Belles is a solid spot to get food and drinks by the beach. Drinks are yummy and it's a cute vibe inside.
(Sadly) Editing this review: I have been coming here for yeaaaars, I live within a 5 minute walk to the restaurant. In house service/food is great... But I order from here often for delivery as well, and lately they have been making HUGE mistakes for their take out orders. They have messed up my past 3 delivery orders majorly. The last time I ordered from them my tiki chop salad had gooseberries in it. Fruit!?...With all of the vegetables and tomatoes, and ranch! Fruit with ranch??? And it was missing the shitake bacon and mint. It was the most bizarre salad I've ever tried. They have sent us the salmon avocado roll on two occasions with ingredients not listed on the Postmates menu. (Asparagus) And they also don't add in the potato and chive that is listed in the ingredients as well) Luckily we complained through Postmates and got our money back. I even sent you guys a note in the rating, nicely letting you know that the ingredients given to us in the dish are not matching what is listed on your Postmates menu. And here we are about 2 weeks later, we decided to try again.. and we were missing an item completely (the main dish of my meal), and the burger and bun arrived soggy and wet, and the fries were mush (obviously because they are packed with the wet burger). NOW I go online to the regular website and see that the ingredients listed on your website don't even match the ingredients listed on Postmates. That's a huge oversight.
MANAGEMENT NEEDS TO FIX THESE DISCREPANCIES ASAP. You are confusing the customer. We don't know which ingredient list to take as fact. I have allergies, as do many others. Ingredients need to be properly listed, and kitchen staff needs to get it correct, according to the menus you provide for your customers. We won't be ordering from you guys again until this is addressed, and all menus are cohesive.
The food quality has gone way down for take out. It seems rushed, too wet for take out (separate wet items) boxes, and honestly just not as good as it used to be. What happened???? You guys used to be so on top of take out orders. We used to give huge compliments to how well you guys did by giving us take out that was packed properly, appetizing, and you never used to forget items. We order take out 6 nights a week (we don't cook clearly lol) and you were in our weekly rotation. We are so disappointed in how the kitchen quality has gone down recently. Is it a new chef? Or lost a previous amazing chef and haven't found a better one yet???? Either way, there's no way we will be ordering from you guys anytime soon. This third mess up in a row is just too much. I'm literally typing this out hungry because my entree item didn't arrive. Gotta go scrounge up something else now...
I really hope management takes this review seriously. Step 1. Talk to your kitchen staff and make sure they are paying attention to details, ingredients, and packing properly Step 2. Go fix the menu ingredient discrepancies between your Bells website, and Postmates (& other online ordering sites)
I really do love your restaurant, your front of house staff is ALWAYS amazing, but your back of house staff needs to get it together. It really made me sad to leave this honest review, as I have always been a huuuuge supporter of Bells...
Read moreThis place is a meet market with OK food and basic drinks. If you're walking along the Venice beach walkway, this is an OK place to stop if you're young and want to meet people. If you're going to eat here, you can expect basic food. We ordered a salmon avocado roll (for$19 dollars) and it was uneventful and very very basic. I've had rolls from Ralphs that were equal in freshness and flavor. We had the spicy tuna on crapy rice, I mean crispy rice. The rice was obviously reheated on an extremely hot electric plate. It was so hot it gently burned my mouth. The poke bowl was my first choice, but they only serve that at lunch, so beware at what time you go here to get that. I ordered the teriyaki burger as suggested by my waiter and the burger was burned along the edge and so hot it started melting my basic bun. It was a double burger with two slices of cheese, yet I was amazed at how the chared edges really took away the flavor of meat leaving only that burned flavor we all have had at a bad backyard BBQ. My wife had the chicken and it was served on a chipped plate. All their plates are made of earthenware and are fragile. A surprising choice from a youthful meet up bar with tons of loud people and loud music that are not paying attention to the fragile nature of earthenware dishes. The chicken was dry and that really brought down the enjoyment. Fortunately, the sauce they serve it with had some moisture that helped the overall dish. But I feel we could have made better chicken at home. We had a Pina collada that came from a slushy machine. It was frozen and extremely cold forcing us to put it aside for several minutes before it could be consumed (she still got a brain freeze) but it was well balanced and had alcohol in it, so that was nice. My bill came to $110 dollars and I tipped him 22 bucks because I felt bad for our waiter who seemed clueless on suggestions to eat or or skill with a tray.
The atmosphere here is actually really nice. The chairs and tables leave enough space so you don't feel cramped and the seats are comfortable. The decor is inviting and there are big couch/ table set ups that allow for big groups if 8 to sit together and hang out. It's Very Loud in this place so be prepared to shout a few times, but it's really laid out nicely. The one really good thing here for you men is the guy to girl ratio I noticed had to be 3 girls to every 1 guy. And the women are very attractive that went there that night. If I were looking to find a girl, you'd would be a good place to be.
The wait staff was not very attentive but did the job. I wasn't impressed with the staff and the bathrooms were that of a dive bar and very smelly. I suggest peeing in the ocean over using their bathrooms.
I won't return and I won't be missing anything. But if you want to get a beer and a bag burger and try to pick up singles, you'll have fun in your restaurant right under the Venice lights and right next to the beach.
P.S., parking was 15 dollars across the street for 1 hour and 25 dollars...
Read moreBelles Beach House is a tough one to rate because it’s such a mixed bag. On the one hand, the atmosphere is fantastic. It’s got this breezy, tropical vibe that makes you feel like you’ve been whisked away to a beachside lounge somewhere in Hawaii. The decor is fun, the lighting is just right, and the whole space feels lively and laid-back in that quintessential Venice Beach way. If you’re coming here for drinks, a good time, and a cool aesthetic, it’s absolutely the place to be.
Unfortunately, the food—specifically, the yellowtail sashimi—was a serious letdown. Let me explain. When I saw yellowtail sashimi on the menu, I was excited. Yellowtail is usually buttery, fresh, and delicate—everything you want in high-quality sashimi. But what I was served was the exact opposite. I don’t know what happened in the kitchen, but the yellowtail tasted like… ham. Yes, ham. I don’t say that lightly, and I genuinely wish I were exaggerating, but the flavor was so off that I had to stop after just one bite. It was salty, overly fishy in a way fresh fish should never be, and had this odd, processed taste that completely ruined the experience. I kept thinking, “How do you make yellowtail taste like this?” It was easily one of the worst things I’ve eaten in a long time, and for a place with sushi and sashimi on the menu, that’s a big problem.
To be fair, not everything on the menu was a disaster. Some of the other small plates we tried were decent—nothing mind-blowing, but definitely passable. The drinks were solid, too. I had a cocktail that was well-made and refreshing, and the bartenders seemed to know what they were doing. Service was also friendly and attentive, even though the place was pretty busy when we went.
So here’s the bottom line: if you’re looking for a fun, trendy spot to grab a drink, hang out with friends, and soak up some great vibes, Belles Beach House has you covered. The ambiance alone makes it worth checking out at least once. But if you’re coming here expecting high-quality sushi or sashimi, you might want to reconsider—or at the very least, steer clear of the yellowtail. I can’t speak for the rest of the sushi options, but after that experience, I wasn’t exactly eager to try more.
I really wanted to love this place, and it’s frustrating because it has so much potential. With an atmosphere this great, Belles Beach House could easily be a five-star spot if they tightened up the kitchen and improved the quality of their ingredients. As it stands, though, it’s more style than substance.
Overall, I’m giving Belles Beach House 3 stars. The vibe is great, the drinks are solid, and it’s a fun spot to hang out—but that yellowtail sashimi?...
