My partner and I decided to stop by Urth caffee earlier this afternoon. We hadn't had breakfast so we were starving . We ended up ordering a egg breakfast sandwich, banana walnut waffle, pot roast sandwich and two black coffees. Granted when we got there we noticed it was full seeing it was noon so we knew we would have to wait for our food. We waited and kept waiting. I mentioned to my partner that this was taking way too long and he said that's how it is generally so I kept waiting. Finally the wait was just way too long so I asked him to go ask about our food. At this point it had been 1 hour and 15 minutes since we placed our order. An assistant manager by the name of Marisela said that they had accidental given our food to another table. When I heard this I decided to go and speak with her to express my disappointment as we waited for so long , we were starving and still had to wait. Of course when I approached her I didn't have thr nicest demeanor however I wasn't disrespectful in anyway. I proceeded to tell her that I was very distasfied with the service and wanted to know what she was going to do to rectify the situation and make us happy. I advised her that I would most likely leave a review and she didn't like that. She got very defensive and argumentative with me. Instead of apologizing for the long wait and terror on their part she made me feel and treated me like if had been me who did something wrong. Marisela then asked me if I wanted to speak with the general manager. Of course I said yes. He came over to me and in the same tone and manner I explained to him wear happened and also showed him the time stamp on my receipt. He handled the situation the way it should have been handled immediately. He did rectify the situation, apologized and comped our food. Thank you for doing that. Marisela needs some training from management and the owners. If she's going to be dealing with escalated situations she's definitely not trained to do so.
We finally ended up getting our food. The best thing we ate was the banana walnut waffle. The egg sandwich and pot roast sandwich tasted sub par. Ambiance was nice.
Marisela you need...
Read moreI don't usually leave very many reviews but today Urth Cafe did something they never do and thats leave a sour taste in my mouth.
I come to the downtown LA location maybe two or three times a week and spend a minimum of $100 each time. But I suppose they don't value regular customers very much.
I always order to go, I always tip well and I never complain- until today.
I have an obsession for their Divine Date smoothie, which everyone should try..... it's the only thing that will have me coming back to this location. I like it so much that I'm probably going to overlook what they did to me today.
I'm not sure if you've noticed, but the online page to order from the downtown LA location does not have an option to order their smoothies. So right after I placed my online order I called to go at the restaurant and placed a phone order for the Divine Date Smoothie . I knew I was running a bit late so I confirmed with whoever took my order that my smoothie would be there and they aired me it would.
I told them I was running behind and I actually arrived at 10 and my drink was no where to be found.
The manager comes, I show her that the smoothies don't come up on the website. If it had then I would've paid for it with everything else. (Their reasoning for not making my drink was that they throw everything left over that hasn't been paid for away at 10 and the registers were closed)
I expected something... ANYTHING that would show me some inkling of respect or recognition as a frequent, well spending customer who also tips well. I'M A FRIGGIN UNICORN!
I never do this but I was pretty annoyed so I asked if she could make my drink anyway and just said no.
Normally in customer service SOMETHING is done. She could've comped my drink or offered me a free one the next time I order.
But no. Just a look of disdain while she denied me any compensation for their...
Read moreMost expensive breakfast ever. I spent $38 just for a subpar breakfast burrito, an ice tea, and pumpkin pie. I would forgive the pumpkin pie because it was large enough for 2 people to share. But the breakfast burrito was so tasteless. They didn't even provide real salsa. Instead, I got some ketchup that was "fancied" up by placing it in those little white bowl. The tea which was used to be good was just okay. Now, let's get to the service. For any restaurants that would have the audacity to immediately ask for tip before you even sit down and get your food, you better have one of the best service ever. This is not a typical sit down restaurant where you sit down and someone will come and get your order. You wait in line first, order, pay for your food, they give you a number to put on your table, and find your table. Simple enough and efficient. But the cash register once paid, start at 20% and up. I couldn't find the option for other. I am a generous tipper, but the service wasn't special, and it's mostly self-service there until someone brings your food at the table. I had a leftover pumpkin pie. I forced myself to eat the entire burrito because it was hella expensive. I asked one of the server for a box. He said, "Give me a second," but never came back. I had to go to the cashier and ask for one, where she pointed to me that there are some avaliable near the tea station. The server could have just told me that. Also, it wasn't that busy. It wasn't a Dennys where the waitress will take your order first and chit chat with you. It's my first time eating breakfast there. I would probably go back, maybe for lunch as a healthier option, but we will see. I don't want to be harsh but I think mid score is...
