Taking classes with Chris Youmans for the past 6 months has been amazing. As I prepare to move and begrudgingly leave this studio, I'd be doing all of Los Angeles a disservice if I didn't say, "Run, do not walk, to be led in practice by this Teacher."
It was so refreshing to have a teacher who does NOT use a fake, breathy, almost-whisper voice. Someone who doesn't spew hokey pokey "spiritual" phrases, personal opinions on current events or questionable health/wellness advice. You also won't be stuck in a pose listening to a random story about his weekend.
Chris gets it right - a true Yoga Teacher. He is friendly to all and emits the energy that everyone is welcome. He is very knowledgable and offers intuitive, helpful modifications that make every pose accessible. He explains advanced postures but does not come off like a over zealous athletic coach. Just inviting. He has great music for vinyasa and his yin classes are some of the most relaxing I've ever taken.
In 17 years of practicing all over the world, I can say for sure that Chris is one...
Read moreI’ve been coming here for a while now using classpass, and have been checking out hot yoga places all around LA. This studio is easily in my Top 3 best hot yoga studios. First off, before you even come in you have a parking lot next door, with 2 hr validation from the studio. Next, you come in the door and you’re greeted by the super friendly and helpful staff.
You then go to the lockers, where you don’t need a lock, you safely choose a code. The facilities are VERY clean. I’ve never had any issues with filling my bottle before class, there’s always a functioning cooler.
The absolute cherry of this place are the classes and instructors. They really encourage you. They really know what they’re doing and you’re immersed in the practice from entering the hot yet clean room until the end when you receive a cold lavender scented towel to top off your practice. If that’s not enough for you, you have a smoothie place across the street and trader joes. All in all...
Read moreI joined Sweat in December 2023 and loved it from my very first class.
I'm a big fan of the Flow classes with Ryan and Vera and any class that Gabby teaches, and I cherish Yin with Demi and Becky. And the monthly workshops are a nice way to try something different. The managerial and front desk staff at this studio are really kind and attentive.
The space is small in an intimate way. The bathrooms are clean and have lockers for storage. There are mats and towels for rent, and as a special bonus you receive a complimentary cold lavender face towel at the end of every class (usually placed on your mat during shavasana).
Parking can be found at meters on Santa Monica or the side streets (depends on time of day) and there is a paid lot right next to the studio for just a few dollars. And as long as there's room for it, you can bring a bike into the...
