Stars for the EXPERIENCE and to Manager STEPHANIE who was always present, engaging, and kind! She even took great pictures of our party as we left (after closing)...thank you for that! 3-Stars for quality of food and general service.
Barton G. is different and FUN! Each dish comes with a unique component and our table was crowded with the flying saucer (complete with UFO lights! for the sea bass), popcorn machine (for yummy popcorn shrimp), huge fork (for steak), wheel barrel for salad, and samurai swords for salmon. That adds a flair to the experience and makes for a lot of fun photos! The staff that brought out the food was also fun! They seemed to understand (better than our waiter) that people are there for the fun experience!
On the other side of things, The waiter that took our order felt impatient. (We spent hundred of dollars and tipped over a hundred dollars and he seemed more concerned with getting a cheap pilot pen back from us than being kind or friendly to us). I'm sure the place is CRAZY busy on weekends, but we were there on a low-key Monday night so the urgency to get our orders before we had a chance to look at the menu...and to clear our table within an hour of our arrival (not long after we got the food) felt like too much. I was (obviously) still eating as I was constantly asked if I wanted my food packed up. ("I'm still eating," was my response and I was finally left alone.)
Constructively, I also wish the food was at the same level as the price and experience. The chopped salad was the most random (and not great) salad I've ever eaten. Lettuce, tomatoes, beets...okay...but add that to green peas, carrots, potatoes, and corn and I'm lost. Haha Maybe a Greek salad theme or something more down to earth like lettuce, cucumber, avocado, beets, carrot, would be more pleasant.
Also, the popcorn shrimp was a great value as an entrée (note, you have to order at least 2 appetizers or app+main dish -- the idea seems to be $50/pp though I saw groups come just for dessert). However, the old bay seasoning seemed to only be on the actual popcorn, not the shrimp! Would have been great if the shrimp was more seasoned.
The salmon is basically an empty plate with a small piece of Salmon, the steak and sea bass seemed like good portions but all require side orders for actual vegetables. Not so well balanced for the price.
The desserts are also very expensive. We had the carnival one that was pretty shareable and fun. None of the desserts offerings were enticing to me (vegan options besides cotton candy would be awesome!) but I will admit it's fun to have as a part of the experience.
4-stars overall because we had fun, but it would be an easy 5-stars with better food and kinder, more considerate wait staff that match the energy of...
