In September, I took a solo trip to L.A. for my 30th birthday. My first meal was Pizza Girl, and I am so thankful it was. It set the tone for the wonderful, week-long trip and was truly the best pizza I have ever had.
I had one slice of the Bella Bianco, which I’m only able to identify two months later while writing this review because the picture I took of my slice actually looks like the picture on their website. This is so rare for a restaurant and is a testament to Pizza Girl’s quality.
Pizza Girl is connected to Hotel Irwin, located between Venice Beach and Pacific Avenue. On the corner off Pacific is the outdoor, walk-up window where you order. The young woman who helped me was very warm and welcoming. I opted to take the pizza back to my hotel, but they have a detached area with indoor seating.
The slices are sizable, and prices are super reasonable. I was actually shocked by how inexpensive it was—especially after tasting the pizza.
I’ve always thought pizza was incredibly overrated. I’ve been fortunate enough to travel a bit and have had pizza in Italy as well as NYC, all of which were good but nothing to write home (or Google) about. There’s one spot I regularly go to when visiting Atlanta but will otherwise opt for a Paul Newman frozen pie. However, I haven’t shut up about my one slice from Pizza Girl since returning home to Charleston, SC.
I’m already planning a return trip for the spring and am very excited to share this perfect slice of pizza with my mother. Though I know my own attempts are going to fall short, I’ve put the Pizza Girl Starter Kit on my Christmas list to tide me over in...
Read moreI just cannot in good faith recommend this place. I live in Venice, and there are a lot of these types of places now — Instagram branded marketing weapons with cute names. I even read the story about how the owner is some like pizza nepo baby LA socialite, it’s cool it’s cool. But my thing is at the end of the day, the food should at least be good. Pizza Girl charges $18 for a 12 inch pie that is honestly the same quality your mom who doesn’t know how to cook can make at home. It’s just ridiculously overpriced, you’re literally just paying for the pink box.
My recommendation to people visiting Venice would have to be to go to Pizza Local Venice across the street. It’s NOT good pizza either LOL, but at the least they do interesting toppings and bring out local musicians in Venice many nights a week. It keeps Venice weird instead of this venture capital branded nonsense that gets eaten up by 99 cent pies from any random corner...
Read moreBest pizza in Venice!! Joey, the brother of the owner, was great and knowledgeable about everything from their organic ingredients, the restaurant history, the way they prepare everything, etc. The crust was phenomenal, the toppings were so delicious, the conversations were great. I ordered a 12 inch pepperoni pizza and it came out so quickly (5-10 minutes). The location is also at a perfect spot near the beach and the bars. This is the perfect spot to go to after a night out, 10/10 would recommend to anyone looking for a good...
