Our kids took us here for Father's Day brunch. The Goat and the Girl, a hidden gem nestled in the vibrant Art District of Downtown LA. From the moment I stepped inside, I was greeted with great vibes and an inviting atmosphere that set the stage for a memorable dining experience. Our father's day brunch it exceeded my expectations in more ways than one.
The menu at The Goat and the Girl showcases a unique fusion of Asian and Western cuisines, resulting in a tantalizing blend of flavors that truly surprised and delighted my taste buds. My party and I decided to indulge in a variety of dishes, and we were not disappointed.
To start, we ordered the pork belly chap chae, a Korean-inspired dish with a twist. The delicate balance of tender pork belly and perfectly cooked glass noodles was an absolute delight. The flavors were harmonious, and the portion size, although small, was enough to satisfy our appetites.
Next up was the shrimp fried rice omelet, a creative combination of two classic dishes. The omelet was flawlessly executed, with a fluffy texture and a generous filling of succulent shrimp and fragrant fried rice. It was a standout dish that exemplified the restaurant's ability to blend diverse culinary traditions seamlessly.
The potato crepe was another standout creation, showcasing the skillful fusion of flavors. The crispy yet tender potato crepe was layered with an array of savory toppings, creating a delightful symphony of tastes. It was a small but mighty dish that left a lasting impression.
Lastly, we tried the brunch potato, which was a comforting and satisfying option. The perfectly roasted potatoes were accompanied by a medley of herbs and spices, elevating the simple vegetable into a culinary masterpiece. It was the ideal dish to round off our meal.
One thing worth noting is that the portion sizes at The Goat and the Girl are on the smaller side, but what they lack in quantity, they more than make up for in quality and flavor. Each dish was thoughtfully crafted, demonstrating a meticulous attention to detail from the kitchen.
It's important to mention that this restaurant's popularity is no secret. During my visit, I noticed a considerable number of people waiting in line, a testament to its reputation for delivering exceptional food. However, I believe the wait is well worth it, as the experience and flavors offered by The Goat and the Girl are truly unique.
Overall, my dining experience at The Goat and the Girl in the Art District of Downtown LA was nothing short of exceptional. The restaurant exudes a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and the fusion cuisine it offers is a true delight for adventurous palates. If you're looking for a dining experience that pushes boundaries and introduces you to an innovative blend of Asian and Western flavors, I highly recommend giving The Goat and the...
Read moreMy oh my... Girl & The Goat... This place left a big mark on my heart, seriously! That's how amazing this place is.
I just want to start off with saying that this is not your usual restaurant with your typical menu so heads up to all the picky eaters! From drinks, to appetizers, to main plates and desserts - GIRL & THE GOAT NAILED EVERYTHING!
We reserved a table for 3 through OpenTable on Wednesday night to celebrate my sister's birthday. I keep telling my sister and my friend how excited I was to try this restaurant out because I have heard so much good reviews about it from friends and on social media posts as well. And let me break down below what we ordered that night. Since it was a birthday dinner, we went all out.
DRINKS: Lonely Hearts Club (peloton mezcal, strawberry, sumac, egg white, peychauds) Takin' Care of Bee's Knees (beefeater gin, honey, galangal, dandelion root) Farmer's Market Margarita (el jimador reposado tequila, watermelon, sichuan peppercorn, moroccan lime salt)
APPETIZERS: Chickpea Fritters - BIRTHDAY COMPLIMENTARY (goat yogurt, herb chutney, tamarind, sev crunch) Sauteed Bay Scallops (brown butter nuoc charm, strawberry dandelion greens, crispy potatoes) Roasted Oysters (clam baguette, sausage butter, oyster sauce mayo, finger limes)
MAINS: Confit Goat Belly (brown butter herb yogurt, summer squash, smoked tomato, sourdough gremolata) Sticky Glazed Pork Shank (shiitake, butternut squash, hoisin mayo, hot mustard, naan, lettuce cups) Grilled Skirt Steak (sichuan peanut sauce, pickled cucumbers, fresno chiles)
DESSERTS: Seasame Cookies & Cream Scoop - BIRTHDAY COMPLIMENTARY (sesame caramel, chocolate crunchies) Popcorn Situation (cheesy butter cake, caramel popcorn, strawberry jam, popcorn ice cream) Gimme S'more Grapes (hazelnut-choco stracciatella ice cream, graham cracker crunch, toasted meringue, sugared grapes, champagne gastrique)
If could rate everything that we ate, no more second thoughts because everything was a 10/10. From taste, to texture, to food presentation - I'm telling you, everything was well thought of and cooked to flavorful perfection! As much as I want to elaborate every dish one by one, I feel like I will run out of all positive adjectives to use. Trust me, it really is that good.
Please also note that this restaurant, IMO, is a good place for fancy date nights, birthday celebrations, after payday drinks and dinner. I don't think that there's a strict dress code here (I COULD BE WRONG THOUGH) but it would be nice to come here presentable...
Read moreWe celebrated our 32nd anniversary during our recent staycation in DTLA. Of all the great restaurants to choose from, we loved the hype & vibe which Girl & the Goat had been receiving on Google & Yelp, and quickly made reservations. We couldn’t have been more impressed with the food, service, ambiance we experienced. We were waited on by Freddie, and he was the BEST! He made us feel like we were VIP’s despite probably having 7+ other tables he was also responsible for. Freddie brought us champagne to kick off our night, then after taking our order, he spaced out all our dishes so we never felt overloaded with food nor rushed to eat, and all our food remained both fresh & hot. His food recommendations were also spot on! This restaurant is busy and can get loud but thankfully, we were seated in a corner section which wasn’t as noisy as it would’ve been had we been in the center of their dining room or near their bar. All dishes ordered were off the chart delicious, but the stars of the show for us were the Goat Curry, Roasted Beet Salad, and Sautéed Green Beans! You HAVE to order their Naan & Dips and especially their Sautéed Green Beans!!! They’re so good! You’ll be talking about them after you’ve long left the restaurant. Freddie wasn’t the only outstanding member we wanted to compliment; Yari, one of their managers came to greet us on our special day as well. She made sure we were enjoying our dinner, and stopped by a few times to check in with us, gave us her card since we want to return to do their Saturday brunch one day. Yari & Freddie seemed like they truly love being there, not just because it’s their job or something they’re naturally good at it. We were so full, we probably brought the same if not more food back to our hotel as we ate in the restaurant. Oh, and when each dish was brought out, we loved how the person bringing it explained in detail which sauces were what, or a particular dish is best eaten this way, so that we could best experience the dish the way the chef desired it to be eaten. We couldn’t have selected a better restaurant to celebrate our special day. If you’re looking to dine somewhere in the Arts District, or even in LA’s downtown area, we can’t recommend Girl & the Goat enough! You won’t be...
